    Quality work Henry! I realize that the Smuggler is "cooler" and "shreddier", but as an east coast rider with messed up wrists, that Neuron actually makes a lot more sense. A somewhat more upright riding position, with less weight on the wrists, good enough head angle for most trails around here, makes a lot of sense. Good job Canyon for making the dad bike we all should be riding!

    If you want something within that travel range and more decent oriented they have the spectral 125. they definitely designed the neuron as a less aggressive trail bike and the 125 for more aggressive trail riding.

    • @BenSch100
      @BenSch100 Рік тому +2

      I really enjoy riding my Spectral 125 downhill as it is way more capable than the suspension numbers suggest, uphill is ok too but on longer rides with flat terrain it becomes rather painful with the steep STA and the weight on the bars.

    I bought the previous Neuron a few months ago for the sole reason that it was the most XC-iest trail bike I could find/afford. I've only ridden xc bikes for years and years so this thing has more than enough capability for any downhill I'd attempt. What is appealing about the new one is Henry said it's not as soft and squishy (waterbed) as my generation which can be an issue at times.

    • @flow2tech

  • @AGas1521

    I have a 2021 model Neuron and while it's perfectly fine for the trails I have access to in Oklahoma, it essentially served as a "gateway" bike, but if the Spectral 125 existed then I would have bought it. I'm honestly not sure the point of the Neuron anymore. For me, it was my first full suspension and served me well, but as soon as I felt confident on steeper trails and more technical trails I realized just how incapable it really was. The old one suffered from an ability to keep the rear wheels on the ground. The suspension was stiff, the rear wheel spun any time I put power down on a technical climb, and any slightly rocky decent was just a washboard. I'm sure I could have spent more time tuning the suspension, but I went to a 170 mil enduro bike last fall and I'm not turning back. It's just as fast on my local, flat trails, but it's even more comfortable and WAY more capable when the trail points down.
    Love the new style of videos, keep that up!

    • @AGas1521
      @AGas1521 Рік тому

      @@diorite81 You're not wrong. However, in my personal experience the outgoing Neuron just wasn't as capable on really anything I rode as my bigger travel bike. Could be that my bike fitness and riding skills are improved and I'm not giving it a fair shake, but that's my experience. Really what I was trying to say is that I hope the new one has solved many of the issues that the old one had that caused me to choose my "less appropriate" bike for certain trails.

      @@godspeed821 Good question. I'm curious why you think it's amazing. For me the geo is too focused on comfort and stability over speed and efficiency. The spec I have is heavy, the suspension way too soft, spongy, and inefficient. It's a pig. What sticks out to you with your experience?

    • @godspeed821
      @godspeed821 Рік тому

      @@GiovaniUrrutia hm that's weird because neuron bikes are usually pretty light. you can adjust the suspension to your liking, I'm guessing you didn't set up the suspension to fit ur style, air/rebound and that stuff, or maybe it needs servicing? I haven't ridden a lot of bikes really but the neuron im riding (Neuron AL 7.0 SL) does everything well, be it climbing or descending. I've ridden it for almost a year now and it's still in a perfect condition like the first day. not sure if there's a big difference between 2020 and 2018 models, did you pay attention to bike specs and geometry before you bought it?

    Thank you for taking the time to explain geo numbers as a whole ecosystem (everything effects everything). It seems like everyone wants extreme metrics when really a good TRAIL bike is … well as Henry put it balanced.
    Most of joe public looks at a couple key geo numbers in isolation, and manufacturers feel compelled to follow consumer trends - even when they dont make sense. By producing more content like this, hopefully consumers will better understand not to chase this or that seat tube angle. That way manufacturers can get back to building trail bikes that make sense and not build bikes that pander to consumers who think they know what good geo looks like. The future looks bright because i dont want my trail bike to have a 79 degree seat tube and a 64 degree head tube. If i wanted that, id buy an enduro bike.

    For the Oregon Coast Range I own an aluminum 2020 Commencal Meta (SRAM GX).
    For Southern Thailand with a combination of flatness and crazy singletrack I own a carbon fiber 2019 Neuron (Shimano XT).
    One leans towards enduro and the other towards XC. And I don't want to make one into the other. Love them both.
    P.S. Guess which one I tore my rotator cuff with - surgery next week!

    Problem with transition is the price. Neuron is so much cheaper. For the price of an entry alloy bike you get top of the line carbon bike. You can change grip damper and rear shock and you can buy another bike next year if you don't like colours this year🤣

    I don't like what they did with the sizing. I have the 2022 Neuron and I just barely fit on size L, meaning my seatpost is basically all the way in. The seat tube length was one of the issues with the old frame, just too long. So they shortened it, but then also put on longer dropper posts, meaning the actual saddle height goes up. For the 2023 Neuron I would have to go with size M, maybe that would be OK as the bike is much longer. Alternatively on Size L, I would have to swap the dropper for a shorter one.
