I can't begin to express how useful I've found this. I've been using Sibelius for over 5 years now and I've had my eyes opened up massively. Thank you!
Most helpful! I'm just starting with Sibelius. For years I didn't want to make the change from Finale but I've decided to jump in and this video has given me a better understanding as to how Sibelius and I'm now looking forward to writing my first arrangement.
I just keep coming back to this to learn a new trick or remind myself if I forgot how to do something. In my opinion, its the most practical list of things on internet for Sibelius. Thanks so much JJay!
Wow, thanks a million times, I’m switching from Notion to Sibelius, this video is full of great tips. And it’s impressive and inspiring to watch how fast you are at this!
Instead of doing 2 separate dynamic markings for each voice, you can just select the dynamic marking and choose which voices it applies to in the keypad :)
This was very intense video. So much info - my head is just blowing! Although I already use most of the shortcut, there were some things that I didn't know. Thank you for these priceless tips!
Could you please return the time-stamps, in the video description? I always come back to this video and they are so helpful to go straight to where I need to. Thank you, and keep up the great work!
Tried to upload this yesterday but the 1080p file was 90 GIGS! Would have taken 2 days with my crappy internet haha. Hopefully 720p is still clear enough.
it was very helpful. The main thing I wanted was about writing for the different instruments, putting everything in one staff, changing to open voicing and transferring to the other instruments. BUT the things I learned leading up to that were amazing. I really thank you.
This was so helpful. I hate having to read through the whole Sibelius menu to only find the little features that would be useful to me. Perfect ADHD tutorial for the ADHD user. 😋
Excellent video! Incredibly thorough and I learned some new things. I enjoyed your explanation of using stemlets within the context of your brass fanfare: yes, it made sense to use them, and would give the people playing it just enough context to help them understand the rhythm, without being redundant! Fantastic work.
This is so great! I watched this video a year ago, and basically learned most basic features and work flow hacks in Sibelius from your video alone :-) Watched it again now to brush up on some features, and still learning new things :-)
I'll say again...this resource is INVALUABLE!! Thank you so much for creating it :) Wonderful to be able to come back here and click on a time code to jump somewhere I need some help. Thank you JJay!!! :D
Also, regarding chord symbols... I have a piece which has quite a few complex jazz chords, changing every beat, they either start overlapping, or just being far too close to each other to be able to read clearly at any speed. How do I create more separation between the chord symbols without making the sheet music look weird?!
Very helpful video! And you went the perfect speed. The best info was Alt Shift N. I could have used that today, in fact. Just re-input the pitches and keep the rhythm, etc. I do tabs for keyboards/guitar/bass/drums. My most frustrations are in the guitar tab area ... different than this video, but I liked your comment that whenever you're doing the same thing over and over and over and over and (...), stop and research it. I am going to take that advice, starting now. My favorite parts of the video were: "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...gloria" (or maybe I heard that wrong ... I totally burst out laughing ... too late, wife is sleeping). The other was the saying to remember the harp pedals. LOL. I'm thinking that will be my next album title. And cool to see that harp plugin. There is so much I don't yet know about this program, and I've been using it for years. I haven't read through all the comments, but hairpins CAN advance with the space bar (could be a new thing since your video). Also, instead of going to the inspector all the time, you can right click the item and get options (I use that for un-magnetizing stuff all the time). Also for system breaks, you can select the bar line (or maybe bar) before you want the break and hit return. You probably know all of this, but I had to say it (OCD?). Thanks for the video!!
Baahahaha, "Poop it out on to the score." ... Couldn't have put it better myself. Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will use it!
Great tutorial, thanks! Can you please do one using video, hit points, how to adjust later to fit video, etc? And one direct question: it's possible to make Sibelius use the Logic Pro X sounds?
I used to refer to this video, it was useful. Until you removed the description and the time stamps. Would you please put them back again? It would really be appreciated!
Great! ;) I have a question: I want to write all the chord diagrams of a song in a line below the title. To reach this I write a chord to the notes in the first line. But: when I try to center them on the page the attached notes also move. So I only get either the chord diagrams in good position or the notes, but never both. - Is there a possibility to write chords that are not attached to a note? Would be a great help! :)
I'm having an issue with the size of a video I exported into Sibelius. Despite me clicking on the "Half-Size" option, Sibelius will NOT reduce the size of the video. Any suggestions?
Hi JJay! great videos. I have the Sibelius on annual subscription. My problem is that the ctrl+shift+arrow for cross-staff doesn't work on my PC. Any tip please? Thank you!
Hi, I realy like it your tutorial. Very usefull. I didn't find one thing. How can I make different time signature for two different instruments in the same time? Can you explain it please?
Great video JJay. Is there any chance you know if it's possible to 'sellect' all the notes of one pitch for a whole piece? For example this would allow me to raise all the F"s to F#.
Count Blissett No, but whether or not that's possible depends on whether or not the note names that can appear in the notes are a superimposed font for a symbol. If they're a symbol, you'll have to make your own manually. I'll look into it.
JJay Berthume no, no, I was just curious about if this function exist because I normally think more about what is that note inside the chord than what name the note have and seeing it indicated in a big score can be helpful, at least for me.
How can I playback some certain place to sample the chord and harmonics, for example one chord of my brass quartet notatino? Like, to play that certain place with nonstop?
Hi there, could you help me figure out how to do two different parts on one stave? eg Trumpet 1 and 2 on one stave? im trying to for example have trumpet 1 hold a whole note, while trumpet 2 does a moving melody in the same bar
Hi JJay , pretty nice tuto thanks a looooooot! Do you know if it's possible to use an Azerty pad?? I cannot do easily the shortcuts you use...not pratical at all Should I bye a Qwerty? Thanks
Hi Jay. I have a question re rehearsal marks. I'd like to have rehearsal marks A1, A2, B, A2. This will help the musos memorise the score quicker. I know how to input the rehearsal marks and i've looked at the formatting options. However, frustratingly. This simple variation seems tantalisingly just out of reach. Any suggestions? Cheers
I'm currently debating whether I should get the perpetual license or subscription. I will have the education discount, so I will essentially be paying the same amount per year that license holders pay to keep up to date.. thoughts??
First of all, you're quite amazing. So knowledgable. I was following your video and I wasn't seeing features that you were demonstrating. I discovered that I had Sibelius First and not the full version. I was banging my head against the wall. I upgraded to the full version as a result. You may have said that you're using the full version in the video, and I missed that part. If you didn't, it would be helpful for less evolved people, like myself, so that we don't go through the angst that I did. Moving on, is there a way for me to send you a screenshot of a piece I am notating so that I can show you a problem I am having? It might seem quite trivial, but to me it's an issue. I need help. Thank you very much for this amazing video!!!
I can't begin to express how useful I've found this. I've been using Sibelius for over 5 years now and I've had my eyes opened up massively. Thank you!

without sounding exaggerated but...you are a God. This is so, but so clear and precise, useful and FULL of information. Thank you SO SO SO much!
After 25 years of use, I am finally fed up with the instability of Finale. This helps my transition to Sibelius tremendously. Thanks!
20:28 " it puts it into the mouse and you can just poop it out in the score" RE time sig configs. This is a great tutorial JJ thank you .
Wow! This is the definitive manual for Sibelius. Congratulations! Really appreciated.
I just keep coming back to this to learn a new trick or remind myself if I forgot how to do something. In my opinion, its the most practical list of things on internet for Sibelius. Thanks so much JJay!

Watching and applying this in my own work almost makes Tantacrul's critique of Sibelius not matter as much lol. Thanks!

How to input note 1/64 on sibelius?
Alvian Hanif All of the really short note values are on a later page of the keypad.
You rock JJay! Best video I've seen about Sibelius. You have taught me so much, and increased my workflow immensely, Thank you!!!

Thanks! You talking twice about pickups was funny. Great tutorial btw.
This is great!! I get bored and lose concentration with slow tutorials, so this is perfect.
i dont have sibelius but im still going to watch this whole thing
Yeah, same.
why in gods name lol
Love how fast-paced this is! Too many tutorials are snooze fests😂Awesome!
Very helpful video! Thanks for sharing all these time-saving techniques!
41:57 😂 i try my best honestly but still can’t respect this program THAT much ;) I admire your patience.
On the NotePerformer home page they recommend that you change the Espressivo, in Performance, to Meccanico. It really do make a difference.
Lennart Östman I didn't know that - thanks for telling me!
Thank you for putting this together. Like a succinct how to in my back pocket. Great work!
I'll say again...this resource is INVALUABLE!! Thank you so much for creating it :) Wonderful to be able to come back here and click on a time code to jump somewhere I need some help. Thank you JJay!!! :D

Great advice . . . . . Please advise on Tuplets over the Barline - especially against triplets

this is the go-to video when I bump into questions.
Awesome awesome video! Do you have a video showing how to input harp/piano fingering in a quick way?
This is great! Thanks again. You're channel rules for starting composing nerds like me.
Wonderful tutorial - thanks!
Very helpful. Quick and clear! Thx
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. It helped a lot!

Dude that was a great video! Respect :)
Really helpful !! Thank you!
Best Sibelius tutorial , thanks a lot man! Thumbs up!
Thanks for the tips! It's a lot of info for 1 video, but very useful!
You can crescendo from or decrescendo to niente by creating a custom definition in the play dictionary with “n” having a dynamic value of 0.
THIS JUST CHANGED MY LIFE haha thanks for this tutorial JJAY!
Very USEFULLLLL man!! Many many thanks about that!
You rock! Thanks for the knowledge. Gotta save this one.
Спасибо, чувак, очень полезно! Дай Бог тебе здоровья!
Thank you so much for making this GREAT tutorial. I'm gonna have to save this one and revisit it several times. 2,2,3.... :D !
Hey man, awesome video. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Guatemala
Thank you for this! Extremely useful!
Baahahaha, "Poop it out on to the score." ... Couldn't have put it better myself. Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will use it!

You sir are the real MVP
You are BRILLIANT. Wowsers.
Great tutorial, thanks! Can you please do one using video, hit points, how to adjust later to fit video, etc? And one direct question: it's possible to make Sibelius use the Logic Pro X sounds?
Extremely useful! Thanks a lot :)
Great...everything i needed :) thank you
Hella useful vid. Thanks.

Thanks a lot-really informative
Bravissimo excellent tutorial
Thank you SO much for this video! :)
Brilliant video thanks very much! Is there any other notation software that has the same functionality with a numerical keypad?
wow !! really helpful !! many thanks !
Very helpful, thanks JJay!!!
You are amazing!!! Thank you Thank you
Thank you, JJay. Is it possible to change the text of a header on a certain section of a score only?
Hi JJay! great videos. I have the Sibelius on annual subscription. My problem is that the ctrl+shift+arrow for cross-staff doesn't work on my PC. Any tip please? Thank you!
Could you do a video on how you get your scores publish ready? I would like to see your workflow on that since obviously you score VERY fast! haha.
Hi, I realy like it your tutorial. Very usefull. I didn't find one thing. How can I make different time signature for two different instruments in the same time? Can you explain it please?
Thank you so much for this video!
Great video. Chlorpheneramine can help that nasal drainage.
Can you tell me how to select a complete line of notes for a whole piece. For example. I'd like to change all the middle C notes to a B. Thank you.
Great video JJay. Is there any chance you know if it's possible to 'sellect' all the notes of one pitch for a whole piece? For example this would allow me to raise all the F"s to F#.
really nice informative video, nice
Great video!
Do you know how to make the note head show number inside the chord instead note name? (1,3,4,7,9,11,etc)
Count Blissett No, but whether or not that's possible depends on whether or not the note names that can appear in the notes are a superimposed font for a symbol. If they're a symbol, you'll have to make your own manually. I'll look into it.

Awesome ...thanks mate
How I can add some custom signs like question mark on top of not. Thats for persian percussion. I also need to have just one line instead of five
You are awesome, thanks!!
thank you that was terrific
i cant seem to tie using Enter any more - that only changes the note to its enharmonic...?
matthew johnson It’s tie on the numerical keypad. Glad you enjoyed it!
How can I playback some certain place to sample the chord and harmonics, for example one chord of my brass quartet notatino? Like, to play that certain place with nonstop?
Hi there, could you help me figure out how to do two different parts on one stave? eg Trumpet 1 and 2 on one stave? im trying to for example have trumpet 1 hold a whole note, while trumpet 2 does a moving melody in the same bar
in Logic Pro is easily possible;)
Hi ! I created a title page, now I want to delete it. What should I do? Very appreciate your help ! )
Excellent! Thank you 🙏
Hi JJay , pretty nice tuto thanks a looooooot!

Jon Nichols Hey Jon, add me on Facebook!
Thanks for your reply, mate! I'm not on FB. I'll see if I can make a quick video and link it to you. Peace!
Jon Nichols Send me an email then! :) It’s in the description.
Excellent! Will do, thanks.
is there a way to move (select) from one score to the other without having to use the mouse?
