Whoopi slayed that rapid fire monologue. A pro!
She got her start in spoken word. She did brilliant slam poetry way back in the day.
I remember watching this at 7 years old. I use to be obsessed with the Oscars & Whoopi.
Me too! I would never miss an oscars back in the 90's-00's. It was such an event back then!
She was so amazing, super intelligence, bold on the political jabs, quick on the jokes, you had to be bright to catch some of them. I remember this. So happy to see it.
I'm sad that many of the stars I see in this video I don't ever see anymore today. I miss the 90's cinematic culture.
Wow Whoopi slayed the opening monologue and even threw some shade at David Letterman for hosting the 1995 Oscars, which was very, very, very boring.
THIS. IS. OPENING. MONOLOGUE.
She should be asked to host again!
No thank you. Would love if she had hosted it a couple more times back then, but Whoopi nowadays is a completely different person to the Whoopi of the 80s and 90s.
@@serenaistheb.o.a.t that called maturity, progress growth, knowledgeable, wisdom, understanding etc etc etc.
I love how Oprha totally ignored Tom Cruise while speaking with then wife Nicole Kidman!
That entire red carpet was taped and edited. And later aired as the intro. I'm sure Oprah said hello to Tom Cruise, but Kidman was a nominee, so he was left out of the edit.
One thing that has not changed: Nicole Kidman still slaying it on the red carpet! ⚡
One of the strongest years. I was rooting for Sharon Stone and her amazing acting in Casino but Susan Sarandon deserved it
omg Pierce Brosnan looks so hot!!
Enrique Munguia fuck yeah he is pure beauty and class personified
Whoopi is hilarious as usual, but what stuck out to me was how some of the "Stars" were treating Oprah like she was an annoying bum begging for change in the interviews. Now she can buy all of their careers!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
LittleJ1576 she can buy their careers, their whole families and have a lot more change 😂😂😂
She still is an annoying, pathetic bum and one of the most irrelevant people in history.
In 1996 she could buy their careers already. She was already appearing on the lists of both the most influential and the richest people of the planet.
goodness! they had her host so many times! such a gem.
Of the 4 times Whoopi hosted, this was her finest hour.
I was born in '94 but by just watching this makes me miss the 90s.
Back when Oscar fashion was classy and glamorous. The actors and actresses looked wonderful.
I do still think Sense and Sensibility should had won in more categories
I loveeee Whoopiii. Shes an amazing host.
That moment when Tom Cruise was just starting to buzz and Oprah totally ignored her.
I Love how Winona appears so much, Oh and Nicole is just stunning...
Omg watching this in 2017 is like peeking from a time warp. I was born in 1996, and it feels surreal. The couples attending together, Brad Pitt & Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman & Tom Cruise, Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins, how many people still remember they were once together? Mel Gibson and Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson seemed so young. Oprah doing red carpet interview? And seeing Jackie Chan is definitely a pleasant surprise!
I demand Whoopi to return as host in the oscars!..
Man the 90's bring me back, I was 16 then and realize now we were sold into celebrity culture like Rumplestilskin's collateral.
whoopi is gorgeous
Whoopis jewelery is amazing !❤❤❤❤
Pleeeease get her to host the 87th Academy Awards! She would be perfect! If not bring back Ellen Degeneres ;)
On quincy jones changing the title of Apollo 13....
"Whitney HOUSTON, WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM!"
LOL LOL LOL
I miss the 90s so much. What a fabulous decade, I was living in. Always enjoyed watching the Academy Awards back in those days. Still watch them.
I love how confident Whoopi was here
Oprah was a red carpet interviewer! :D
I miss this opening! Music from my favorite movie!
Hard to believe 20 years ago looks so dam old...
She is simply gorgeous !
I've been waiting for this! Whoopi went IN on everybody. So funny. Thanks for uploading this!
The announcer called Laura Dern an Oscar winner at 1:22...which she wasn’t. Fast forward 24 years later & she got it 🏆
WOW, that's the year when "Colors of the wind" was a still brandnew song ..
I wish the award shows were still this grand
OfficialKingcofield Grand ole days Indeed!!..speaking of Grand, enter Vanessa Williams on that Red Carpet geesh
wow, a Keith Richards "dead man walking" joke...22 years ago lmao
Omg. Kate winslet.
Who are those 2 bored girls in the front row??? Did one of them bring a book? LMAO
I just love Whoopi so much
Imagine having to make those people laugh in a formal event she's a living legend..
wow - back before Oprah became a VIP of these award shows.
I strolled in on the red carpet and right when I passed Oprah, a whole phalanx of photographers snapped pictures of her. I ended up in the pictures which can be seen in her fashion pictures where she is wearing this stunning dress.
That Pat Buchanan joke is an all timer
I love the way Oprah ignores Tom cruise and all her conversations with beautiful Australian Nicole
It’s funny how only a few of those couples are still together. Awesome job Whoopy
I like how Whoopi did two nods to last year, did you miss me, reference to Letterman bombing with the audience, and the Uma Oprah joke from last year.
at 6:48 is perfection.
Nicolas Cage , Jim Carey and Brittany Murphy is fucking beautiful.
R.I.P Brittany Murphy
Where is Brittany Murphy? The girl that Nicolas Cage is with is Patricia Arquette
The 68th Academy Awards was excellently produced. I miss that quality.
I remember this year because Christopher Reeve made a surprise appearance and received a lengthy ovation.
*LOOOOL all those ribbons!!! Haha* 😂😂😂😂😂
Still watching this. 2018. :)
Lol, time goes by so fast, didn't realize some of the movies mentioned were from 1996 and that's 23 years ago lol.
The 68th Oscar telecast was the first one in 7 years that Bill Conti did not serve as musical director; Jazz musician Tom Scott held those duties instead.
Did they say "Oscar winner Laura Dern"? They were about 24 years too early. 😂
Hey this version of oscar is so much more enjoyable!
Wow Goldie Hawn looks gorgeous
you can tell celebs are trained now to answer red carpet questions.
1:53 Winona Ryder looks like late 20's-early 30's fashionista 👍👍
9:29 a clear reference to last year when Letterman emcees the Oscars
These were uploaded way back in 2013. And I couldn't find these back then. Why the heck are these showing up in my recommendations alluva sudden?
Ohh, how time flies!
I miss those Oscar awards with hosts so talent
I lived all whoopi's hosting gigs
Despite I didn't agree with some awards that year, I swear that ceremony was the best one of Oscar history in terms of show, party and everything else.
In case you were wondering, the ceremony starts at 6:20
i feel sooooo old
1:20 I think Laura Dern doesn't have an Oscar...
I thought she got one in 1992(before that video) but she was only nominated and one in 2015 but situation is same, mb.
@@szymonszrajer3281 Dern has two Academy Award nominations:
1992 _Rambling Rose_ Best Actress
2015 _Wild_ Best Supporting Actress
Just pure nostalgia for me
Wow there were a lot of great actors that year!
I miss the 90s I love this!
They should have got Whoopi this year (2019).
Oprah was so stunning. Future Oscar winners who were "hidden figures with talent" sitting next to their husbands: Nicole Kidman and Patricia Arquette. RIP Kelly Preston
It looks like whoopi and Sharon stone wearing the same earrings. My first oscars ive watched by the way
"Cool and professional Naomi Campbell?" If only whoever wrote that could have seen the future.
Bring back this Whoopi. She's good as a host for the show.
Wow. Tom Cruise cutting through camera shot with his back to Oprah while she was interviewing Nicole!
Mannn times have changed. I wanna go back to 90s 😭
Where's the Opening or red carpet showing of the 1991 Academy Awards?
10:20 Oh my god I love this womans whole energy it's pure Gold❤
Omg this is great to watch during covid19. Everyone so young!!
I remember watching this when I was in college - ye gods, I’m old. To be honest, this was back when Oscars was REALLY good.
Can anyone tell me who is that lady in white in front seat reading some book ?
I miss THIS Whoopi. She was so vibrant and fresh back in the '80s to early '2000s. Since The View, she's kinda lost it and become miserable.
Ahmad Ali That in no ways erases the fact that she is a dud!
she is farting on live television! She has lost it
20 years ago from when you posted, and now 22. Let's see how (vibrant and fresh) you are when you are 60/62.
Ahmad Ali and that makes her incredibly dull. Involving yourself with politics by only looking a one side over an issue simply kills the admiration fom many. How do you think of all her conservative and right leaning fans feel about it? It's really hard to admire someone when they attack you for your political beliefs.
Winona!!!
I did not want Whoopi to host AT ALL, BUT......I give her high praise when she acknowledged the great work of Gene Siskle [of Siskle & Ebert], when the academy did not include him in their "In Memorium" for this year or the other year she hosted.
I love the dress and necklace.
CTV completely Preempt the E.T. Movie theme music in 1996
wow! one day very soon!
The ceremony itself begins at 6:17
Although this was a weak year for nominees, the show was dynamite! One of the best ever, and Goldberg had a lot to do with that.
06:35 Oh, Meryl! Lovely!
Sarandon and Robbins were never married
And now I gotta ask, who is the one sitting next to Mel Gibson, and the one next to her, that dont clap for ANYTHING Goldberg says? Goldie Hawn and Sharon Stone should have been front row. Goldie Hawn should be front row for ever!!
Back in the day .... when Nicolas Cage was married to Patricia Arquette. Brad Pitt was dating Gwyneth Paltrow. Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman. Susan Sarandon together with her partner Tim Robinson. Emma Thompson was still married to Kenneth Branagh. Mira Sorvino dating Quentin Tarantino. Dude, did I miss anything out?
Russell and Goldie Hunt
@@akiracastillo they are still a couple since 1983
@@vapalaca I saw in different magazine's articles.
Jessica Lange was still with Sam Shepherd.
At least Tom Hanks is still w/ Rita Wilson.
