I couldn't believe how much dirt and dog hair this vacuum picked up the first time I used it, despite regular vacuuming with our old vacuum! Vacuuming stairs is so much easier also. The only thing I wish this vacuum had is a brush that I could use for things like vents and baseboards.
I did a lot of searching. I came across your video. Purchased this vacuum and have to say everything you said I agree and we really think this vacuum is an all around impressive machine. Thank you.
It arrived today. I used it with the charge out of the box and I'm already SO happy I purchased it. It cleaned a room and half off that small charge. It's so light and zippy when ultilizing the lift off feature! And it is SOOO quiet in comparison to my corded Shark. So I can FINALLY vacuum without fear of disturbing my little people. And an added bonus, my Chi-Wiener (Chihuahua-dauchaund mix) pup doesn't bark at it!
Shark stopped making these due to the ion battery malfunction. To replace a ion battery it's $80. I bought this p50 from Costco in 2019 n it stopped working after 2 months of use. It's a great vacuum but it goes through ion batteries.
Wow, impressive. I'll bet Dyson is looking over it's shoulder now. As a sort of lazy person with both hard floors and carpet, I think I'd like not having to swap between hard floor and carpet heads. As it is now, I usually just leave the carpet head on my V8 when I vacuum hard surfaces. Too bad there's no powered small head for stairs and such.
EXCELLENT REVIEW SIR! It is clearly going to be up to my wife and my mother (who lives with us) to watch this video and the F80 to see which one they want. I think the P50 is worth the extra money and is my pick. Hoping to use you link for the purchase. THanks.
Just bought a Dyson v7 motorhead a month ago for $250. Thanks Vacuum Wars for making me regret it and going out to buy the Shark p50. The p50 picks up what my v7 cannot on both hardwood and carpet. Gave the v7 to my wife.
@@a2isha The p50 is better because of the soft roller and the motor has a sealed Hepa filter system so NO dust escapes. Aaron Years ago I was in a department store that let you test the vacuums that they sold. The sales ladies were oohing and ahhing over the Dysons. After trying one, I thought that either they were paid off by Dyson or on drugs.
This is by far the best cordless vacuum what I have seen. It's true upright with onboard hose and fantastic duoclean head. Price is too high, but it will drop.
Yeah its at new release prices now. But I agree its like a cordless upright vacuum, I am thinking it will do better than the others with the deep clean test (which I will be doing in the 9 cordless vacuum review video) but Im not sure. I suspect it will either be the this one or the Dyson V10 which will win that aspect of the competition.
One thing I like about the V8 is how maneuverable the small cleaning head is. Just lift it up and put it where it needs to go (good for tight spaces). The Shark head looks chunkier. Did you find it more 'clunky', more difficult to get into tight spaces than Dyson or similar models?
It's not just where they can fit, but the Dyson can be picked up and placed into tight spaces even where it can't be "driven" in. Let's say there is a gap between a chair and a table that's smaller than the cleaner head, but lots of space behind the gap. With Dyson, just pick up the head, jump the gap and vacuum away. This could not happen with something like the Tacony Supralight which, while small and light, doesn't have the light head on a stick.

My battery is still going strong, but the small wheels at the front is wear out and just drag on the ground and they don’t have replacement wheels, but to replace the whole bottom part.
Just a little heads up: I didn’t realize that I had watched this earlier because it wasn’t marked as liked. I’ve noticed this with other videos that I know that I have watched but they aren’t marked “liked” anymore. I have read other UA-camrs mentioning this going on.
Just got it from Walmart for 219! I really wanted to get it through your link but Amazon was trippin at 280 :( so hyped to have my first over 60 dollar vacuum. Have a baby now so gotta worry more a out clean floors every day.
Had to re-comment on this one after having purchased this model. I was fortunate to find it at Bed Bath & Beyond for 280 including the 20% coupon, so great deal, especially when compared to a new Dyson V10. I now have both this and the Dyson V8. The pros: It stands on it's own like a normal vacuum, it's quiet, the bin holds a lot of dust and is easy to dump, it seems to do quite well at cleaning. Not having to swap heads for bare floors is also nice. Oh, and the price. The cons: it is a bit heavy with the lift away thing in place, but that seems to make it stick to the carpet better than the dyson and it's not bad at all when using it in lift away mode. The brush roll got very clogged with carpet fluff when I cleaned my extremely dense flocatti rug. No other vacuum does that, so I'm not sure why Shark has such an issue with this rug. I have not used it that much yet, but the filter seems to be getting dirty quickly - much faster than the Dyson does. All-in-all, I am very pleased with this little machine. I also have Simplicity Supralight cordless and I prefer this one to the Simplicity cordless. But one final con - it doesn't come with a powered mini-brushroll and I have not been able to find one on the Shark website.
First of all wow thats a great deal! I also love how its like the most conienient upright in the world, light, no cord, easy transitions etc. on the rug I would suggest running it either in hard floor mode (if the thick carpet setting doesnt do better) the brush spins less in HF mode. Double check if their are electrical ports on the handle, that will tell you if they will ever have a powered tool for it. I suspect it will come soon if it does have ports.
@@VacuumWars I think my solution to the thick rug problem will be to eventually get rid of the thick rug. It has been the bane of more than one vacuum and always results in a ton of rug fluff filling the bag or bin.
@@amylathrop8329 Please state which "storry" you are referring to and I will. This comment was based on immediate impressions of the Shark P50. I’ve been watching your channel for a while now. Thanks so much for providing such a great service. We have a smallish house (900 square feet) with all hardwood floors (not even a single rug). Would you recommend this vacuum over the jimmy jv 83? Based on your jimmy jv 51 review it seems like that unit might be better for us (the 51 is out of stock almost everywhere - and where it is in stock it is oddly more expensive than the better 83 model). The jimmy jv 83 is also about $40 cheaper than the shark ($230 vs. $270) with a stronger suction power. But maybe there are other considerations I’m missing? Thanks!
Rats. I was sold on this one until you told me the beater bar cannot be turned off. We have vinyl laminate planks that can be damaged by the bars. I’ll keep looking, thank you for sharing that detail!
Good for light cleaning if you have a dog that sheds it's not for you .doesnt pick up up in reverse because of ridged brush behind roller . Hard to clean rollers . Stairs are hard you need two hands . On hard floors it's edge cleaning is terrible or any floor .
i just bought one for long hallways and stairs I do in a apartment building. I tested it first time it seems like it has a good pick up and pulled some dirt out of what seemed like a clean carpet. I did go over a long wad of fake hair and it got stopped up in the roller but it was visible through the clear view , so I stopped immediately and pulled it out. I still have to read if you have to register it for the 5 year warranty.. so far thumbs up. Ps , it seems like I misses the symbols on the handle that you have a carpet and floor mode.... Updated.. not good for commercial cleaning long hallways...
Thank you for all these videos! So much information. Even though I must say im now second guessing every option. If you had to pick the best vacuum in the 150-250 price range, with hepa filter and ability to not get tangles from long hair, hard surfaces and carpet apartment, would you recommend this over others? I would be willing to spend more but this is my more comfortable spending level. There is just so many options!
Would you recommend this vacuum as a whole house vacuum? We have carpeted bedrooms and not sure if we should go for the powered lift away 800 series. Love your reviews by the way, have watched many of them they are very helpful!
I know this might be like comparing apples + oranges, but how would you compare the Shark P50 to the Dyson V7 Motorhead? The Dyson is on sale at my local store and I am wondering if I should just go with that? I am looking for a vacuum that is versatile (cleans low pile wall to wall carpet, wool area rugs, hardwood, and tile), has longevity and is repairable, and has a Sealed System with HEPA filter. Other things that came to mind after watching this video - deep cleans carpets (I'm a clean freak and have allergies), cleans carpet up to edge of baseboards, easy to clean rolls and dust bin.
I am curious about your opinion on this vacuum... would you choose the ion P50 or the vertex multiflex duo clean cordless? Which would you rather have?
Just found an "extra shelf display" at bed bath and beyond. looks like new, has all the parts...paid $85.00. Yep, $85.00. I couldn't believe it. Can't wait to test this baby out after work!
I've been looking at vacuum videos and really couldn't decide on a vacume. I think after this one I'm going to get this vacuum. Only hold is consumer reports rated this the lowest shark vacuum. Mostly due to what they say is suction but to me this looks like it REALLY sucks. Any thoughts on the CR poor ratting?
As far as keeping the brushes clean and filters washed. I suppose but that is true of any vacuum. I have found that Sharks are pretty sturdy vacuums for the most part. At least the premium versions of Shark vacuums. Their cheaper models do tend to be made of, well, cheaper materials.
Does this cordless have the least messiest dust bin clean-up process? I love the convenience of cordless, but I'm extremely allergic to dust, so I've had to relegate my Dyson V6 to sucking up centipedes, because manually emptying the dust bin is an unmitigated disaster. Wondering if this dust bin is ergonomic enough for a germaphobe like me to take the plunge... or should I stick to corded for a couple more years before vacuum technology is able to engineer a CORDLESS/BAGGED vacuum with HEPA filtration?
The dust bin on the P50 is a close to a corded dust bin as I have seen, its not going to be perfect but its going to be lightyears better than most cordless vacs.
@@VacuumWars Sorry, I meant to say "CORDLESS/BAGGED" vacuum. I accidentally wrote "CORDED/BAGGED" vacuum in my original post. I've since edited it. I don't think I'm asking for much: cordless + bagged + hepa filter + interchangeable rollers for carpet/hardwood. That seems pretty basic. But I understand vacuum technology has to catch up before they can mass produce this combination of basic features. And this is why I'm not overreacting to all this AI fearmongering. First, let's make a cordless/bagged vacuum. Then how about a portable AC? Or a toaster that actually toasts the entire slice of bread evenly? Then maybe we can talk android Armageddon.
Also could you maybe compare it to the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, Pet Hair Eraser Lift-Off, or Pet Hair Eraser Turbo which claim they have a tangle free brushroll.
does this vacuum handle pet hair well? I have 3 cats that shed quite a lot and don't want to make the investment if the vacuum is just going to fail on me, thanks
I just bought this vacuum per your recommendation & have been extremely disappointed. The instructions said to charge the battery for 3 1/2 hours before first use. It died on me after vacuuming one room in my house for 15 minutes on regular power. I charged it over night & it’s already lost 1/3 of the battery power from vacuuming one room in our house for two minutes. I tried the boost power on our high chair & it got nothing in the crevices. The power also really sucks at picking up anything on our carpet. Do you have any other recommendations for a similar cordless vacuum that would meet the same requirements for our family as this?
For your stair “problem” where the wand is too long. Does the vacuum hose not attach to the head without the wand in between? My shark apex duo does this... 4 yo thinks it’s a riot to vacuum with it in mini size.
When I first used this vacuum it did a great job but now I'm having problems with gritty material building up inside the clear cover located over the roller. Then at some point it releases the built up grit, dumping it on the floor or rug. When I check the roller, releasing it, there is still a collection of gritty material (small to very small sized). I realize that when suction is low, that I need to check for hair on the roller, blockages, dirty filter and dirty roller. So I spend the time doing all that and the same thing still happens. Also it was not picking up small pebbles/stones, small, not bigger than those cherries and certainly not as big as the nuts and bolts one sees being picking up in the ads. Do you have any thoughts on how I can resolve this. it is so annoying. It collects the dirt and then "poops" it out. Help.
at 1:49 why does it say 26 CFM on low with head and then at 3:05 is says 28 cfm on low power with head? Which is it? I am about to buy a vacuum and any type of trickery or bias is not good in a review. Please explain...thanks.
I just received mine after watching many reviews and yours included. I am wondering why the battery keeps popping out while I am vacuuming. Have you ever heard of this?
vacuum wars, I've really been debating between this vac and the Dyson V10. Im worried about reliability with the Dyson, I seen where batteries die within a couple years. Is this vac really that close performance wise?
Also, while not exactly a stick vacuum, have you considered reviewing the Tacony cordless vacuum? It's basically a Freedom or Supra (Tacony models) converted to battery power. It can be found for a couple hundred bucks - a price point that puts it in the mix with these cordless stick vacs. I have one. In a word, I like the Dyson V8 better, but it's not a bad vac. It's light and has a huge bag. shop.simplicityvac.com/p/cordless-freedom-s10cv
I have a Shark Navigator that gets caught on an area rug, so I was reviewing this model and the F80 cordless. Do you know if this vacuum or the F80 will get caught on the rug? I know that question is a reach, but thought I'd ask. Also, do you know how well the Duo Clean tech works on tile floor?
DuoCleans are excellent for tiles, one of the best actually, In general they are good for rugs with the suction adjust but its hard to say without seeing the rug. There is a limit of course.
The shark is great but in a household with 6 people and 2 dogs and about 4000 square feet I found it to just not hold up like a dyson. Just something to think about.
Same as any other lithium ion device. Battery chemistry is battery chemistry. Protip: Lithium's don't like being too full or too empty. Anything above 80% and below 20% puts exponentially more stress on the battery. If you can keep any lithium within that Goldilocks Zone of 20% to 80%, their lifespan will be 2 to 4 times longer (this is even factoring in the extra charges you need to make, how much longer it lasts also depends on the window you use within that Goldilocks Zone). Most lifespan loss is from using the top and bottom 20%, so I find it is a "good enough" to avoid just those. Most people don't baby lithium's like this because it's a hassle and it cuts the day-to-day real life use time of any given device roughly in half, but that's what is sacrificed for convenience in this case. Some companies keep this limit in mind and actually program the battery/charger to keep the battery in this zone without you ever knowing, but it's pretty rare. I don't know if vacuum manufacturer's do this, but I don't expect anyone to unless they specifically mention it. Keep in mind this is info on rechargeable Lithium Ion's. Every chemistry is different and likes to be treated differently and it's all far from simple stuff. :)
I watched this several times, unfortunately we don't have the p50 in Australia but noticed a model called nv800 and looks pretty much the same. Can someone please confirm this?
I'm just wondering about the brush. I have Collie dogs and the hair wraps around the brush, I have to cut the hair off the brush with scissors every time I vacuum. Is the brush removable like the NV 819?
Looks like this model doesn’t have the zero-m tech and the new speed has the zero-m but for some reason doesn’t have the duo clean. Any idea why the new speed doesn’t have the duo clean? Heard anything from shark?
Yeah it seems they rolled out Zero M with pretty limited choices (apex, speed, and the Rocket) though the rocket isnt available just yet. I suppose if it is a success it will eventually be rolled out to the other models.
Vacuum Wars I’m even more curious why the new speed doesn’t have the duo clean. If you know anyone at shark I’d be curious why they left that option off when the bigger version has both duo clean and zero-m so it’s obviously possible to have both.
The call anything light "speed" its not a specific designation. There are "speed" version of almost all the different models, The "speed" with Zero M is basically the new navigators I.E. The budget vac. the Duoclean Speed (800 series) will almost certainly be released with Zero M assuming it does well in the market.
Vacuum Wars I wonder why they didn’t add zero-m to the P50. Maybe it uses more battery. I guess the real question is does zero-m tech work. Can’t wait to see your review of it.

Rats. I was sold on this one until you told me the beater bar cannot be turned off. We have vinyl laminate planks that can be damaged by the bars. I’ll keep looking, thank you for sharing that detail!
That was a close call! Im glad we helped.
I've never bought a fancy vacuum before but holy crap I'm about to!
Good for light cleaning if you have a dog that sheds it's not for you .doesnt pick up up in reverse because of ridged brush behind roller . Hard to clean rollers . Stairs are hard you need two hands . On hard floors it's edge cleaning is terrible or any floor .
Why do I have a sudden craving for Fruit Loops?
i just bought one for long hallways and stairs I do in a apartment building.
I’ve owned this vacuum for almost 2 years now and it’s been nothing short of amazing. Buy it!
You seemed to be pleased with this vacuum
Lol, Yeah, I hope I didnt gush too much about it. I did like it a lot though.
Would you recommend this vacuum as a whole house vacuum? We have carpeted bedrooms and not sure if we should go for the powered lift away 800 series. Love your reviews by the way, have watched many of them they are very helpful!
I have a feeling the P50 is going to win the cordless contest hands down!
Well, It may win the premium vac category but Im not sure.
It looks like the P50 was discontinued. Do you know which of the current Shark vacuums replaced it?
I think the vertex cordless
Oh well the new upright duo clean shark
I am curious about your opinion on this vacuum... would you choose the ion P50 or the vertex multiflex duo clean cordless? Which would you rather have?
Just found an "extra shelf display" at bed bath and beyond. looks like new, has all the parts...paid $85.00. Yep, $85.00. I couldn't believe it. Can't wait to test this baby out after work!
That..is..an...insane...price.
Yessssssssss yessss
You think you can try out the Riccar supralite cordless and Oreck Pod?
I want both of those! And Im sure I will get to them eventually, but no immediate plans for either.
Wish he covered edge cleaning and filtration..
ua-cam.com/video/L_QIAFTUvDw/v-deo.html for the pros
ua-cam.com/video/PJTj28Ct4CE/v-deo.html for the cons (edge cleaning)
Excellent review. I'm getting it.
Like to see a review on the “Tineco A10” It has a good star rating on amazon, but I like and trust your test methods much more.
Just bought one for 100$ used do you think it’s a good deal
From
Where?
AXX XXA Facebook market place
I've been looking at vacuum videos and really couldn't decide on a vacume. I think after this one I'm going to get this vacuum. Only hold is consumer reports rated this the lowest shark vacuum. Mostly due to what they say is suction but to me this looks like it REALLY sucks. Any thoughts on the CR poor ratting?
If you like the lift away feature, then WHY NOT USE A CANISTER?
Good points, I dont have a good answer other than, canisters dont have Duoclean, and Im basically infatuated with Duoclean at the moment.
I wish I could buy this vaccum because it has some features I like
Its actually only 299 rn on amazon, so its even a better deal now!
I would imagine you could get an extra battery and increase the run time? How long does it take for a battery to recharge?
the only con for the shark is that it does need alot of maintenance. in my opinion
As far as keeping the brushes clean and filters washed. I suppose but that is true of any vacuum. I have found that Sharks are pretty sturdy vacuums for the most part. At least the premium versions of Shark vacuums. Their cheaper models do tend to be made of, well, cheaper materials.
Woot had this P50 refurb for 75.00!!! Of course I got 2
Will you test the Shark Apex with Zero M technology?
Yeah I am hoping to either get the Apex or the Navigator with Zero M sometime soon.
Also could you maybe compare it to the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, Pet Hair Eraser Lift-Off, or Pet Hair Eraser Turbo which claim they have a tangle free brushroll.
What is Zero M technology?
are vee Shark claims that Zero M technology on their new vacuums will eliminate hair warp on the brushroll
Thanks. Maybe they should call it "Zero H" for hair :-)
does this vacuum handle pet hair well? I have 3 cats that shed quite a lot and don't want to make the investment if the vacuum is just going to fail on me, thanks
The wand would be good but hose too short to get anything high up.
In Australia I can find the IC160, not the IC162 (physically in store).
It is however marketed as the P50. Just wondering if this is the same vacuum?
Do you find it gets clogged easily? Mine is giving me trouble.
give it a good cleaning if you can.
lol I was waiting for it
Nice.
When can you do the protean backpack vacuum
I just bought this vacuum per your recommendation & have been extremely disappointed. The instructions said to charge the battery for 3 1/2 hours before first use. It died on me after vacuuming one room in my house for 15 minutes on regular power. I charged it over night & it’s already lost 1/3 of the battery power from vacuuming one room in our house for two minutes. I tried the boost power on our high chair & it got nothing in the crevices. The power also really sucks at picking up anything on our carpet. Do you have any other recommendations for a similar cordless vacuum that would meet the same requirements for our family as this?
Hey kinda late😬😬 but GOOD NEWS! The p50 is only about 160$ at costco
For your stair “problem” where the wand is too long. Does the vacuum hose not attach to the head without the wand in between?
My shark apex duo does this... 4 yo thinks it’s a riot to vacuum with it in mini size.
Why’d shark discontinue this model?
No mention of filtration
Thanks for the review, recently got one at bed bath beyond for $210
Is this better than the dyson v8? I can’t decide between the two.
I just bought mine a few weeks ago and do not have any problems with the battery popping out. you may want to contact Shark.
Hi does this vaccum work well on high pile or plush carpet???as the hoover i have is too aggressive (beater bar)and it rips my carpet fibres up
Why has shark discontinued this?
Just received mine comes with 5 yr limited warranty bat tar comes with a 2 yr.
you are the best rewiever
Thansk!
Can you please do some test on car vacuum cleaners? Ranges from 30 to 100$?
I have been planning one, but I did do this video: ua-cam.com/video/tGquSQEQeiY/v-deo.html
This vaccum is same price as dyson v7, wich one is better
Are you planning on anything with your kirby?
No, I really dont have anything planned for a while. I have a full schedule for the next couple of months.
Ok, thanks for your reply
Completely sealed system???
Got one for $225 new on eBay. Good deal or not? I like it so far.
Thanks! Just saved me $50 by getting it off eBay. We will see how it is.
vacuum wars, I've really been debating between this vac and the Dyson V10. Im worried about reliability with the Dyson, I seen where batteries die within a couple years. Is this vac really that close performance wise?
Shark is good but Dyson is better quality even as "a brand-name". I would get the v10.
Cool, I have seen the Tacony and have been wondering, thanks!
Well Whitch one would u take to your grandmas house
Seriously?
Do you know why this vacuum is no longer on the Shark website?
hopefully there will be a new model with zero-m :)
Woof
Wish this thing was sold in Germany/EU.
But does it have the hepa filter with the sealed system like their uprights
Yes it does. I will be talking more about that in the multi cordless vac review video.
Approximately how many charges before the battery starts losing charge ability?
Can you do shark ionflex vs shark p50 please?
Good suggestions! Thanks!
I watched this several times, unfortunately we don't have the p50 in Australia but noticed a model called nv800 and looks pretty much the same.
Can someone please confirm this?
The Nv800 is a corded vacuum not a cordless like the P50
@@VacuumWars apart from that, pretty much the same?
The shark ion p50 took 2 passes in the Crevice test
is the battery warmed by the exhaust? if so this is a serious flaw
The exhaust is on the opposite side of the battery and is in no way warming the battery.
I'm just wondering about the brush. I have Collie dogs and the hair wraps around the brush, I have to cut the hair off the brush with scissors every time I vacuum. Is the brush removable like the NV 819?
You can remove the bottom plate very easily without tools to clean the brush roll better but the brush roll itself is not removable.
