Thank you Anthony Tommasini and The New York Times for the full page feature story on Lou Harrison on Sunday August 20, 2017' through which I learned about this incredibly talented composer. My wife happens to be part Javanese, so Harrison's music is all the more thrilling.
Hi Wellesz, Check this out. I was just lying here thinking to myself what modern CA composer was it whose name had escaped me for at least 7-10 years (!!), the guy, associated with Mills, wrote a lot for Western and Asian ensembles together, who was gay, who lived down in Aptos, whose piano I had for a long time before it burned up in a fire, etc. etc.?? Well I opened up my YT and right there on my front page of "recommended for you" was this "Mix-Lou Harrison: double concerto"... Etc etc uploaded of course by Yourself. How Cool is that? I keep running into stuff that you've put up; I guess that's how it came to me but nonetheless, I LOVE synchronicity like that. I spoke with Lou many times years ago. Although I didn't go to Mills, I may as well have, considering the amount of time (and $) I spent there at the Concert Hall (Oh, the music that those walls have heard..). I have Many friends who went through that place. I guess I first came to that place through my association
(con't.). Through my association with Chris Brown, who, before taking over the Helm there at Mills had been a piano tuner/technician, like myself. So we had a professional friendship. Anyway, I really just wanted to say hi. Alan Werner, tuner/tech at UC Berkeley.
Awesome. . . Has that deliteful other worldly enchanting quality of curious discovery. . . What a pleasant find. . . Blessings. . .
Everything this man touches turns to gold. Thank you, Lou Harrison.

the first movement is my favorite
Absolutely magic music!
I. Grandly, but moderate 0:00
II. Stampede 8:13
III. Allegro moderato 15:51
thank you
What beautiful music and what a pity that this music is not played more by orchestras in the US
Kenneth Ehrlich the masses always will be behind
I guess there isn't much demand or repertoire for Gamelan orchestras these days.
Maybe because they don't have gamelan instruments?
I can change that.
Wonderful piece!

Por fin lo oriental y lo occidental BIEN integrados, sin que parezca un caos ruidista, como resulta demasiadas veces
