    Good hints, but you are totally ignoring the biggest market ever, which is selling the same product in different variations.
    It is true, selling a unique product is best, but remember, this is highly difficult to find and it requires a lot of investment compared to existing products.
    So you address only one type of sellers, those with enough capital to afford unique one of kind products.
    In this regard, you do not address the majority.
    Apart from that, your advise regarding the profit percentage and minimum sale price are very true and accurate.

Are you improving the products which belong to you or the ones you found using the Helium or other tools? When you are improving a product don't you have to pay the royalty to the patents holders or file at least a design patent? Otherwise it's sounds like a piracy and somebody eventually can go after you. Don't you think so?

  • @nasirmahmood2397
    @nasirmahmood2397 3 роки тому

    Dan in one of your video, (perhaps more than once) I heard you mention $2 as shipping cost per piece of most of the items you mention, however, whenever I inquire about shipping cost of most of the products, it has never been less than 5 to 6 dollars per piece from China to USA, no matter what size the product is that I am investigating.

    • @DanRodgers
      @DanRodgers 3 роки тому

      Nasir good point! This has definitely increased, actually doubled recently, so where it would be $1.50 - $2.50 for a smallish item in bulk, now it's more like $3 - $5 for the same. That said, prices have also gone up, due to this and inflation so it gives you a bit of room to sink it in as well. They are very high and should return to more normal levels as the carriers return to more normal operations.

    Hi Dan, thank you so much for a great video! I have a question about looking at analyzing product reviews - what if most product reviews are complaints about the product having poor quality and don't reveal much about what the customer truly wants? Other than looking at products frequently bought together and product reviews, what are other strategies you use to understand the customer and what they want? Thanks!

    • @DanRodgers
      @DanRodgers 4 роки тому +2

      Hey Trisha! You got it :)
      On this, firstly, the customers are telling you they want better quality so you could look to create a higher quality item at a higher price point and with time, your good reviews VS the rest of the market's bad reviews, would see you good sales.
      Secondly, other than FBT and reviews, you can also:
      - Find your ideal customer in real life and ask them, better yet, ask a few and compile exactly what they desire most.
      - Find where your customer hangs out online (pinterest, FB, Instagram etc) and then scan those areas for both ideas and sentiment towards certain types of products. You can also ask them here. Forums are also ideal.
      - Look at supplier websites of this type of product, what other variants are there. Are some only in certain countries but would be well-accepted in yours? Are there versions that solve certain issues? Versions that aren't on Amazon yet? In your case, are there also higher quality versions?
      These are some ways you can establish what the customer wants. The fastest most accurate way will be to find them and then ask them :)

    Hi Dan,
    I am a big fan of your videos. I am just getting started and have been stuck in the product research phase.
    At 4:08 you say to look for products with max reviews of 300. I understand that the aim is product differentiation and segmentation, however if this is a high demand product, there are likely many listings that have say 1000+ reviews. Is there any limit of high review listings that you would set?
    Also, is this $30K listing type in the high demand space something you would recommend for someone just starting out or is it better to first try something in a smaller niche like as shown in your $10K listing video?

    • @DanRodgers
      @DanRodgers 4 роки тому +2

      Hey Andy! The review limit is one of my least favorite criteria as I feel it comes down more to what exists currently and how much you can innovate.
      If you innovate enough, then existing reviews won't matter. Sort of like, if an iPhone 12 comes out, it does not matter how many reviews the iPhone 11 had, people choose the 12 for reasons other than reviews.
      So don't get stuck on the review limit thing, 300 or 500 can be a decent level just so you can find some reasonably new products selling extremely well in the area.
      On your second question. I believe more strongly in trying to build fewer but very strong, fast-turning products. This allows more focus and fewer bits and pieces all over the place. However, you can never predict how well a product will end up doing so if I were you, I would focus on the 30K strategy and flex criteria when needed if you get stuck. Aiming high (eg 30k) and falling a bit short (15k) is better than aiming lower (10k) and falling even shorter (5k).
      Also, building any product takes a lot of time, so rather spend that time building something you really feel could bring very decent revenue and profits.

    • @andyglascodine836
      @andyglascodine836 4 роки тому

      @@DanRodgers Thanks Dan. It sounds like you're pretty much saying the sky is the limit and you can sell whatever you want then as long as people are still buying the listings with lower reviews or is that not the case?
      How do you know if the market for a product is just too competitive even with innovation?

    Hi Dan, how reliable is the Helium 10 profit calculator where it says margin %?

    • @DanRodgers
      @DanRodgers 5 років тому +2

      Hey Mira, this is my favorite profit calculator and I find it quite accurate on FBA fees and Amazon fees, the only parts I would double-check is product cost and shipping per unit.
      1) You can check Alibaba for manuf cost
      2) On Alibaba, find a supplier with carton size, weight and units per carton present on the listing (usually just below the product image once clicked into their listing) and then head over to Freightos.com for a shipping quote.
      Alternatively to Freightos quotes, you can just be conservative and add $1 - $2 to the product cost if the product is small to cover shipping estimates and then set the shipping aspect to 0.
      These are very rough guides for fast research, of course you want to be more accurate when you've narrowed down.

    Shoddy ideas. Segmentation results in cutting the demand! This is very unprofessional video. Price determines demand. Value determines strong customer base. What this guy talking about?

    • @DanRodgers
      @DanRodgers 3 роки тому +2

      Hi Gisele, I like that you don't like my ideas. Good to hear an alternative viewpoint.
      You are correct in that segmentation will cut demand. Not segmenting/specializing will leave you in a higher demand area, it will also leave you in a higher competition area. In long-standing Amazon markets, you will face large review counts here and need an extensive marketing budget, but, yes, that's the way to go if your aim is exclusively to sell in the highest demand area possible.
      Yes, while many price-conscious consumers will always buy the lowest priced product, I don't fully agree on price always determining demand, otherwise people would not buy iPhones at the rate they do, they'd buy cheap phones. Additionally, lower priced items are often lower quality, meaning those consumers return them and go with a higher priced, higher quality product. In this way price is also a determinant of quality (additional value) for consumers.
      It's also been shown in a lot of studies that when there are 3 escalating price points, a significant percentage of consumers tend to choose the middle rather than the bottom.
