How To Make One Arpeggio Into 25 Great Jazz Licks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 чер 2024
- It is surprisingly difficult to get arpeggios to sound good, and often solos become boring and predictable with uninspired jazz licks, that's why it is very useful to work on becoming better at putting things together so that it sounds great.
In this video, I took a really basic Cmaj7 arpeggio and wrote 25 short and easy Jazz Licks using that arpeggio, so if you are looking for inspiration or want to check out some new ideas then you can probably find something here.

My name is Jens Larsen, Danish Jazz Guitarist, and Educator. The videos on this channel will help you explore and enjoy Jazz. Some of it is how to play jazz guitar, but other videos are more on Music Theory like Jazz Chords or advice on how to practice and learn Jazz, on guitar or any other instrument.
The videos are mostly jazz guitar lessons, but also music theory, analysis of songs and videos on jazz guitars.

How do you work on writing better lick, Transctiption, composing?

Seems like this is just as much a lesson on 1. More advanced enclosures that sound great, and 2. Understanding the need to have a "target" note where you know you are heading. Great stuff.
True 😁 Thanks David
Great lesson Jens! You've got the gift of making topics much clearer. Thanks!
Arpeggios are so fun man! They really unlock how to work around the fretboard to make interesting soloing!
Thank you, RC 🙂
@@JensLarsen My pleasure!
You are a master (sensei) jens !
great vid Jens, what I really like is how you inspire to become more creative instead of saying "Play this arpeggio over that chord"
A brilliant weaving together of several concepts. Thank you.
Make Music!なんてステキな言葉!ギター弾きながら、頭で難しいことばかり考えてたのが、すごく気楽になれました。Thank you From JAPAN Tokyo👘🌸🇯🇵
Really glad to hear that :)
Excellent exercise Jens. Again, you give us nice doors to open to learn how to play and understand Jazz philosophy. Lick #11 I’d say is Jens style ! Thank you again ! Definitely an exercise I was looking forward to practice.
Amazing. I always get incredible insight from all your lessons, thank you. You should think about creating an online school for jazz guitar, with work plans and all kind of PDF materials. I would pay to learn there, for sure!
Another thing: how is it possible to have one "thumbs down" after 50 min of posting this great video? Haters will always be haters :)
Thank you, Filipe! Did you check out my online course? 🙂
Thanks Jens! Just in time for my morning practice
Glad you like it, Ross!
Great great lesson
Welcome to the world of jazz
Please more videos like this.
This is fantastic, will keep me busy for a while. Thanks!
Great! Glad you like it 🙂
Love the examples Jens! For me, the most important thing for writing new lines is being able to forget my old lines.
Contenidos concretos de exelente calidad..buen video
Thank you 🙂
Great lesson! Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you 🙂
This is great. So much to work with here.
Thanks! Glad you think so :)
I want you to know that I learned alot from watching your videos. It helped with my Neosoul and Lofi music 😁 Stay safe and Best Regards!
Yes please do the follow up video you are always great!
Thanks again Jens.
These are great! Would love to see some longer etude style examples if possible. But these short ones are great for the UA-cam format
Excelente ayuda
I am going to try and song these lines ( octave lower) , looks like a month's worth of work 🙂 thank you, appreciate that you do each line twice, with notations.
Great video.
Good lesson Jens thanks brother
Thank you 🙂
great video
good work
as i am running these around the circle of fourths, i have found certain keys where my mind seems to 'hiccup' while playing
thanks for shining a spotlight on areas to develop
be safe, be happy, work hard
peace \m/
Thanks! You too!
Fantastic!
Thank you 🙂
Amazing
Thanks
This video has helped me a lot. I've been struggling with how to do just this exercise, and the wealth of examples has been great in helping me widen my vistas.
It would be great if you could make the same video but with how to make the Dm7 arpeggio into 25 great jazz licks. (NB: this is not the same as your video on 25 arpeggios that sound amazing on a Dm7 chord).
Terima kasihhh 😁😁
I would really like to see a video of you using the things you said at the end in a solo
Okay nice idea i am stidyong ruthm changesnon piano so at the moment I am wrting out licks on Majj7 and the different steps I try to make a puzzle with the nicest licks....till now I start to like the triads on the altered chords a few days ago I practiced maj shape over all different dom' s possible....
thanks Jens
btw can you have a solo performance on some jazz standards ? would be great
No problem! Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/bgWj4Y-qeIY/v-deo.html
that is what you mean right?
@@JensLarsen great !! hope you're uploading more of jazz standards performance, thanks 🙂 you're really helping us newbie guitarists to achieve their jazz dream
@@1233farhan Super! Just a thought: If you are a beginner then chord melody is not where you want to start!
great video as usual couldyou make a similar video except swapping out chords for each function in a measure of progression but using the melody writing in this video
Thank you! I am actually not sure what you are asking?
Jens, I know it’s too much to ask but can you make a short video where you improvise on C Maj 7 , 2-5-1 on 8th fret position ? Same position where you played during this video but using all 3 arpeggios. I am sure everyone will appreciate it and learn from it. Thank you so much again.
Maybe check out this post jenslarsen.nl/2-5-1-how-to-solo-with-diatonic-arpeggios-the-most-important-approach/
Cool shirt
Thanks 😁
Can u do ted green chord progression that would be dope
Ted Greene didn't really write progressions, he just uses songs, II V Is and turnarounds, so I am not sure what you are asking exactly? :)
Ik heb binnekort een voor je. mag jij het ritme transcribe haha.
Good luck
