Germany was strong, yes, but Argentina played without 4 first team players, after 2 extra times and against not the best ever referee. I remember this game and still believe that the first red card was doubtful, the second one was unnecessary, and the penalty was made up. Still Germany was the better team of the tournament, but it not impressed too much since the 1/8 round.

When it took place I was on a train to Madrid, wearing my 1970 German jersey (my mom had patched on the number 13) and I listened (without understanding spanish that much) to the radio! Mexican umpire codesel was the best in that world cup. I am not a German football fan. I have seen the England vs Camaroon in this world cup. If had penalty at that time, Germany would win only 1-0, but also 3-0 because all the match time, Germany missed many chances to score and Argentina put all buses in front of the goal.
As a German, admittedly I am biased, that being said: I think of myself as a sporting person and aside from winning always look at the way the victory (or loss) came to be. I must say that this was the day when I lost (most) of my admiration for the Argentinian team. They gave me even more reason in the 2006 quarterfinal in Germany when they caused an outright brawl after loosing in penalty kicks against Germany. But the (to date) lowest point was during the 2014 final in Brazil when they all but slaughtered Schweinsteiger who was bleeding from his face, was purposefully fouled numerous times and I believe never recovered from the beating he took that day. Argentina has produced some of the finest players over the decades, they do not have to play dirty and an important quality of a true champion is to keep one's cool in the face of adversity.

The red card was right, Monzon disregarded completely the ball and his tackle could have been very harmful.
If Klinsmann hadn't jumped he could have been severely injured.

Alemania fue muy superior, que tal vez sea dudoso el penalti no quita que Alemania fue justo campeón, fueron como 10 opciones de gol de Alemania por una de Argentina que fue un tiro libre muy desviado sobre el travesaño, así no se puede ser campeón. Ah y no olviden la falta de Goycochea sobre Augenthaler que si era penalti clarísimo y no pitaron.

@@danieltapiasserna7360 esa falta no es para amarilla, en cualquier lado se cobra tiro libre para el rival y listo, a argentina le cobraban todo en contra y el gol de Schilacci fue posición adelantada y ni se inmutaron los arbitros, como le vas a poner amarilla a un jugador en una semifinal sabiendo que se pierde una final, lo mismo el penal que cobra codesal, sensini cruzo la pierna pero logra tocar la pelota y voller se tira como si lo hubiesen quebrado, habia una orden que tenian que llegar a la final los europeos.

@Bagdo Savio. Haha. If the referee was more exact, he already gave Germany penalty at 0:50 when Argentina defender hit the ball by hand. It was lucky for Agrentina. If had penalty at that time, Germany would win only 1-0, but also 3-0 because all the match time, Germany missed many chances to score and Argentina put all buses in front of the goal.

As a German, admittedly I am biased, that being said: I think of myself as a sporting person and aside from winning always look at the way the victory (or loss) came to be. I must say that this was the day when I lost (most) of my admiration for the Argentinian team.
They gave me even more reason in the 2006 quarterfinal in Germany when they caused an outright brawl after loosing in penalty kicks against Germany. But the (to date) lowest point was during the 2014 final in Brazil when they all but slaughtered Schweinsteiger who was bleeding from his face, was purposefully fouled numerous times and I believe never recovered from the beating he took that day. Argentina has produced some of the finest players over the decades, they do not have to play dirty and an important quality of a true champion is to keep one's cool in the face of adversity.

This was a clear cheating against Argentina. I didn't understand the whole thing then coz I was a boy of about 5 years old plus with no interest in football and was very very angry they were watching it instead of what I wanted to watch.
