Michael Mercer was also in the Military, he was a US Marine, he also saved a city and he grew up an hour from Philadelphia in Strasburg. I think there is a correlation between our Mercer and the historic Mercer... maybe relation but most likely a reflection of their deeds as a military commander.
I think they knew people would perk up hearing someone say Mercer 😂 its a nice touch, obviously not talking about the mercer we know from the show, but still a fun thing to hear.

A captain or major outranks her. Also Rick and Pearl would immediately made Sergeant Majors after completing basic training? Also Pearl gets promoted to a command sergeant major which I have never heard of before? Also she’s give Okafors job even though he was a lieutenant colonel which is far above her? None of it makes logical sense.
