I had a debate with a Leftist UA-camr about this topic. He argued the side of “T-women are women, gender and sex are not the same, you are a woman if you identify as one, and being a woman is about the roles/expectations you fulfill and not your biology” etc.
I argued the opposite side of this and presented him with the following thought experiment:
For the sake of argument, let’s initially function under the premise that they are correct, sex and gender ARE seperate.
“Male and Female” are terms that refer to biological sex, and “Man and Woman” are terms that refer to gender.
Now let’s layout 3 possible ways that it can be determined what makes someone a Man or Woman.
The 3 possibilities we will look at are:
• Biology
• Self-Identification
• Roles/Expectations
So now let's say that I, a biological male, in my every day life were to have long hair, put on make-up, wear dresses and high heels, work as a Nanny, and I'm a homemaker in my relationship. I am as non-masculine as possible, and I fulfill these roles and expectations so well that I am typically perceived as a woman by others. But in spite of ALL of that I still call myself, and tell others that I AM A MAN.
Now we FINALLY have something everyone agrees on. I call myself a man, and both sides of this topic agree that I am a man.
The Conservative side agrees I'm a man because I am a biological male.
Leftists agree I am a man because that is what I identify as. (The UA-camr agreed I would be a man)
So now what we can determine is that "Roles/Expectations" are NOT what makes you a man or woman. If they were, how would it be possible for me to be considered a man while fulfilling none of the gender roles/expectations of a man in appearance or lifestyle? How can a woman still be considered a woman when she fulfills none of the roles/expectations of a woman in appearance or lifestyle? If this was truly the determining factor, this should not be possible.
So let's cross "Roles/Expectations" off of our possible determinates.
In regards to Self-Identification, it should be intuitively obvious that someone's words do not determine reality; I can say I am anything, but that doesn't make it true. I can say I am a refrigerator, but I am clearly not a refrigerator. When I SAY I am a man, even IF it is true, it is not the thing that determines WHY it is true.
So let's cross off "Self-Identification" from our possible determinates.
All I am left with now is to believe that my Biology IS what makes me a man. It makes perfect sense, the anatomical make-up that is my physical being determines the objective reality of WHAT I am. It should be clear now why these arguments to the contrary are absurd.
And so with that I believe I have succinctly shown why Biology is what determines your sex/gender, and why the 2 terms are in fact the same thing.
After I made this point the UA-camr refused to engage with it, and shortly after stopped responding 😂
i don’t believe in self-id. i believe that you are essentially what other people say you are. so you have to maintain that roles and expectations are a factor. You can call yourself a man all you want but if you’re living as a woman, you’re essentially a woman.

Its still just someones words or thoughts, which have no inherent bearing on reality, the only difference is it's other peoples instead of your own. Even if that was the case, you still have to contend with the fact that not everyone would agree on what they see you as. If you are a T-woman who people know to be (T) or can easily tell that you are, then there are people who will see you as a man.
If other peoples perception of you is what determines what you are, this would not only include people who see you as a woman, it would also include those who dont. If that’s what we’re left with it seems really messy and unhelpful to determine what you are based on other peoples opinions, because those will conflict. I dont see how that would be more proper to determine WHAT you are than your actual physical being would be.
This way of thinking in essence views "woman" as an adjective, when it is very clearly a noun based on its usage in language. This is why you would say "She is a woman" and not "She is very woman".... A "Woman" is a THING, not a descriptor.
It’s remarkable how women seem built to focus on the secondary characteristics of things. It’s all behavior, vibes, and aesthetics, not actual ontology.

That person is not the live with parent fulltime so in the event of the divorce break up its the live with parent who shoulders all the responsibility of raising the child and are often precluded from earning an income because of that fact. The other party has the ability to earn a fulltime income without day to day care of the child. Its the childs needs first.

If race and gender are social constructs, then every single other thing about a person also is a social construct. Now if everything is a social construct, then what is the science of genetics even studying?
Race and gender both have biological basis but how they are expressed and interpreted is socially constructed. Race is genotype- what shade of skin you have, what other ethnic features you have (hair texture, eye shape, etc). However, two people with similar genetic lineage (coming from the same country) could look VERY different (one looks white, one looks black for example.) despite having the same ethnic background. Look at Sophia Richie vs someone like Obama, one looks clearly more black and is going to be treated different due to that fact. And for gender, there is a biological basis (reproductive organs, secondary sex characteristics) but the way that someone looks, dresses, their interests, is socially constructed. Me wearing a dress is not biological, but it makes me look like a woman!

I was clarifying that I agreed with your comment but you can’t deny that there is a social aspect of race and gender (otherwise racial and gender roles would look the same throughout history and throughout the world). So what I’m talking about is making a differentiation between the social aspect and the biological aspect. And I never made any claim in the video that said that I don’t believe in biology. I just also believe in the social construct that is tied to race and gender, which we have to differentiate if we want to dissect things like gender roles.

This whole checking chromosomes and genitalia thing is outrageous. Yes, you're right, I don't pull your pants down or give you a DNA test when I meet you and 9.9+ times out of 10, no one needs to. But if you are going to ask what a man or a woman is, the definition is biological so you are also going to get a rigid biological set of criteria that is not reliant on you checking on it 24/7 to be legitimate.
Ultimately, being a man or a woman is not about outward appearance because anyone can put on a costume or get cosmetic surgery. Fooling someone is not the same thing as being legitimate.

Gender roles as a social construct, in most part, have developed from the biological aspect of men and woman. Eg. Men are genetically built to hunt, fight and generally provide those are the core gender roles we have today as those have evolved over time. Woman's roles have evolved from their instinctual biological strength of nurturing, raising children and social interactions that evolved into the home keeper, child raiser and educator etc. Trying to make an argument that gender roles are meaningless goes against biology, evolution of cultures and society. That can never be meaningless. And the concept of the strongest survive which has gotten humanity to this point have gotten here because these acknowledgements of gender work. History has proven that trying to change the construct will fail.

Yes, gender roles are of course influenced by the culture and society, but the fact that diverse civilizations and societies across the globe, most without any contact with the others, developed for the most part substantially identical fundamental gender roles seem to indicate pretty strongly that there, in fact, these roles that have been greatly shaped by evolutionary biology. There is something in these roles that, regardless of environment, makes a society and culture more fit to survive.

I can hardly care less what anyone is saying about this. Each person is entitled to consider themselves whatever gender they want. The issue comes of course as to whether or not society will agree with them. That is where this issue can lead to potential heated arguments and then possible violence. I will say this much though. If a transwoman is dating a man with a penis then she should be upfront that she is a transwoman. There should not be any "surprises" when he goes to take her to his place or a hotel, etc. Or she invites him to her place, etc. Transparency is key. If the man does not want to date the transwoman then the transwoman should respect that and move on.
