My wife and I for years have each adopted a Sheldrick elephant. What a beautiful experience to receive updates every month. My daughter had volunteered there and said the staff was so wonderful and loved their elephants. This has been one of the most rewarding and beautiful experiences ever. 🐘
Fun to see and learn about such an interesting experience, and especially all the tips and hints that would help ensure a visit goes as well as possible.
Wonderful video. As a foster parent to 2 sheldrick wildlife trust baby ellies, thank you, for getting the word out, about this amazing organization!!! I am also excited for when the foster parent visitation starts up again!!!
Correction -- they are not being fed human baby formula, but rather a milk that was created by the Trust many years ago. It has everything they need and they love it.
Yes it was Dame Daphne Sheldrik that had actually created this formula for the orphan elephants and that was after quite some time to get the formula spot on.x
It is based on human baby formula that Dame Daphne modified with various nutrients & supplements that are needed by the baby elephants. The Trust has said that the base formula has changed & is not as good as it used to be. It's a shame that a baby formula company can't do special elephant batches pro-bono or at cost a few times a year to help out the ele orphanages around the world. It would be amazing marketing material.
Thank you for this informative video! I have followed the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for many years on Instagram and sponsor two elephants from the beginning. ONE DAY, I want to go and visit this wonderful rehabilitation program!!
Indeed...a Wonderful video! I only wish I had seen it a few years ago. I've dreamt of such a visit for years, wishing to meet my three adopted 'babies'. Everyone connected to the priceless Sheldrick Foundation is a hero in my book! and a HUGE THANK YOU for this vodeo!
Thank you! I am so glad you enjoyed the video. That is incredible you adopted 3 of these little guys. They are so special! I hope you get the chance to meet them one day.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. You have captured many of the orphans whom I recognize from watching SWT's videos and monthly project update. I hope to visit the Nairobi orphanage nursery and the three reintegration units including Kakuka in the near future. Again, thank you.
Im hopeing very much to meet my two adoptions..Rocka and Kamili in the nr future and Im proud to be a foster parent and supporting such an exceptional wildlife trust!!
Great video! We are hoping to book the private interaction. I don't see it mentioned on their website. Do you have a reference point we can look at to book?
Hi! Are you looking for a packing list specifically for Nairobi? Or safari in Kenya in general? I do have a safari packing list that might be helpful: www.have-clothes-will-travel.com/ultimate-safari-packing-list-for-women-men/ If not, I'm happy to answer other questions about luggage/packing for Nairobi. I had a week in Nairobi and left a large suitcase with dirty clothes in it at the airport while I was on safari.
Note: the orphans are fed a non-dairy formula (vegetable based only as cow’s milk causes gastric distress). The initial formula was developed by Dame Daphne Sheldrake through a trial and error basis.
Our private tour was about 1 hour long. The only video/photos I have are in this video when I am explaining/comparing the different tours (any of the footage where we are close to the elephants with no crowds is from the private visit)
You’re going to have the best time!! And I believe they just want you to wear closed toe shoes. I would say to wear something that you also don’t mind if they get muddy.

Hi, you will have to send them an email and see what they have for availability. There is a contact form on their website: www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/about/global-offices
Also, could explain the private visit again please? $1,000 for 10 people - so $100 each? Would do it but wonder how you get to be part of a group if ten. Thank you
Yes, it would be $100 for each person if you have a group of 10. The group of 10 you would have to organize yourself, though. (Sheldricks wouldn't do this for you.) Whether it's a group you are traveling with or maybe putting it in a travel forum to see if another group would want to split the cost.
Hello I have adopted two elephants before my next visit but I would like to know how to have the right to a private visit at 5pm? Because nothing is explained on the site. Is it necessary to reserve somewhere? Thank you
It's like any large city - be aware of your surroundings, don't walk alone at night, and understand which areas you should and shouldn't go to. This is a more in-depth read about how to stay safe in Nairobi: www.worldnomads.com/travel-safety/africa/kenya/travel-tips-to-stay-safe-in-nairobi
The shelters for the care takers and baby elephants would suit a Fujian tolou design building these are ancient Chinese buildings the central court yard and ability to keep the baby's protected and learn to bond rely on one another building stronger elephants the care takers can live above the stall which is each elephants quarters by way of ladder/stairs this would also benefit there lives as well. I became addicted to their Instagrams and then, as we should, became a grateful supporter.

It baby formula sma mixed with coconut
Yes that's correct..the main ingredient is coconutpalm extract..baby elephant's digestive system cannot endure cow's milk

Thank you so much :)
Hello, loved your video, could you provide more information on how to book private visit and recommendations on where to stay?
We were wondering if you had any tips/suggestions re: type of suitcase, what to pack, where to put cash and how much. Thanks if you have time.

How long is the private tour? Do you have a video of it?

I would gladly pay $100. But how would I find the other nine people to organize the 10 person visit?
We have a private visit scheduled. Your video makes me more excited than ever! Are there rules as to the type of footwear? Thank you!

Do we have to pay the nairobi national park fee as well to visit this orphanage?
My husband and I would love to do the private visit. Would it be just us having to pay the 1000?
You pay as a group 10 people 100 dollars
How did you go about booking the to $1000 private tour? I am trying to find it on their website and am not having any luck.

Hi, I love the channel, could you please tell me if that private interaction you did was the $50 group of 20 or was it the group of 10 for $1000 ?
Thank you so much! The private option I showed was the 10 for $1,000. When I visited the $50 group was not an option.
Also, could explain the private visit again please? $1,000 for 10 people - so $100 each? Would do it but wonder how you get to be part of a group if ten. Thank you
