The comedy cops, deputized by Joe Rogan, are here....two things amuse me with regards to Leary: 1) That the 5 bits he "stole" were so brilliant that the minute you hear it, the joke's author is emblazoned in memory...not possible to hear it, forget it, then recall it, but as original thought like everybody on earth has done. 2) That the 27 years, the other jokes, the movies, TV, books somehow don't count because he had 4 bits like Hicks' and 1 like Louis....

I never agreed with the Bill Hicks/Leary stealing thing, I watched them both end to end and they do have some of the same premises but that's understandable seeing as it was made during the same period so they both started from the same news. Take Rogan and Burr, they both made jokes about Bruce Jenner and the Scientology thing in their specials, and some of the jokes are very alike, but it's not stealing, it's just that they both watch the same news. The Louis C.K. thing I don't think we can't comment unless there is video or proof of that night where Leary stole from Louis. But frankly, "The Job" and "Rescue Me" were great and Leary is funny, so I don't really care. It's not the same thing as Mencia, The Fat Jew or Shumer who made their whole career out of stealing sh*t.

First of all, settlements are often made in payments. It could be $1 million per year and then when Bill O dies, she collects the rest off the estate. Second, Bill O disputes the amount. The amount is confidential and if anyone reveals it, the deal is off and the case is dismissed with prejudice (i.e. cannot be re-litigated) and I would guess it was HER side that leaked the figure (if it's true) and Bill O now says he'll be suing for breach of the confidentially agreement. You're not allowed to reveal ANYTHING about the settlement amount - lying it upwards or lying it downwards.

If he used ALL CK's quips about being an asshole and musicalised it then CK has legs to stand on but Leary wrote a lot of those lines himself AFTER he heard CK's bit. How many times have you heard comedians delivering a joke LIKE another comic? None of these guys invented the idea of a joke, so theres that.
and Tom Segura has stolen Louis' jokes too, but they are on a podcast together. turns out it's pretty common to have overlapping jokes, and the only time it's "theft" is when they have an axe to grind.
