Being a Photographer, there's a group of folks I know that I photographed who are bascially "new age hippies" (Young and Old) who used to hold monthly "Drum Circles". It's a long story but it got to be as popular an event as it was every month, because of my photographing them and putting literally 300-400 photos of the gathering out on my Facebook photography page. The very first ones there was only 3-5 people that went, and then through friends of friends seeing each others photos from my postings every month, the monthly gatherings got so big (Upwards of over a thousand people!) that the local parks they held them at, told them they needed to start buying "Event Permits" to continue holding them. Sadly, that was pretty much the end of them. The Drum Circles went on for a good 8 years, with me capturing all the moments for everyone. To the point that, they all gave me the monicker of being their "Tribe Photographer". LOL Other outside photogs would come to the events (After seeing the images) and they be telling them "You can't photograph us, we have our own TRIBE PHOTOGRAPHER!" LOL While I appreciated the support and love they threw my way, I had to tell them "You all are doing these in public spaces, so anyone, whether they're a photographer or not, have every right to walk around and photograph you all". LOL Still, they were pretty successful in shoo'ing them off. Kinda funny. I mentioned all of that, sorry.... because there was a few times that they would gather and hold the Drum Circles up at Old Mans Cave in Hocking Hills OH. So it was cool seeing you get to go through there. Ironically, I was always busy with other actual paid photo shoots on the days they went, and I never got to be there to photograph those times. Sadly, I haven't even been there yet myself, just to walk around and photograph the area. Planning on it this coming Spring!
Old Man's Cave is the best memory of my childhood in Ohio. Have wanted to go back there some day but I live in the Sierra so unlikely to ever get to Ohio again. Thanks for showing so much of it. It was undeveloped in the late 50s. It was just all dirt trails then. Much improved for high tourist traffic now.
What a Great spot!! Kept wising Jenn could see this. Can’t wait for her to join you. My favorite video of the hike! You give this old lady so much enjoyment. THANK YOU 😊
The 100th meridian is the classic line between the arid west and the humid east. Beyond The 100th Meridian (Stegner) is a classic read on the history of the exploration and settlement of the region.
Bummed we missed you at Old Man’s Cave by three days!!! We knew you would be close, and would have loved to offer any help you needed. Happy hiking the rest of the way!
Wow! That was indeed one "spectacular" park! The waterfalls and streams and the really bizarre bridges made it really something. It is now on MY bucket list! Bet the stairs were tough on the old knees, however. I can walk down a hill OK (knees are now 70 years old), but put me on a set of stairs with my pack . . . yeow! Still, hike on! Tortoise
I never thought there was a reason to go to Ohio till I saw Hocking Strings. I would love to go there and spend a couple days meditating there. Its an erea you would expect to find elves.
Congratulations on getting through Hocking Hills SP in a decent time. This is really Ohio's favorite outdoor tourist destination. The crowds can be annoying for the solo-loving hiker. The annual winter hike, which I have experienced more than once, draws thousands of people, a spectacle I have never seen anywhere else.
Glad you enjoyed our "Crown Jewel". Once you pass Scioto Trail State Park, you get to play Frogger crossing SR 23/104. You are probably past Pike Lake State Park by now. We camp there in the fall. My grandparents grew up in that area, before they headed north in the 1930's to find jobs in the factories.
I live in Ohio and the Hocking Hills have always been a favorite of mine. There are so many other areas of the Hills that are not on this Buckeye Trail hike that are really worth visiting. Go during the week and there will not be as many other day hikers as on the weekend.
I hope you got to see the lights. I never thought I’d ever say I saw something in nature more beautiful than the 2017 eclipse…but, I’m saying it. the Northern Lights in East Tennessee were more beautiful. I still can’t believe it happened. I can’t even bring myself to format the memory card on my camera and clear my photos even though I already have them on my website. My soul just isn’t ready for them to not still be on my camera lol. I know it’s crazy but I’m completely serious. Again… sure hope you saw them. We had them here at 1030pm and then again at 230am. The second flare up of them here was way better than the 1030 one.
Sadly I did not. Too many trees to get good views of the horizon. Really a shame since it all looked amazing on Facebook and it’s always been something I wanted to see. I’ve now managed to miss two solar eclipses and northern lights in the past half a year or so
FYI The wet/dry line in the USA runs along an imaginary line from San Antonio to Winnepeg. That being said, you haven't lived until you see a Kansas Thunderstorm. Sky blacker then night and winds from nil to 60 in 15 minutes. May you be inside. Hocking SP is amazing.
IIRC it was I70 around Junction City. We were fixing a flat on the rear passenger side and didn't quite finish before we rode out the storm for 45 minutes in our car. P.S. cowboy camping at a tire repair store got us rousted. Fortunately Kansas Highway Patrol understood.
That short section with the mini canyons and waterfalls looked awesome. If you're ever in Luxemburg, there are three loops called the Mullerthal Trail, about 120km in total, of similar terrain. But that's probably too short a walk for you 😄
Crazy pretty Hocking Hills footage! You're nearing my home state of Indiana, hopefully the Hoosier State treats you well. It will most likely be similar weather/humidity to what you're experiencing now. The southern part of the state is far, far more geographically interesting imo. Madison is a really quaint little town. Warning, tho...if a small man asks if you want to suck chili dogs outside the Tastee Freeze, RUN-do not walk-in the opposite direction. It's probably a Cougar. 😂😂😂
If you like waterfalls, check out the Foothills Trail in South Carolina which is 76 miles long. They have many large and small. I thru hiked it back in March.
The area with the log cabin and shelters is called Pretty Run. There is an unmaintained road that runs through there so ATVs are likely to go through in the middle of the night.
If Jen likes waterfalls, and you do a roadtrip to Hocking, please go a little further to Valley Falls in WV. You won't regret it. And re Dolly Sods, your route didn't take you to the truly scenic spots that everyone equates to that name. Hopefully you will get to see it someday.
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Her experience is amazing. Almost unbelievable. (No real gear. Old woman in tennis shoes 🙀) You’d really get a kick out of it!
I think the ADT skirted through such a small part of Dolly Sods - you didn't get to experience what it is all about. I loved Hocking Hills, but it is showing some wear - people have not been very respectful of the area. It seemed over ran.

So many summer tailgate picnics at the caves so long ago. So happy to see it again through your eyes.
Wow - Hocking Hills area is so beautiful - I remember going there as a kid - you made me want to go back !!
Hocking Hills was beautiful!!! Watched that section twice!
What a Great spot!! Kept wising Jenn could see this. Can’t wait for her to join you. My favorite video of the hike! You give this old lady so much enjoyment. THANK YOU 😊
Glad you enjoy it :) we’re going to have to make sure she is with me when I come through here on either the Buckeye or the north country Trail
Thanks for taking the time to video Hocking Hills State Park. That place looked incredible.

We live a couple of hours from Hocking Hills. We love to go on weekdays when it isn't so crowded.

Kansas will be hot and windy. You'll be going right through my hometown.
Thanks, beautiful scenery. ✌🏻👊🏼
That Hocking Hills area was pretty magical; thanks for the views!

That’s the most amazing place I’ve seen so far
You are lucky you made it through on Friday. On the weekends, it is even busier AFTER it rains!

Yep, passed Pike and about to enter Shawnee

Yes generally it is the 100th meridian
Ok, so somewhere mid Kansas? Thats good to know

Welp, Hocking Hills State Park just got added to my future Ohio vacation plans.
Best travelog of the Hocking Hills I've ever seen!
Really enjoyed the waterfalls 😎✌️
wow was not expecting that really nice
Only commenting two words this time : SPECTACULAR & BEAUTIFUL .
A nice section! Friends that own a campground in southern MO saw the Aurora!

Great video love that canyon
What an unexpected and beautiful part of Ohio... amazing
That was great and beautiful park.
Your hiking trip doing great l see.
Been watching your video from the first. Thanks
Been going down there for thirty years and Hocking Hills is one of the best state parks around. I will be out there next week. Sorry I missed you!

Day 38. Late lunch watch. Leftover pizza. Great State Park!
What a beautiful hike
Good video. The mild winter leaves a lot more ticks alive. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
5:22 LOL!
beautiful forrest, a bit eerie, but beautiful.

Visit Clifton Gorge in Yellow Springs in the western part of Ohio.
I actually worked for a company out of Dayton, Ohio for a number of years and so I have hiked Clifton Gorge. But it has been a while.
I visited Old Man’s Cave in early March. The steps were icy in the shady spots.

I saw some sign while walking through Blackwater about the West Virginia waterfall trail that I sent to Jen
Trail is similar to Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes region of New York
I had the same thought. I’ve been to Watkins Glen and a few other glens in the Finger Lakes area👍. Native New Yorker and proud of it!😊
Tar Hollow and the area around there is just LOUSY with stinging nettle in the summer.
It seems like you know the rule of thirds in photography.
How accessible would you say Hocking Hills is for beginners with bad knees 😂 Bad idea in December?
There were a good number of stairs but there are enough rails I’d imagine you could make it.
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes awesome!
Can you add things you find to Far Out?
You cannot add them yourself. You have to figure out who partnered with FarOut to provide the map data and convince them to add it.
Or you just take the lazy way and leave a comment at the nearest existing waypoint saying this thing is 4.7 miles westbound
Have you read about Emma Gatewood?
I am aware of the person from when I did the AT and reading the Bill Bryson book. But that’s about it.

Wtf was that all roosters? Are people abandoning roosters in the woods? lol
Whoops! All Roosters is my least favorite cereal. lol
