In the BBC Radio 4 adaptation by Jeremy Front of Simon Brett's comic murder mystery, Bill Nighy stars as the character Charles Paris. Charles is portrayed as a struggling actor with a penchant for alcohol and a knack for getting involved in mysteries. While working on a corporate video as a fork lift operator, a murder occurs using the forklift, and Charles becomes a suspect. Determined to clear his name, he steps into the role of an amateur detective to find the real murderer. Amidst this, he also faces personal issues, such as domestic challenges while staying on a friend's houseboat after causing damage to his ex-wife’s house. The blend of mystery and Charles' fraught personal life brings a humorous yet suspenseful edge to the drama, with performances from Suzanne Burden, Tim McInnery, and Jon Glover enhancing the storytelling.
Thanks for posting. Excellent story and great performance, as usual. Nighy improves a great story so much, and brings out all the humour with the slightest inflections. As do other performers. I do prefer the lighter touch of the radio play over the original novels. which are a little grittier. The radio plays wouldnt exist without the novels for which I'm deeply grateful. I hope the author profits.
"Is that rap with a 'w' as in an avocado wrap, or rap as in music?" Charles: "W - as in whisky!" (Hiding his whisky). Such quick lines - you have to listen hard, or you miss these great lines. 😂🎉
Time for my annual Charles Paris pilgrimage.
2nd time I've heard thus. Even better the 2nd time
Love these radio shows and Bill Nighy is amazing, along with the rest of the cast.
This one was particularly enjoyable, thanks
Brilliantly written and brilliantly played by Bill and cast.
You need to rethink commercials…
He needs to sack his useless agent!
'It is not lust it's nausea' 😂
