When I go to a jam with my dulcimer-playing friends, I take my favorite diatonic. But when I have a chance to sit in with a mixed-instrument group, I always take my 4 EQ-string chromatic. It's a little louder and I can actually hear myself (most of the time), and also I can play whatever key anyone calls for. But often I have a hard time figuring out the changes when they're 2, 3 or 6 chords, so thank you for this! It's just what I need right now.
Well I'm only 3 frets away from chromatic bc I have 11/2 and the 81/2 on all my dulcimers except my diatonic which is really nice and (simple) but as I've gotten better on the dulcimer and playing different genres of music I've been wanting a chromatic for a while now! I'll eventually get one!! Really helpful video! Y'all have a good day as well
Is this class a college degree in music theory? Or are you asking if I have a degree in music theory? EVERY musician has ideas about what to do and why. It's cause and effect, and I love thinking about this kind of thing and sharing my thoughts with others.
I recently started play with my buddies band electric guitar bass and drums playing classic rock tom petty Creedence clearwater revival kinda stuff and it's been a challenge with just 11/2 fret added with a dulcimer 🙃 and it's had me thinking about a chromatic alot
Nice. I've been working on getting more fluid and instinctive with movement on my chromatic. Not as easy as you make it look, lol. Appreciate the info and you sharing your methods, as always.
