As soon as he was asked the first question, all he had to do was say, "I don't want to answer any questions. Am I free to go?" If they already had enough evidence to charge him, they would charge him, and he should stay silent until he speaks to his lawyer. If they don't have enough evidence to charge him, then he's free to leave and should do so. Staying and talking to the police can only change the fact that you're free to leave, so you should never do it without your lawyer present.

I was arrested and taken to jail when I was 18 just for knowing someone that was into sketchy behavior (burglary). It was a very valuable experience for me. The charges were dropped (on me) but I never lost the memory of that sensation of the sobering jolt of reality.

If a kid does what he think is cool cause his favorite rapper talks about it, there's a much bigger problem. Why don't kids in the suburbs do what they see in rap videos? Why is it mostly kids that are from low income areas?
The problem is there's not enough male role models at home to look up to. There's also not enough outlets and places where kids can just be kids.
If rap disappeared tomorrow, would that really make a difference? Maybe it'd put a small dent in it, I'll give you that, but give those kids a father who's actually a father and he's present, then you'd see real change, not just a small bandaid.

I'm just an average older American citizen. As I'm watching this interview I started thinking how on earth a young man can find himself in this position. I'm aware of young punks, but it is just so foreign to me and I had a problem childhood, alcoholic parents, but went to college and worked since I was 15 yrs old. No criminal record. I was arrested and taken to jail when I was 18 just for knowing someone that was into sketchy behavior (burglary). It was a very valuable experience for me. The charges were dropped (on me) but I never lost the memory of that sensation of the sobering jolt of reality.
