He has been looking at restoring the back back to bone stock because the originality of the bike is beautiful. We very much enjoy getting out on the bike and it has maybe about 30k original miles on it.

What a good memory...I started working at a Honda/Yamaha dealer in '86....assembling bikes, then mechanic, etc. Still do occasionally if they need help. These bikes were around, I worked on them. Never liked them much then. The sohc 750's all seemed sort of slow, and when detuned and coupled to the weird manual shift auto, it seemed like a heavy, complex scooter. In fact, an Elite 250 or Helix may have felt like less of a slug at low speeds, especially if the 750 was left in "D", which is simply the higher of the two gears. That really doesn't matter now, it is a cool old bit of Honda history.
Hi Kaplan, I got the same bike (made in 77 sold as a 78) but mine has comstar rims and is in kilometers on Speedo.. working on park brake switch etc today...I'll contact you about it soon and send pics as well..great video bud.
My god that is perfect. I have the blue model im 3rd owner doesn't run quite as well as yours but it runs well. I bought it in 1988. It was in a field in the mountains outside of Denver. I have original registration. I had to replace the stator . I can't figure out how to wire a new horn. Old horn is gone.
Esta genial tu mota hondamatic tengo una igual pero es año 1978 y tengo un problema con el encendido se patina un engrane que está atrás del generador te agradecería cualquier consejo respeto a esa falla gracias
This looks exactly like the bike I bought in 1977. It was my first motorcycle, I loved that bike! It rode like a dream. I had 2 more payments on it when some dumb bitch pulled out in front of me while I was doing 45 miles per hour. Totally wrecked it and it broke the frame of the car too. I went over the car and only had road rash and a hairline fracture of my shin bone. It is a sweet bike!
It's not that rare - however, a single rider with low miles with good cosmetics - it's worth what you're asking. I'm looking for one in this condition - but either in Canada or close to the Canadian border.
Nice bike! Someone is selling one near me but I’m a beginner. You think it’s too powerful/ heavy for a new rider? I’ve heard that it’s a suitable bike to grow into but I’ve also heard that it’s too powerful. The main draw for me is that its an automatic; What do you think?
Hello Everyone. I have a question about these bikes. How reliable are the transmissions? I have a chance of getting a 1978 Honda CB 750 Hondamatic with only 12,000 miles on it.
RANDY, DID THAT ONE SELL. I'M LOOKING TO PURCHASE ONE, SHOULD HAVE TO BEGINE WITH. I BOUGHT MY SON A NEW 2016 KAWASAKI EX300 NINJA IN MY AREA FROM ROADSIDE MOTORSPORTS, ESSEX VERMONT. THIS WAS A GRADUATION PRESENT FOR HIM. HE HAD A LITTLE MINI BIKE, AND SNOWMACHINE WHEN HE WAS IN GRADED SCHOOL TO KEEP HIM OUT OF TROUBLE. THIS IS THE HANGUP, MY SON IS LEFT HANDED. THROTTLE AND SHIFTING FEELS AKWARD FOR HIM. I HAVE A 78 CB400A THATS IN GOOD SHAPE AROUND 12,000 MILES I THOUGHT OF MAKING INTO A BOBBER FOR HIM. BUT NOW THIS CB750A HAS GOT ME THINKING ABOUT ONE LIKE THIS YOU HAVE AND BUY A SECOND SEAT AND SHAVE IT DOWN TO LOWER IT SO HE CAN HAVE GOOD CONTROL. IF YOU COME ACROSS ANOTHER CB750A, WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO WORK WITH ME AS A TRADE WITH THE NINJA 300? THE NINJA HAS LITTLE OVER 100 MILES. I'VE RODE IT MYSELF AROUND TOWN JUST TO GET SOME SEAT TIME ON IT. COLOR IS RED. OR IF YOU COME ACROSS A BOBBER 750 AUTOMATIC I WOULD GO THAT ROUTE TOO. I'VE SEEN A PICTURE ONLINE OF A BOBBER DONE UP WITH ONE OF CYCLE X FRAME, HAD A COLE TANK, HAD CONVENTIONAL FRONT FORK SETUP, AND IT JUST HAS THIS UNIQUE LOOK TO IT, LIKE SOMETHINK OUT OF THE 50'S ERA. 802 479 9812 STEVE.
I have the same bike bone stock same color but sometimes it spits gas out the carbs and the floats work fine? Also it will idle really high sometimes. Seems like the colts are high because it's blown the main fuse twice?
I know, 3 yrs. late 😎🤓 blah blah ,whatever. @Garrett Bauman. You need to synchronize the carbs. There’s definitely a learning curve to do it right. Research beforehand is your friend. IMO any bike that’s inline 4 with carb issues, 99% ish of the time , correct sync fixes ‘em right up. I self taught myself how to do it on a ‘76 kz900, damn I miss that bike! (Self taught is NOT recommended) Blown fuses…idk 🤷🏼♂️
It's going to be a pile of s*** for $600 it's going to need a ridiculous amount of work LOL I'm sure they told you it just needs a car clean good luck with it probably should have a mechanic check it out first

The CB750A isn't slow at all IMO, it's got tons of torque for blasting the freeway at over 100mph just fine. The weight really comes from the high, thick stock seat and 5 gallon (!) tank... and that Vetter fairing your dad had definitely added more! The 400A on the other hand won't break 78... super fun and nimble, though! All three Hondamatics are a great time. :)
