just picked up half a dozen chick's on a whim bc I've always loved interacting with our local ducks, turns out they're all appleyards! the breeder is just a rescue owner who decided to put some eggs in the incubator this year, I feel so fortunate to have them & they're absolutely beautiful creatures, friendlier than any foul or livestock bird I've ever had, if anyone is confused on a breed to choose, the appleyard is a preferred high contender 😁

Love your flock! I have a pair of miniature Silver Appleyard ducks and their smaller size is so much fun! They live with my Serama chickens and everyone gets along great. You were kind enough to answer a question about watering trees with duck water a year or so ago, and I have a question about hatch duck eggs if you can give me some guidance. We are in the process of moving from Idaho to southern Oregon. I was at our new place for several days recently and returned to discovery our hen had sitting on a nest of 7 developing eggs. After candling, I figure they are around a week or so in development -- lots of good veining, but not very dark shading. My dilemma is that hatch day will fall after we need to be fully moved out... by about 3-4 days if my guess is correct. Do you think these developing eggs could survive under mama for an 8 hour car ride in a week or so? I'd really have to scramble to find someone to keep them until hatch day... Thanks!
That's so late in the incubation period, would worry about the jostling. Can you possibly leave them with a friend or neighbor? Otherwise, I think I would take them away from her and let her try again when you're settled in your new place.
