    Elvis was never racist. He grew up poor in Tupelo, TN and attended a black church with his parents. He was a very spiritual man and recorded many gospel albums. There’s a story from the 60s when Elvis was to perform and was told that his backup singers (who were all women of color) couldn’t go inside - he said “if they can’t go in, neither can I”. He got his way! He was a true gentleman and a talent that will never be equaled. I’m glad you are getting to know his greatness!! Whoever says he was racist, never knew a thing about him and are seriously making it up.

    Elvis loved everyone. He didn't give a dam as long as you were a good person...that's all he cared about. He knew there is good, bad, and pure evil in ALL walks of life, and if you were a good, decent, law abiding person, he couldn't care less what color you skin was or where you cam from or how much or little money you had. He is know for sharing what he had with total strangers...he bought car, homes, horses, payed medical bills, paid of debts for people who needed the help. He did it in secrecy too. Sometimes people found out about it, usually not. Most of that was found out by the recipient after he passed away. He once almost went broke buying cars and homes for people

    The Great Jackie Wilson and Elvis were good friends. When Jackie has a stroke while on stage and went into a coma. His manager and team abandoned him. Family was not doing well enough to put him in a top assisted living home in hopes he comes out of his coma and maybe get back to living. Elvis was informed of the situation and this was back in 1974-75. Elvis has Jackie removed from the shit hole he was in and put him into a top rehab center. Elvis made sure that everyday there were fresh flowers and snack available for anyone who came and visit. Elvis paid for the care up until his death in 1977. What a man ! What a dear friend he was to all that came into his life. James Brown was the first celebrity at Elvis funeral. He requested alone time with Elvis and he cried over Elvis’s body.

      Elvis and Muhammad Ali were good friends. The last time Elvis appeared on a small stage it was at a bar because Muhammad dared him to go in and do it. One of Elvis's closest friends, a platonic friendship, was one of his backing singers, Myrna Smith. She was one of three people invited to his birthday party in 1975.

    I can give you the answer to that question, Elvis did watch Martin Luther Kings funeral on TV. And wanted to go. But he was not allowed to go due to being on a movie set. Witnesses said he stood in his trailer and sung Amazing Grace. During Elvis's life Elvis wrote over 25 checks out to Martin Luther King and paved the way for the Civil Rights.

    Elvis was very humble, he grew up so poor and lived next to the black section Shake Rag, His Mom picked cotton, his Dad went to Parchment Prison for altering a check so he could feed his family. Elvis played with the black kids, attended black churches and didn’t care what others thought. He was known by all the black artists when he moved to Memphis as a teenager, BB King and others said he would be at the back door bcuz he was too young to get in. The Sweet Inspirations have all said that he loved them and they loved him, Elvis favorite singer was Roy Hamilton and when he passed away Elvis sent flowers to his wife for over a year, his son was interviewed and said Elvis was truly distraught when he died. I’m glad more people are listening to him, Jailhouse Rock is cool, he dancing so good in the movie version, I also like the 68 Comeback version too, that black leather suit, man was he gorgeous.... Fun one is Stranger in my own hometown BUT the X-Rated one, it shows that he was human and swore but also even during this his voice is amazing....

    Elvis didn't see color. He was born into poverty. Despite this it has been said that throughout his life he was kind, respectful and generous. As a child growing in the 1930's and 40's there is a story of him sharing an ice-cream cone with a black child on a hot summer day. People did not do that back then. As a teen he would sneak out of his mother's church and into the neighboring black church because their music was the most beautiful he had ever heard. A black man taught him how to play the guitar. Yes, Elvis sang covers of his favorite songs which happened to be sung by black singers. Elvis didn't steal their music - he helped promote it. While planning for a huge Texas concert he was told to leave his black girls (his back up singers, The Sweet Inspirations - led by Whitney Houston's mother) at home. He said - if they don't sing I won't sing. And there are countless stories of him performing random acts of kindness to strangers of various races throughout his life. The world was extremely racist back then and Elvis helped close the gap. "If I Can Dream" should be re-released with proceeds being donated to the cause. It is a timeless song and new generations should hear his message. Please share Elvis' beautiful music. Elvis forever our King!

He was the oppositite of a racist, he was a kind person to all. Watch some videos about his cook Mary who was black and how she cherished him as he did her which he even bought her a house as he did many people and how he credited many black singers for helping him build his style and they credit him for opening the doors for their careers to grow majorly.When elvis 1st got famous with his voice on the radio many thought he was black. A GREAT MAN WHO GAVE TO ALL EVEN STARTING EVEN AT A YOUNG AGE. VERY GENEROUS AND RESPECTFUL TO ALL UNTIL HIS DEATH.

    This was a tribute to MLK. The show wanted him to end his show with his song Blue Christmas but he said no he wanted to tribute to MLK. Elvis is by far the least racist person ever. He loved everyone and gave away 200-300 cars mostly Cadillacs and he gave them to black people and white people. Mostly even all strangers. He didn’t like being called the King Of Rock. Ok I would like you to react to Elvis Jailhouse Rock. He was 22 years old and he did the choreography himself. Love from JOEY from NYC

    • @honeysucklerose134
      @honeysucklerose134 3 роки тому +3

      Definitely should do Jailhouse Rock but not quite right that he did his own choreography.. According to his friend, George Klein, when Elvis was shown the original choreography he said “man I’m no Gene Kelly I can’t dance like that” so the choreographer watched the way Elvis moved and changed the routine so it was natural for Elvis to perform. Strange how the racist rumour still persists to this day when there is nothing further from the truth. Elvis had his faults, the same as every human being, and was no angel but racist he wasn’t. Talking about “Angel” he has a beautiful ballad of the same name which is definitely worth a reaction.

    All my life and I’m now 48 I never heard this rumour about Elvis being a racist until the last few years. Now I don’t know where it came from but what I do know is that a documentary came out in the last few years and there was this rapper on there who spoke very harshly about Elvis and he said Elvis didn’t support the civil rights movement’s of the time by standing side by side with black protesters - his opinion therefore was that Elvis was a racist. I couldn’t believe this. Elvis as you know grew up in a black community at a time of segregation and yet broke the segregation rules by running from their white peoples church to the black gospel church. His good friend was black as a kid. He respected, liked and was influenced by many black singers of his era and you can see many photos of Elvis standing proudly with them. They themselves have commented what a beautiful man he was including Mohammed Ali. He bought cars for black people who were strangers to him, his backing singers were black and he refused to perform unless they were included and given the same treatment, another black singer who joined his backing singers said of Elvis..he just made me feel so comfortable right away and gave me a TCB necklace alongside everyone else to make a statement to say “you’re in the family”. His cook was black at Graceland in the 70s and he bought her a house! He paid for medical bills of Jackie Wilson and other black artists that he knew when they were ill. The list goes on.. so where does this show at all that he was racist?? If he didn’t join the protests it’s because he was strictly told by his tyrant of a manager Tom Parker not to get involved in politics or interviews and Elvis did as he was told, certainly through the 50s and 60s. Elvis loved everyone... he was love and whilst human and affected by the results of his fame he only wanted to make people happy. It’s a crying shame that a person/persons who don’t have love in their hearts can be so nasty and vindictive. Thanks Jay (sorry, it turned into a monologue) ✌️❤️

      I don't believe Elvis was racist. He did, however, insult the Sweet Inspirations , Kathy Westmorleland (another back up singer) and a few others when he said they smelled like catfish during a concert. This was later in his life when his personality was so affected by drugs. The backup singers didn't take it as a racist remark, but knew it was meant to be insulting and were getting tired of how the drugs were affecting him, so they walked off the stage during the concert. Again - I don't think he was racist, but I do think the drugs took a toll on his personality toward the end. As far as standing up for civil rights, Elvis came out of an era when many of the older (over 40) entertainers felt strongly that their job was to entertain and that they should keep their politics out of their public life. He even said as much in interviews, although when asked if he thought all entertainers should share his view he replied "No". I would guess Colonel Parker had a lot to do with Elvis not taking a public stance on political matters.

I think if every individual that reveres and adores Elvis made it their mission to help make His dream come true it would work. We don't all have to love each other necessarily, as long as we each love Elvis & vow to honor his wish. He certainly deserves it and righteously commands it. Hey Baby Girl. I'm so glad you are sharing this song, especially Elvis' music. It's heart breaking reading comments about how racist Elvis was supposed to be. It's like I told you before, he grew up going to black churches and would refuse to do concerts when promotors told him that he couldn't bring his back up singers and musicians. People that think he was a racist need to hear his music and take a look at how diverse everyone in his group was. I do have one correction, everything he did and all he stood for wasn't a job for him, it was his passion. I, for one and proud to say that I too have the same dream. I grew up in a trailer park and because of that I was called white trash when nothing could have been further from the truth. My Papa taught me to be respectful of everyone. He was a share cropper that worked in the tobacco fields all day and then went to his job in the cotton mill when he was done on the farm every day and worked 8 more hours. My Mama and Daddy also worked in the cotton mills and no matter how hard they worked we were always broke. The only things that got us through were Jesus and our love for each other. I was raised to have self respect and to be respectful of everyone. Please react to In The Ghetto with your beautiful friend. You two are perfect together. You can tell how much she loves you Sweetheart by the way she acted when you started to cry. Please listen to Jailhouse Rock and Suspicious minds. Do the studio version of suspicious minds though because he was having a lot of fun with it in the live version. In the studio version you can really hear just how much his backup singers (Sweet Inspirations) sounded like angels. I'm a Ruby too girl. My birthday is July 14th. Ugh, that made me realize I'm going to be 53 this coming Tuesday. Mercy, I'm gettin old 😆. By the way, my real name is Davina. My niece put my nickname when she set everything up for me. I told her I oughtta spank her but for that, lol. Keep the reactions coming. I watch you every day since I discovered you. Love you precious!

It is sad that this song is over 50 years old and there is still the racism and judgments of different types of people. Unfortunately I don’t think that I will ever know a time when prejudices don’t exist. But it’s messages like the one in this song that helps move us one step closer to that dream. During the taping of this television special the summer of 1968 Elvis and the director/producers were having a meeting in an office and in that office was a small T.V. In the corner and on that T.V. Robert Kennedy was assassinated. He witnessed racism first hand as nearly all his friends and his parents friends were black from the ghetto, like him. So when he saw racism in action it tormented him. That is why when you hear him sing this song, he poured everything into it, leaving nothing behind.
    You can see every sinew straining, his voice starts to crack and where is the choreography? It's out the window. Instead Elvis right hand becomes a a gnarled claw on the end of his arm, twisted in frustration and pain, thrashing around like a wrecking ball. Breathtaking stuff.
