In 1976, it was selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and in 1995, together with Gokayama (Toyama Prefecture), Shirakawago and Gokayama The gassho-zukuri village has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (cultural heritage). In recent years, its name recognition has increased due to its registration as a World Heritage Site, and many tourists from Japan and abroad visit every year due to the improvement of the transportation network. It is a place like "Japan's hometown" where you can deeply feel the rural culture, life and lifestyle that is the original landscape of Japan.
