Romania's staging for Eurovision 2023 was done by TVR, not Theodor. TVR didn't even involve Theodor in the making of the staging, the delegation sidelined him and refused to listen to any of his ideas. The HoD (I believe) even threatened to sue Theodore's mother for him making the video for D.G.T. Also the dancer was his girlfriend.

Ok that makes even more sense! It's such a shame to hear that though, I know some delegations can be very restrictive but that sounds horrendous

Crime 11: giving Finland 4th place in jury votes. CCC isn’t a jury friendly song at all and yet he got so many points ?
I don’t argue that CCC is a great song but it’s not a great Jury song, It realistically don’t even deserve top 10 jury
France, Spain, Austria they all deserve way more points than Käärijä does.

    • @markhere631

That's a valid take, I think a lot of people blame the juries for his loss (which is partly true ofc) but a lot of us forget how well he actually did with them - Spain, France, and Austria absolutely should've gotten more jury points

If an entry is truly outstanding it will receive a high jury score even if it isn't conventionally jury-friendly. There are countless examples.

It's actually so interesting to listen to you! I absolutely love how you talk about your opinion and I absolutely agree with you. Like, I didn't watch Eurovision for really long time and I watched it only this year so the first thing that made me upset was the fact that Sweden chose Loreen even if they had more original songs (it's only my opinion, I'm a fan of rock music so I prefer something like Smash Into Pieces) but it's actually the reason why I noticed Joker Out so I'm not upset about it now
And yeah, the fact that Slovenia was robbed. They're one of my favorite bands nowand I really hoped they would do better but... 21st place? Really?

      Smash Into Pieces >>>>
And thanks! This was fun to make even if it opened a lot of old wounds (like HOW did Joker Out not make the top 10)
The results this year were probably the furthest from the fandom's rankings that we've seen in a while - but thankfully Joker Out seems to be gaining a lot more attention worldwide! They would be so great to see live someday

Yeah myself and so many people were calling her a potential jury winner only for her to land 10th... but like I said I think the jury were playing it a little too safe this year
Hope Spain and other countries aren't discouraged from sending culturally significant or 'risky' entries in the future

What I realized recently was that in 2021 the juries were a bit more "divided" between Malta, Switzerland and France so their 12 points were shared among these entries, while Sweden 2023 gathered a lot of 12 points and the rest (12 points) were scattered around.
So, it was a bit easier for Måneskin to rise, compared to Käärijä. Also, Loreen got a lot of points from the televoting. 😮‍💨
I also loved LOTL and Joker Out. They deserved so much better than that.

    10. ... so are we just going to forget about grande amore 2015? just because we didn't actually realise until the full scores were published that italy literally got 366 points, 87 points above sweden who finished 3rd with the televote. and italy would have comfortably been 2nd (sweden got 363 points from the juries and italy were 6th yes 6th with them) - and i don't see anyone complaining there do i? finland were my winner before you come for me, i love the song and i don't think there will ever be a song like it at the contest, but stuff like this happens. juries need reform, of course they do, and lots of it, but it's not like loreen came 4th or 5th with the public - then there's questions that need to be asked. but she came 2nd (and please don't give the whole she got no 12s argument, bcos it doesn't matter as long as you're getting points).
    9. i love evidenment to no end, but that staging was horrific - one of the worst of the night along with the uk. plus her vocals were off, and therefore 16th kinda makes sense, even though like you said she should have been nowhere near down there
    8. don't think i can add to this, perfectly said
    7. hmm.... i think they made it work well, even though i obvs would have preferred the sofa being there and the nf staging as a whole. she was destined to flop going 2nd anyway so i guess it doesn't really matter
    6. i genuinely thought germany could have got top 10 this year with the public, and yeah... i honestly don't know what germany need to do now to get off the bottom
    5. here's something that might change your perspective on this, remember that the jury points are an average ranking of the 4/5 members. and thus to get a high score you don't need to be top of everyone's list. i think she was for 1 or 2 juries, but there were quite a few who all had her around 6th-10th, which a lot of fans would say is the right placing for the song, and yet she got 12 points from that country because no-one tanked it. call tattoo boring, but there's nothing wrong with it per se (and everyone will admit that), and in terms of jury votes the safer you are the better, because you are less likely to get tanked by a jury member and therefore more likely to get a lot of points because you're in that 6th-10th area with everyone. by contrast, with finland, lots of people had kaarija in their top 5, but a LOT of people also had him bottom 5, and thus he got tanked and didn't get a lot of points (even though 4th place is probably where i thought he would finish with them, if not slightly higher)
    4. diaspora votes, what can i say. they're always inflated in the final bcos more casuals watch the final, so it always why poland and lithuania are going to do at least decently with the public no matter how bad the song is. plus it just is a catchy song, there's no getting past that, and 95% of the audience didn't have a clue what happened in the nf
    3. i'm sorry, but you literally said it, JURIES would have made it qualify. and yet we're slamming those same juries for giving loreen as many points as they did. smh... anyway as for aija, yeah it comfortably would have qualified at the expense of serbia, but i love serbia's song so i would have been devastated if it qualified. but then again, croatia only got 8th with the public, so if they got 0-5 points from the juries, then maybe they might not have qualified?
    2. i saw spain flopping from a mile off, it was always TOO different for the public to appreciate from just one listen to it. i mean i don't like the song (ofc i appreciate it but it's just not for me), but i am kinda surprised to see it do as bad as it did, like only 5 points from the public, and those points coming from portugal and the rotw (so latinas basically) says it all really.
    1. you kinda touched on this with bejba, so yeah

The first point is just plain stupid. Ever since the line up for this year was confirmed, everyone knew that tattoo would landslide the juries and that ccc would win the televote convincingly. If you looked at the odds, tattoo had a 60% chance of winning the juries. Everyone knew that the only thing stopping loreens 2nd victory would be if CCC got a surprisingly good result woth the juries. For MONTHS people were saying this, so how was it shocking? It just exposes you as someone who doesn’t follow the contest closely enough during the build up

  • @dimidrugg9592

    My opinions:
*10.* In a few words: *juries are ruining Eurovision.* Eurovision is supposed to be a music show for the wide audience, and since that show is a competition and includes the declaration of a winner at the end, that winner must be chosen *by the same audience.* Finland 2023 might not be the first televoting winner which does not take the trophy home, but it got an overwhelming score of 376 points with a margin of 133 points, so there is no doubt it was *the only rightful winner* (no matter what annoying Loreen fans say).
Of course Ukraine 2022 got even more televoting points, but they were not the right winners because that was for non-musical reasons. Just in case someone replies "bUt TeLeVoTiNg IsN't AlWaYs RiGhT, rEmEmBeR lAsT yEaR?". In conclusion, juries need to be reformed immediately, otherwise Eurovision will slowly lose its fans. I honestly don't care about results anymore after this and I don't think I will ever get over the robbery of 'Cha Cha Cha'.
*9.* France was never going to be in top 10 with that song and performance. Sorry, but I always found this slightly overhyped. Also La Zarra's reaction to her televoting score was disrespectful.
*8.* This was never going to do well because the fandom hated it. The sad thing is that it was wasted potential.
*7.* Agree, though the running order mostly screwed Portugal this year. This unfortunately relied solely on Mimicat's delivery.
*6.* I felt bad for Germany getting another last place despite improving from previous years, but I wouldn't say that was completely underserved (there was still Poland though...). At least they did not get a 0 this year from either voting group.
*5.* Nothing to add here. Juries were like "it's Loreen from 'Euphoria', so this must be as good". It's even more ridiculous considering 'Tattoo' got 0 top marks from the televoting.
*4.* Poland coming 8th in televoting perfectly portrays why we need juries. People tend to vote for politics, fireworks, memes etc. and rarely for music & talent. One of the inherent flaws of Eurovision.
*3.* Just read my previous opinion. 'Aijā' had none of that, so of course it wouldn't survive in a televoting only semifinal (it was 3 points away though). The absolute most underappreciated Eurovision entry ever. I cried when this didn't qualify.
*2.* The results this year were generally terrible. Not only did Spain's masterpiece get only 5 televoting points (I already explained why), but Croatia and Poland were in televoting top 10, and Slovenia & Serbia came in bottom 6 with two of their best entries ever. Armenia & Austria also deserved top 10.
*1.* I might be the only fan who never cared about this. 'Gladiator' is definitely a more interesting song than Bejbah, but I find it very overrated by the fandom and it wouldn't have done as well as people think it would.
Another crime which I want to mention is *Croatia qualifying* and then getting 7th place in the televoting. I'm disappointed that people are willing to vote for anything that makes noise on stage no matter how low the musical quality is.

Now THESE are hot takes, but I actually agree with a lot of them, and totally see where you're coming from for the rest
I've seen a lot of people saying abolish the juries, but like you said I think a reform is what's needed.
The results this year were so far from what any of us expected (but then again, the fandom is only a fraction of the total viewers of ESC), and I can only imagine what next year is gonna look like if things don't change
