Conversational English is a must have in Singapore because we have other races and not all have studied Chinese as 2nd language in school. Even among Chinese Singaporeans, many of us are Jiak Kangtang type and also cannot converse well in Mandarin even though we were taught at least 10 years of Chinese in school. So don’t feel hurt or paiseh if someone asks for another customer service staff who can speak English. You are doing well. Keep it up.
Why we know pronotion very fast is because .. we were educate to save and as time progress in lives... sg became most expensive... and so. We also learn to save and find or wait for promo... as sg is small. And expensive. We. Became most value added.. So to say why i suggest this is when i see others form other country came to work in sg then take tgis for granted. Eg water cause in their country. Water is cheap so the waste water down here.. Many from bangla india or philipine they get better choices here . And because of the they became big head but cause. Sg is small and many international deal is make by THEM So we. Suffer. ..
Hello Jayden, I used to tutor a Taiwanese teenager in English and would like to make a suggestion on how to improve your English. And I mean standard English, not Singaporean English or Singlish. I say that because if you speak to English-speaking foreigners, they may have a hard time understanding Singlish. To be professional, standard English is the way to go. My suggestion: work on grammar!! You may pick up vocabulary from your environment as you get used to speaking English, but I think people continue to speak broken English all their lives because they know nothing about grammar! Invest a little bit of time. Buy an English assessment book for say, primary 1 kids or if it's too easy, whichever level you find you are getting the answers wrong to. Just do the multiple choice sections on grammar - present tense, past tense etc, singular, plural, subject-verb agreement etc. See how you score! Learn from your mistakes and you will get the hang of English grammar! No broken English! You see, Chinese is quite different. It does not have past and present tense for instance. People whose mother tongue is Chinese tend to translate word for word from Chinese to English, which results in broken English because in English, the sentence structure is different. So you may keep speaking English and improve on your knowledge of words but if you don't know the BASICS, that is, grammar, how would you improve? One could just keep speaking the same way their entire life, not knowing their mistakes. Anyway, sorry for rambling on lol. Good luck and have fun learning!!

台湾朋友你好！其实你在新加坡做服务业员应该是没问题的，只是英文上可能你加倍的努力去学习更好的英语，当然中文对你肯定是OK。当然我们新加坡人都是注重在讲英语，其实也有一些顾客他们也是会讲华浯的，除非你开口跟他说华语应该是没问题。当然有时你会听到一些顾客跟你讲英语，你必须要与英语的回复，因为他们要的是你的服务与语言，他们也会尊重的回复你OK，谢谢。

下班以外的时间，不妨多读英语书刊、多“逼自己”主动用英语和别人交流。告诉对方你正在努力学习学好英语。对方或许会体谅而且也可能会帮你纠正错误。
再来是，你也可以多看亚洲新闻台 (Channel NewsAsia)的电视新闻节目，观摩主播们播报新闻时的英语咬字发音。
我们新加坡人的教育系统用的是英国英语 (British English)。多看本地英语报章杂志有助于你的English spelling和grammar。不会的英文字就去翻查中英文字典吧！慢慢来。久而久之，你的英语词句就会变得完整无误。说英语的能力也就会变得越来越流利。
你要记得哦：Singlish (新加坡式英语)只能在下班休闲时刻使用，工作上就必须使用标准英语和你的顾客、同事交谈。
