    Mr. Hasudungan,
    I commented a while back in one of your newest videos about how I didn’t like the fact that now you weren’t doing hand drawings. Now, in this 2012 video I see how much effort and quality you have put into your videos. It really touched me to see how you colored that entire big arrow with those thin markers. I haven’t checked out if you have released new videos but regardless of the method, I am grateful for your channel and I really thank you for the time you devote to making these videos.

    Hey,
    Possibly there is some controversy with this, but what I know, and the sources I use state that pendrin is a IODIDE transporter, and therefore Iodide has to be in the colloid for conversion. It states that "On the lumenal side of the apical membrane Iodide is oxidized"
    Werner & Ingbar's The Thyroid: A Fundamental and Clinical Text.

    • @PricePlow
      @PricePlow 6 років тому

      Can you explain what happens when too much fluoride / fluorine gets involved here? Seems like it'd potentially react over iodide at least some of the time

    • @bencherian
      @bencherian Рік тому +2

      There are TWO iodine transporter
      1. Sodium Iodide Symporter- seen in "basolateral membrane" of follicular cells which helps entry of iodine from circulation into follicular cells
      2. Iodide - Chloride exchanger called Pendrin - Seen in "Apical Surface" of thyroid follicular cells helping iodide into colloid
      Oxidising happens in "Apical Membrane" of thyroid follicular cells
      Basically what you said is correct

    Very cool, but a few comments.
    TRH receptor is coupled to a Gq protein in the tyrotroph cell, and TSH receptor is coupled to a Gs protein in the follicular cell membrane.
    Another detail is that the negative feedback acts directly and indirectly: by directly inhibiting the production of TSH by the tyrotroph and indirectly diminishing the production of TRH receptors on the surface of tyrotroph cells.
    Last, but not least, when the iodine attaches to de 5,3‘,5‘ carbons or 3,3‘,5‘ carbons, it is called “reverseT3“ (rT3) and has no biologic activity, T3 has only biologic activity if the iodine is in the 3 and 5 carbons (regardless if it is attached to 3‘ or 5‘ carbon).
    Very useful video, congrats.

    • @MysticMD
      @MysticMD 9 років тому +3

      TRH is the hormone released by the hypothalamus, and TSH is the hormone released by the anterior pituitary gland, in the thyrotropic cells

    Amazing! My daughter was born without a Thyroid! No doctor/Endocrinologist has ever tried to go into any real details about her condition. Only that we have to do blood work often and regulate her medication through the TSH Blood work/Lab test but I am learning that there is more to it than just T3 and Synthetic Drugs. I feel overwhelmed but I am trying to learn more about all of this and to give my daughter the best life that we can make for her to feel better. Thank you so much!

    • @btingang
      @btingang 9 років тому +3

      Deviprasad Boggupalli true... we can only state it as lipophilic hormones which are able to cross the plasma membrane and cause an action within the cell.

    • @buildabridget
      @buildabridget 9 років тому +1

      +btingang That is true, but it seems like they don't even cross the plasma membrane, but instead require a transporter despite being lipophilic: press.endocrine.org/doi/abs/10.1210/edrv.22.4.0435

    At the end of the video, I think it would help if you zoomed out so we can see the entire picture once you finish.. These drawings and diagrams are amazing and SUPER helpful! Obviously this is an old video but that is my only suggestion!

    Wow, Armando you are brilliant! Thank you so much for this video, you did a wonderful job explaining the process. I honestly feel like your technique of explaining and sketching was easier to understand than some upscale 3D video (which is totally what I was looking for ha-ha). I love the simplistic Sharpie colors, your exquisite hand writing; and love that you've managed to combine science with art - in my world, most science minded individuals can't draw.

    Hi Ma'm. I was also born without a thyroid and it's quite a difficult thing to get information about it because we are placed under the category of Hypothyroidism. Their a lot of symptoms of hypothyroidism that has no sign on me. I am almost 20 now and my life has been almost completely normal with the exception of the monthly blood test and the correct medication regulations. I am happy to say the tests lessen as you get older. I sincerely hope that your child is doing well. :)

    There is a mistake, T3 and T4 aren't lipid hormones, there are aminoacid (tyrosine) derivatives.
