    My main hatred of these 2nd gen 24 valve Cummins Dodges is the faulty lift pumps that destroy the injection pump.

    One thing I hated about my 97 Cummins. CUPHOLDERS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE RADIO. Forever cleaning dried coffee off the screen.

      They changed them and put them under the radio in 98 I believe

    Those are some silly "hates" for a 2nd gen. I have a 99 5 speed 4x4, and trust me there are worse problems then antennas lol:
    1) unsupported steering box. Leads to powersteering leak at the pitman arm.
    2) weak Y style tie rod and drag link design. Leads to steering slop or "death wobble." T style is much stronger, tighter, and safer.
    3) Engine oil leak develops in the vacuum pump and power steering pump assembly
    4) terrible parking brake design. I still can get mine to hold properly on a hill without putting it in gear.
    5) weak track bar mounting design that is prone to steering slop or death wobble
    I love my truck as well as turning wrenches, but all these small fixes add up even when you do then yourself.

      Daniel Bryant This video was never supposed to blow up like this man. It was honestly just for my subscribers I had at the time and I made this video strictly just discussing my personal truck. But I agree with you 100% on each of those discrepancies you listed. Thanks for watching though, and I make a lot better videos nowadays if you wanted to check them out haha

      ParoDoXz I didn't mean to be a hater. First of all nice truck. I'm active duty as well, and I miss my truck like crazy. She's in my garage in Washington, and I'm off to wrench on Apaches.

      ParoDoXz I'm working on a build list for when I get home to liven up my 99. I rebuilt all the steering before I left. I fixed all my leaks and got a new paint job. I installed a new lift pump and gauges. I bought a used smarty and now it time for a turbo clutch and injectors.

    Man, the older body style ones seem to like to catch all the bugs it can on the highway. I've honestly never had a truck that would get so dirty just driving it. The vent windows also like to whistle, so good luck trying to listen to any music driving down the highway. They also make the brake pedal like 4 feet above the accelerator, so it can make the transitions somewhat awkward. And you think your paint is bad? My truck has nice new looking paint, it pretty much always sits in a garage, and I decide to drive it for two months without being in a garage, and the paint on top of the cab went from new to faded. But other than that, it is just an amazing truck, it pulls hard up hills, and has no leaks, no oil consumption, which for a 25 year old truck with 165k miles is miraculous.

      No prob, another thing too is the pesky wire that engages torque converter lock up can sometimes catch electrical interference from alternator and basically make your trans flip out. There's some stuff online that describes it, just want to tell you ahead in case it happens that its not your trans haha! Only bad thing about these trucks I battled with that problem for 3 years before I figured out what it was.

    • @ParoDoXz

    what year of Cummins 6spd's is the most reliable I don't want a 12v there gutless and I don't like the interiors of the 94-97 Dodges. I do like the 03-05 Dodges I love the tear drop headlights. I'm a Chevy guy o wait ment to say was drove Chevy all my life did have a 97 ram 3500 V10 it was gutless and hard of fuel and handled like crap sent it to the scrap yard then a 99 5.9 gas it was terrible on fuel. other then them it's bin Chevy but it's time for a change . Duramaxs are over priced and are a bitch to work on and expensive the Cummins seems to be the best bang for my buck and something I can work on.

    I shorten my antennas myself, it's pretty easy. Pop the little ball off the top with some pliers and then cut the antenna to the desired length. Use a file to narrow the tip, put a dab of JB Weld on it and tap the ball back on top.

    Google "Painless Dent Repair" in your area. A good PDR tech could probably take 95% out of that dent out to where its not to bad or at least tolerable till you can get her in the booth. I owned a Body shop for 15yrs and we used those guys a lot on small stuff. I realize the paint has been scratched but lifting that dent up will help a lot in terms of eye sore. Keep up the good work, I've enjoyed the build up.

    Nice to see some honesty above and below from the Mopar guys. There is usually none. From observations on work trucks 1990 to present, most considerably under 100,000 and generally treated rough:
    1) Chevys had a lot of brake problems. Mid-2000's mostly. One ignition interlock failure probably due to one particular person. Strange electronic gremlins in one GMC. Good gas motors and smooth. Meh interiors and blower fans quit. One Duramax okay too but well cared for.
    2) Ford (all v8) had the most motor failures, all 6.0 diesels and one older gas v8 losing a lot of coolant but still in service. 7.3's using a lot of oil but still going. Modern European diesel design vs. American fuel is not working. The surviving 6.0 liter had the most regular oil changes and idles a lot. We'll see. Better than expected except 6.0 powerstroke, one new 6.7 has done good so far.
    3) We have one 5.9 Cummins but it has an easy life. One V8 magnum dodge developed electronic issues while another was smoking pretty bad when they were sold. Dashes cave in. New inline Cummins motors have been trouble free, but are already needing fuel filters. Did I mention how bad dirty our tank fuel is?
    Bottom line: They all break if you use them and don't maintain them meticulously, and the same goes if you try to bro racecar your truck. For American full size trucks there is the 5.9/other inline Cummins, the 4.9 Ford, and MAYBE a chevy v6. The rest are V8/V10 permutations and while zoom zoom they are suspect and not nearly as durable as inline motors. And after driving all of them so much, I dream of stick shift Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords in bland shades of tan and grey. Cheers!

    Five things I hate:
    1) Steering Box
    2) 4-Speed Auto Transmission Struggles to Find the Right Gear While Towing
    3) Dash Cracking Problem
    4) Cup Holder Bracket
    5) Stock Speaker Wires Break in the Door Jam
    Other than that, love my truck! I have a completely stock 1999 Cummins w/ 250k on it.

    they turn the hp and torque down on that motor for the auto trans to hold it its actually more power then that trans can hold... you need the manual trans if you want to upgrade the turbo or stay out of the pedal...

    • @alanack67
      @alanack67 8 років тому

      Shift kit (100$) or an updated valve body (500$)
      you need more line pressure to hold the power
      Billet band strut, servo And accumaltor (few hundred)
      A good single disc converter price varies greatly.
      Triple disks are really hard on stock inputs
      Shouldn't cost more than 2,000 at a shop. Call it good to 400hp
      Manuals suck, especially the nv4500 they can't take abuse like a built auto can

      That is a myth... People
      used to leave the Diesel engine running to maintain max air in the
      reservoir for the air brakes. But, that is no longer an issues since
      today's compressors can build up to operating pressure in 5 minutes.
      Only corn balls leave a Diesel engine idling with a straight pipe when going through a drive through.. Its actually damaging to a 5.9 12v or 24v to leave it at low idle for any length of time... but hey what do I know ....

  • @chadgronsten9023

    Dont make the mistake of to big a turbo....they boost late are smokey and cause high egts at part throttle...a big turbo requires lots of fuel and rpm to get wound up..making daily driving the shits. That hw35w boosts instantly and is good for 450 500 hp...its aggressive enough that one will need to stud the head if you get carried away.

    Nice truck dude! 2 tips from a guy who has 2 of them. 1. It looks like your dashboard might have fell apart like both of mine and thousands of 99.5-2002 models. (I noticed the carpet) If you don't know, you can buy a plastic molded dash cap that looks just like the original dash and unless you know what your looking for you can't even tell it's a cap. check it out on youtube and E-BAY sells them for the best price. Very easy install! 2. I noticed you were "sawing" a little with your steering going down the road, you may have something loose in the front end but a likely yet often overlooked culprit may be the bushing at the bottom of your steering column under the hood just above the first u-joint in the extension shaft to the steering gear box. If you pop the hood and grab the steering shaft and there is more than just a touch of play, google :rock solid ram steering.com. Again an easy install with a couple tools and it will make a world of difference. Hope this helped and again, nice truck dude and keep it going!

      @ParoDoXz  8 років тому

      Thank so much for the advise man! I really appreciate you watching the video as well! • @3geozac
    @3geozac 8 років тому

    Leaving this under the wrong video but I watched the LOVE video and realized you already have the cover on there(pretty sure). They snap in perfectly over the dash and you can find out if you inspect a little further. Look at the vents in the dash, the defrosters for the side windows especially, you will see 2 layers. Like I said you can't even tell unless you know what to look for. If you find that you do have one(because ALL of those dash's fell apart, they were chinese as hell) don't be afraid to take the carpet off because every manufacturer guarantees them for life. But by the looks of it from the overhead shot it is already there. And your welcome, I just like seeing the old stuff keep going and again.........Nice Truck!

      If that's true then someone did a turbo swap before I bought it. Cause I have an hy35 man. I wish I had the hx35

      I'm not an expert in diesels by no means, but I do know I have an hx35 man, like I said, I wish I didn't , and maybe someone swapped it before I got it, but I have a hx35

    Take your silencer ring out and get a "j-hook" for your turbo. You'll get that sound you want and more boost if you have a tuner

      I took the silencer ring out and don't currently have a tuner but want to get one soon. And build my tranny is the next couple things
