I just watched your White Plains Rd video. It brought back many great memories of my childhood; WPR was my neighborhood in the 50's and 60's. Thanks a lot PS: I was surprised at the very light traffic under the el.
this is june 20 2017 and all of the street light have led streetlight head fixtures and there are some sodium streetlight head fixtures still on some of the streetlight and the 2007 new model taper angle streetlight head fixtures are still on the streetlights and they were not all changed yet until 2018 2019 2020 2021 and 2022.
The 3rd Avenue Elevated trains the 8 trains GunHill road 149th Street 3rd The old Redbirds. Is missing now Even though we have the R142s on the 2/5 trains The only thing now that we all miss is the old 3rd avenue Elevated 8 trains
@@leecornwell1062 Yes. That line should have never been torn down. Would have been very valuable today! But of course, things were very different back in 73, including the city's attitude towards transit.
@@ACLTony Don't you worry. I have a spiritual feeling that they are going to put the 8 3rd Avenue elevated line I'm telling you why do you think that. They putting the second Avenue line back up Right now they are focusing on the second Avenue line which is at 96 Street which will be extended to 125 Street the Q/ T trains it could help out the 4/5/6 trains metro North. You know that the metro North is going to Penn station and is going to have four stations Huntspoint parkchester co op city east Tremont Bronx it will be helping the Amtrak trains
What they tair down is what they have to put back what they should of did is to take care of the track ties and the trestle s and painted those trestle s like you see every other elevated lines today they are starting to paint the trestles in Green
One of the old president they had a long time ago could not stand the Elevated subway lines he was so stupid of tairing down the 3rd Avenue Elevated trains
Thanks for the video!! The Bronx Forever! Lived 2 blocks from WPR at 228th. Great memories, great people. Miss it. Age 80, on farmland in Virginia, but the memories are many!!!
I used to take the 36 bus to Randall Ave. I would get on thus bus on White Plains Rd. to get to my school....Herbert H. Lehman High School. Boricua! Para lo ques sepa!
Lived here in the 50's and 60's. Brings back memory's. When my brother passed away in 2003 suddenly found our way back here to remember where we came from.
When I lived in the Bronx, it was called White Plains Avenue. We used to go for pizza at D'Amore's after watching a double feature at the Laconia theater. I always remember the thundering el and seeing old trolley tracks that were no longer used.
Fantastic video. It brought back a lot of memories. My grandparents used to own an Italian restaurant near, I think, 231st St. in the 1960s. I only wish I was able to read the street signs. Was that the intersection with Gun Hill Road at around the 9:00 minute mark?

So cool seeing the good o'l #2 line. Even though it was above ground, most of us in the area still called it the Subway. Miss the Red Birds.

hayesman76 thats Gun Hill Rd, I recognize the light posts and 2 station.
Very clear, thank you. Just confused, which area of WPR is this?
S Grimaldi North to South. Starting in the northeast bx
Video starts on the Mt. Vernon/Bronx border and ends right before Birchall ave, so he’s traveling south.
