    This is so beautiful. I’ve listened several times. Can you help me understand something?
    I see that mind is empty and unborn. I see that senses have arisen, and tell of an apparently objective universe. I see that everywhere this body could go, I already am. So the universe and I must ultimately be one.
    I understand that all apparent objects are also the emptiness itself (not two).
    I see that belief and conditioning (conditioned mind/ego) interpret what comes in through the senses and create meaning. Judgments of apparent reality revolve around this ego, the ‘me idea’ that has formed, and it’s attachments, like family, neighbors, country, for example.
    Where I could use some help is with the metaphor of the mirror.
    When you say the mirror of mind reflects the fundamental fields of physics, are you saying that the mind sees the formless Self and gives the empty mind an interpretation for the ego and soul to use for contrast, growth, and ultimately clear seeing of Truth?
    I’m getting a little hung up on whether the mind is seeing or reflecting, which makes me think I’m not fully understanding the metaphor.
    I do see that life experiences such as problems in relationship, money problems, and so on, reflect beliefs (lack, unworthiness, etc.) we haven’t fully seen. Without a body we wouldn’t be able to see these beliefs playing out as experience.
    But I think you’re speaking of something slightly different here.
    Can you help? 😊❤🙏🏼

      > I see that everywhere this body could go, I already am. So the universe and I must ultimately be one.
      This is very good. The body moves and interacts within an environment. What is always present to know these interactions?
      When contemplating these interactions scientifically, the best way we have of describing them today is in terms of fluctuations or movements in fundamental fields. And when contemplating these interactions first hand, they are clearly known as these sights, sounds, sensations, feelings, and thoughts.
      Thus it can be said that the mind is the mirror in which the movements are being reflected. And it is these reflections which are known directly as experience.
      But this is where the analogy falters. The mirror here is not a medium reflecting a separate object at some distance to it. This mirror does not depend on any external source of light, has no substance, no location, and no stand. There is no support, no basis, no logical reason for the mirror.
      And so the mirror is not some separate medium to be cleansed to reflect Reality, but is in itself this most fundamental Buddha Nature. All things in the universe are the Essence of Mind itself! And the Essence of Mind is this most immediate Awareness, which is intrinsic to the nature of Reality.

      🙏🏼 So the mirror metaphor points to the independent, uncaused, empty, formless, eternal, aware reality.
      All that the mirror reflects - every experience including the body, every concept, anything phenomenal, no matter how subtle or minute - is dependent on the mirror. The mirror is empty and formless by nature yet no image (form) can appear without it. Everything depends on it.
      One could say “I am the mirror” just as Nisargadatta said “I am That”. The only difference being that the former is a helpful metaphor and the latter an intentional pointing to that which is before all metaphors. Yes?
      It also reminds me of the line in the Gospel of John: “All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.”
      What’s nice about the mirror metaphor is that there’s no room for separation between creator and creation. The reflection is the mirror, just as the golden ring is never anything but gold.
      As you said, all things are the essence of mind.
      🙏🏼

      Yes! Your understanding is right.
      It is, of course, a metaphor that leaves room for ideas of duality, as does even the phrase 'I am That'. But I can see that you have understood.

    In various traditions, they speak about the state of perfection, similar to what you've shared about Ramana Maharshi. What is the difference between being established in the Absolute reality - realizing non-duality, and being perfected? Many speakers on UA-cam describe non-duality as an endpoint, but this seems like a negation of the relative world, which evolves through cycles. Does our individual being continue evolving even after realizing the non-dual nature of reality, or am I misunderstanding? But if that is the case then there is still a process of refinement going on, right..
    Is perfection a state where one is completely cleansed of all impressions, leaving only a crystal-clear lens of pure awareness?
    I often hear speakers today claiming 'all is Brahman' and equating themselves with Ramana Maharshi, but something about that doesn’t resonate with me. Could you clarify the distinction?

    • @untangle-your-mind
      @untangle-your-mind  3 місяці тому +1

      When a mind enters some state, that state is only in reference to one stream of consciousness. It is no different than one dream among an infinity of dreams.
      Perfection is a not an individual or personal state. Perfection is not a state of the mind. Perfection is the Natural State in which the mind appears.
      Awareness is in itself perfect. And what comes out of Perfection can only be perfect. When Buddha Nature if forever pure, where can the dust alight?
      The idea of imperfection is based on the belief in individual selves. Someone with the agency to do better, someone to blame and punish, someone to attain perfection.
      The difference you see in Ramana Maharshi is not wrong. But the difference is not in terms of a state he attained; it is how completely and unwaveringly the belief in individual selves was gone. When there is no one to blame or hate, both inside and outside, then Love is natural and Perfection is realized.

    I have a question, is there any importance on working with your shadow side and integrating these fragmented aspects or is this a distraction when one has the ability to feel into pure Being and should one just simply practice the abidance and leave all other things?

    • @untangle-your-mind
      @untangle-your-mind  3 місяці тому

      The shadow is not even yours. The mind is the shadow of the activity going on in the brain. The shadows are made possible because of the Light. Identify with that Light if with anything at all.
      Great works will still happen because the mind will be freed of discord.

      Everyone has said that this is beautiful, so instead it may be better to say that it is profoundly wonderful. The message is exquisite, and precise. It would be arrogant to say that the message is fully grasped, but it would be a lie to state that nothing was understood.

    No Bodhi tree = no enlightenment
    No mirror stand = awareness is seen through as inherently empty ie not an ultimate reality,
    Since all is void = everything is empty of inherent existence that includes concepts like enlightenment/ a ultimate reality like Self or God
    Where can dust alight =
    Just wanted to point this out! Buddhism has a fundamentally different stance on enlightenment vs Advaita it’s worth looking into.

    • @untangle-your-mind
      @untangle-your-mind  3 місяці тому

      The video remains true to the Platform Sutra and the first-hand understanding of Buddhism.
      Huineng does not say there is no Bodhi, just that there is no Bodhi tree.
      Awareness does not refer to the state of consciousness. It is another term for the Essence of Mind.
      Upon realization Huineng does not say all is void. In his own words he realized that all things in the universe are the Essence of Mind itself.
      The concept of Dependent Arising or Dependent Origination applies to all that arises but not to what is realized as the Essence of Mind:
      "Who would have thought that the Essence of Mind is intrinsically free from becoming or annihilation! Who would have thought that the Essence of Mind is intrinsically self-sufficient! Who would have thought that the Essence of Mind is intrinsically free from change! Who would have thought that all things are the manifestation of the Essence of Mind!"
      Knowing that I had realized the Essence of Mind, the Patriarch said, "For him who does not know his own mind there is no use learning Buddhism. On the other hand, if he knows his own mind and sees intuitively his own nature, he is a Hero, a 'Teacher of gods and men', 'Buddha'."
