    Your guitar sounds "warmer", "livelier" and more "traditional" to my ears, so great job on the mod! You should do a comparison between a PRS with standard humbuckers and the 513 so we can hear the difference, cheers!

    I have always loved the 513 and just recently acquired one. Definitely hope to hear more from you about this in the future, Thanks

    That modification sounds really good! I actually kind of have a similar complaint with a guitar that I love, and it has pickups that are good, but higher inductance than usual for the bridge, and especially the neck. Any chance you could go through with a "how-to" video on how to make this circuit, and how to fine tune it for personal taste if needed?

      @Adam_Stenzel hey, thanks for the comment! I might do such a thing in the future, however it could get a bit complicated and there's a lot of fine tuning to personal taste, plus for every guitar the implementation would be different physically, so I have to think it through...

    Interesting work 👍 If you include a bypass switch around the buffer you have a PRS 526 😂 I wonder how a short 3 meters high quality cable affects this phenomenon and run that into a buffered tuner pedal on stage... John Mayer used an active circuit on his Super Eagle maybe for the same reason ?

    • @slightlytechnical103
      @slightlytechnical103  25 днів тому

      @bobdelair02 initially I wanted to demo the same guitar with a bypass switch, but the push pull was crap, so I just took my friends 513.
      Even if you run 3m of high end cable into a buffer the problem is the same. Is a bit better, but still unsatisfactory imo.
      Regarding yhe John Mayer, I remember that guitar, used to have some buffer type circuit, but the pickups were very different. I think those pickups didn't really have this "issue" , so the buffer was like a flavour type thing.

      @@slightlytechnical103 I tried a 509 and wasn't impressed by its tone either... I don't get these high efficiency PU's not really... modern amps don't need a high input signal and a boost pedal works just fine in case you want to push the front end of the amp.. I prefer a good balanced and high dynamic PU.
      Anyway, I think you improved the sound a lot.
      I suspect that this way they built these pickups makes them more microphonic too and require heavy potting, which doesn't improve the tone either. I may be wrong. I'm not an expert on this topic.

      @slightlytechnical103  25 днів тому +1

      @bobdelair02 yeah, I had problems with my 513 when it comes to microphonics, had to not only pot them well but alsd stuff the space between the pickup and the wood with foam to calm them down. Since this is by no means a "vintage" sound, I'd say potting and other treatment is fine.
      Yeah the 509 is the same thing, I just think they were trying to accomplish something new, and the selling point were all the pickup combinations. Of course the guitar itself is imo a m a z i n g has an amazing neck and ergonomics, but the tone was shit. Now I like it very much, it has a place in the palette

    I am interested in the specifics for this mod too. Please. Thank you 🙏🏼 I MUST DO THIS. Sounds amazing

      Can I just send my guitar to you and have this done? Haha where are you located?

      @toddcontino7271 glad you like it, I'm in Serbia, so I think shipping is a bit problematic unless you're in Europe. I'd gladly do it. If there is enough interest I might design the whole thing to be easily installable and compatible with PCB versions and offer it.
      Cheers!

      @@slightlytechnical103oh no! I’m USA. I just added you on Instagram I’ll write you more on there. If there’s any way to get that installable piece I’d be happy to help fund the project by maybe purchasing the prototype haha I’m very interested!

    Good job, I too prefer the modded sound. Could you shed some light on the difference between this activate circuit and an EQ? Thanks.

    • @slightlytechnical103
      @slightlytechnical103  Місяць тому +2

      Thanks for the comment! An EQ circuit is more complex and offers far more capabilities in regard to frequency manipulation, but this circuit is much simpler and the general idea for the circuit is to fix the issues of rapid tone degradation due to cable capacitance because of the high inductance of the pickups. This is done through a buffer circuit, although buffer circuits in all their simplicity have a different tone, plus having a classic buffer circuit would essentially make the circuit too bright and glassy, and make the guitar sound weird. So the whole idea is a buffer design that yields a tone that is similar to what a more "standard" passive pickup would offer. I tested a few circuits and tailored them by ear and selected what I thought sounds the best for me. So there is no manipulation of midrange frequencies whatsoever.

    Very interested in this mod. I have a 2010 Swamp Ash 513. Great guitar in every way, but was never happy with the pickups especially the Neck and double especially the neck in single coil. Could never get that Strat/Hendrix pure single coil neck tone. Do you have documentation of mod?

    • @slightlytechnical103
      @slightlytechnical103  12 днів тому +2

      Hey, someone also asked me about it... the problem is that it's quite a bit complex for implementing, without some major treatment to the guitar, so if there is enough interest, I might just engineer a clean solution for implementing and release it.

      Ah I get it. I am a retired EE and major tinkerer. The thing I would be interested in is the PCB layout. I do have to admit that I’m not 100% sure I would tear into my PRS because as you say it is potentially invasive.
      With that said I would still be interested to know. If you do get the time I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks!

    My hair was like yours, not now. 🤣🤣🤣
    So I Will planning to do a capilar transplant at clinic Capilar Brasil Florianópolis or with Dr. Wilker Juliani at Rio de janeiro, cause both do the high density bulb.
    Next year If everything going right, my hair Will be like your again. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    Congratulations my friend, you dont need to do CT, for now. Hehehe.
