There's nothing like woodhound eye candy to begin one's day!
Does an excellent job on the Rounds Dan. They are all even and yes they are uniform in size. You can use the Smaller Pieces for your roadside bag sales. Keep up your Great Videos my Buddy. Stay Safe and enjoy the Moderate Weather we are having. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY
People think I’m nuts to have a hobby like this. Yet, the same people always ask…..”Got any firewood left?”. 🤦🏼♂️
My wife, neighbors, friends all think I’m crazy but until you do you just don’t get it
"I rather be crazy with alot of firewood, than sane with no firewood" - 😅
You're a lucky man being able to play with all the tools to find which one works the best for you! Keep on splittin' till the next best comes along!!😅
That works great! I also like how the wood doesn't get jammed it the wedge after the split. Looks like the table after the wedge is a little lower. Terry
Great video on the versatility of the box wedge. I went with the standard six way and tall 4 way for now. I might have a change of heart and upgraded to one of the box wedges once I get the splitter and run if for a while.
Hi Dan, another good video, with sensible content. You certainly have the perfect combination of wood splitters! Also, a Super Split,’ for re splitting, would be perfect addition to your stable of splitters! Len (Devon🇬🇧)
L1.. cool, good job friend
I’m running a standard 7 way & it looks like I run it about the same height you do , pretty much as low as poss without it disengaging the cylinder that lifts it. But my pieces look larger than yours. Maybe it’s just an optical thing on the video . But yes the box wedges are a huge manual labor saver .
That 37 d is a monster
There hasn't been alot of box wedge footage up lately. I want a12-22 with the 5 way box wedge. I like my wood the same way you do. Im gonna have one. I believe in the buy once cry once. I traded welding work for my first splitter then built my second one for under 1k with a box store splitter as a base
I think the triangle pieces would dry better when stacked because of the gaps it creates in the stack. Unfortunately they take up more square footage with less wood in the stack. Awesome video man. Keep em coming 🍻
Nice splts Dan. I try to make the same style of splits with my 4 way wedge..
The 'fat slabs' are where it's at...just like the bottomed girls...hahahaha
Very impressive
I would only call that a 4 or the other a 6 way, because that's how many pieces it makes. The oddball is just separating them from the unsplit part
Yeah it can be a bit confusing, and I first thought the same...lol...but the top half being 'split' off from the bottom is a 'piece' as well.
Is there a poly bushing on the frame where the hydronic ram goes back and forth? Or do you need to apply grease on that? Something to watch for wear and weakness? If there was a crack in that metal and that sucker broke holy crap. Great content, brings me back to when I was a kid and we used to sling firewood. One other dumb question, does wood “ season” standing? We would girdle trees in the woods a few years in advance then fell them less branch trimming cuz they are dead and break when they hit the ground.
The frame needs to be greased, there are brass 'slides' between ram and frame. As far as standing dead trees, they will season depending on the size diameter....the larger, chances are not fully.
its the return speed thats makes the huge difference. my wolfe ridge pro 28 c is like a box store turd in return speed by comparison.
Yeah that is one thing with the 37D is that it returns quick...like scary 'make sure you're all clear' quick! lol
I was wondering if you have found anything that beast can't split.
Bill
Not yet, but when running the box wedge I don't try forcing knots and snarly stuff though it.
I see a splitter that takes 3 + passes , that a Star splitter could do in one pass
hi there i dont understand can you re due this video, best to all john
I'm not sure I remember what I said, if you can explain it to me I'll try to re-do the video....lol
you need sound effects for hobbyist here too.
Hahaha....I thought about putting it in.
morning
I was just wondering why it's called a 5 way do you count the top piece as a split also, also how many pieces do you get with a pizza wedge, I don't have a pizza oven but do you know if the pieces have to be short to fit in, I'm trying to figure out what way I want to go to upgrade to a new splitter, I sell bulk, bags, and smoker wood, maybe into pizza oven wood too, I have had calls for that too, it's just me by myself, lm just looking to make things a little bit easier and quicker, thanks
Yep the top half is considered the '5th' of the splits/wedges. The pizza wedge is just like the 7 way box wedge with just a smaller gap between the wedges. You can still adjust the height for 'larger' splits but you do need fairly straight grain and decent wood to push through it.
Ok educate me. Why is it a 5 way when your only get 4 chunks??
No offense just curious
It’s because they include the horizontal blade as one. For the longest, I used to think the same. It had me confused too.
@@amandadavis9726 well the horizontal makes 4 blades. There is only 3 vertical blades and the horizontal if you want to include it to give you 4 chunks.
Left to right you have first outside chunk a vertical blade first inside chunk 2nd vertical blade 2nd inside chunk 3rd vertical blade 2nd outside and last chunk.. topped off with the horizontal blade
A standard 4 way for example you get 4 chunks of wood and only 2 blades that are interlocked and welded or 1 main blade and 2 welded on wings.
See that's why I'm confused and asking lol.
No offense of course.
No offense at all. Something to consider,…is that they are just counting the total number of pieces per split pass. It makes more sense to me that it would be the number of splits that come out of the other side.
No worries....at 1st I thought the same, but the top half that gets split when the round pushes through is considered the '5th' split of the 5 way. So 4 splits come off the bottom and then what remains on top and gets pulled back is the 5th split. Granted on smaller diameter wood where only 2 splits come off the bottom and the 1 on top would make it more of a 3 way I guess.
Please don't laugh at me, but... how a 5 way makes 4 pieces of firewood? )
No worries....at 1st I thought the same, but the top half that gets split when the round pushes through is considered the '5th' split of the 5 way. So 4 splits come off the bottom and then the top half.
@@Back40Firewood Thanks, it sort of came to me later after I asked a question. But, i don't count that top piece because it is not intended as the final product anyway. In my mind, what comes out from the bottom should be called as is - 4 way, or better yet, let's call it a "4-piece box" It will eliminate the confusion. However, I'm just a couch firewood maker ))) giving a suggestion to a real pro. I like your vids, keep them coming.
Dan that's a 4 way not a 5 way. LOL!!
I thought that too at 1st, but the top horizontal wedge is the 5th one. 4 splits across the bottom and then the 1 across the top makes it 5 way. 👍
@@Back40Firewood I wonder if you were counting that one as the fifth.
So my box store splitter lol is a one way splitter till the last split then it’s a 2 way splitter lol.
Good Morning Dan, yep I agree, That 5 way is perfect Just like Joe’s Japa, I would love to see a box wedge on the Halverson units, 🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
