I can remember reading an article about Tex in of all places The National Enquirer back in 1970. I have always been fascinated by the whole Manson thing. It’s fairly tame compared to what goes on today.
I think he's genuinely remorseful, and Patricia Krenwinkel even more so, but once you cross that line you can't un-cross it and they have to die in prison, that's all there is to it. It's a case study, really. These were two relatively normal people who fell under the influence of Manson, loaded up on drugs out the wazoo, and ended up doing some really evil shit. As the years passed and they "came down" for lack of a better way to put it, the full realization of what they did hit them and now they live with guilt every single day. It's like good men who go off to war and end up doing things that haunt them for the rest of their lives, or to be more relatable, otherwise good people in Nazi Germany who were complicit with what happened there. The scariest part is that even though you'd vehemently deny it, there's something deep down inside a lot of us that can be tapped into if your brain gets screwed with enough.
