  • This past week, it was seven years since we lost the wonderful Deborah Kerr. In memory of her I decided to make a tribute to 'The End of the Affair'.
I've seen pretty much all of her movies and for me, her role in 'The End of the Affair' has always been one of my absolute favorites. Her performance as conflicted wife Sarah Miles is brilliant - subtle and nuanced and works perfectly alongside the lovely Van Johnson as her brooding lover Maurice Bendrix.

Thank you so much Hepburned for this beautiful tribute. Wonderfully meaningful compilation and music. I just saw this movie last night. It's now in my top 3 "message movies" with "On the Beach" (Ava Gardner and Greg Peck) and "This Above All" (Joan Fontaine and Tyrone Power). I just can't get enough of Van Johnson. One of his best performances. His role is somewhat similar to what he played in "Last Time I Saw Paris", but this one is much more complex and nuanced and I love it. Deborah Kerr's performance is superb as well. Wonderfully brings out that duality in the role that you just understand at the very end from her diary. Pure magic. Thanks again!

Van Johnson was meant to play opposite Deborah Kerr in this movie. Such a great couple together. They did their VERY BEST .!!

I like this movie in that it starts out as one thing and turns into something different. Deborah Kerr was so wonderful in this, however, I wasn't all that keen on Van Johnson. He was too whiny for me, but I can't think of anyone who could have been a better substitute off the top of my head. Thanks for the lovely tribute.

How about Ralph Fiennes from the 99 version?

Try to read the novel. In addition read The Power and the Glory, The Heart of the Matter, which together with, The End of the Affair are the Graham Greene's catholic trilogy. All of them, together, are their master piece. "The End of the Affair" begins with this sentence: A story has no beginning or end. As the Nobel Price 2010 Mario Vargas Llosa wrote: It's a beginning like "Call me Ishmael" in Moby Dick. Great book, beautiful novel. Highly recommend.

Trovo questa attrice brava elegante fine di grande fascino.
Perché la rai non ci fa una bella serie dei suoi film più belli in prima serata.
Al posto dei soliti film violenti con spari bombe sangue virus di questi tempi poi.....
    Fateci stare sereni

LOVE WAS BETTER BACK ON THOSE DAY MARRIAGES WOULD LAST LONGER LETTERS WERE WRITTEN BY HAND.

What kind of love? Not everyone was free to be with who they loved. You point out this film for example. (Interesting choice.) An extramarital affair begins (one of many apparently for the Kerr character). The two leads have an extramarital relationship, fall in love yet cannot be together. How was that better? Marriages may have lasted longer but at what cost? People living miserable lives, and ruining their children's lives in the process. That's all acceptable because marriages "lasted longer". smmfh.

I don't. Why put this garbage music with a classic film?

Music is timeless. Doesn't always works dies here like it did with classic rock entries in Heath Ledger knight flick

@@corgicottage8578 I am curious as to why you consider this "garbage music." This music can move me to tears. I have lived these beautiful words.

sorry, Deborah and Van had no chemistry to speak of. Dirk Bogarde, maybe?

    • @SandySaunders9142

Dirk? Lol that's funny. It's odd because both actors were homosexual. Van played straight much better than Dirk ever could - IMO.
