Ageojoe dominated this tournament because he did things that nobody expects. Everyone has played against a Wesker/Magneto/Dr. Doom team a billion times in North America but nobody knows what the heck to do when confronted with Viewtiful Joe or Rocket Raccoon. Kudos to that winning strategy.
I still come back to this video just because of the pure hype that Kusoru instilled in that room when he dodge-rolled and Mega-Man anti-air Super'd Dark Phoenix transformation. Hype so loud the mic cut out from the noise. So awesome.
That's exactly what I'm doing now haha
And I'm back here again. I think I watch this a few times a year. Love that moment. Never fails to put a smile on my face.

The phoenix moment was actually more complicated than it might appear. Both the roll and the Funny Face Crusher needed a level 3 frank for it to be available. At 1:51 Frank had 13 points to level him up to level 2. He needed 7 more points for the level 3. He BARELY made it at 2:37 with the 8 hit combo which is RIGHT BEFORE the Dark Phoenix rising. Beautiful play if i do say so myself.

at lv3 or higher, Frank gains a mostly invincible roll which can be used to "cancel" out of certain moves in order to make them less punishable. He x-factored in order to cancel the ending lag of the shopping cart super, used the roll to escape the fire that comes out when Phoenix transforms, and well used the air super
Coming in 11 years late to the party, but you only need lvl 2 Frank in order to use the dodge ability, lvl 3 is when he gets access to the funny face crusher anti-air hyper.
This is probably one of the best technologies in UMVC3. Too good!

Honestly though, i have watch this fight countless time already and it still got me everytime ........ like "DAmnnnn!" that's soooo good. I believe that any other players and champ himself till this day still cannot bring themselves to get mad at kusoru in this match. He pull off the epic shit not once but twice...... Well deserve win.

This is the kinda fighter I look up to. The kind that says "Fuck tiers" and takes people out with the "weaklings" of the game. Seriously, the simply fact that you so rarely see Viewtiful Joe, Rocket Racoon, and Frank West gives you and advantage because so few people know what their tactics are and even few know how to counter it.
Kusoru was definitely ahead of his time

One of the first anti phoenix techs I had seen, I was blown the fuck away, still to this day I come back to see this, thanks AGEOJOE.
its absolutely amazing how much the meta has changed and the way marvel is played now. "Frank west is a very strong character" "leveld up frank west is probably one of the best characters in the game"
the game evolved soooo much.
Level 4/5 frank is still probably top 5-10. Problem is you only really had readman(fizzycups) putting the time and traveling in.
As the other guy said it comes down to how much you need to invest to be able to get level 4/5. Level 5 Frank is extremely strong, especially paired with Dante Jam Session assist. Its just not worth it to need to craft your emtire team around Frank when you could just run like Vergil anchor and ez wipe a whole team with level 3 x in 15 seconds.
Also the only other Frank West main i can even think of that didnt move on from the character was the Canadian player BBall? But as far as i remember he didnt travel much and i only really saw him play Canada Cup. No idea if he still plays.
This has to be the most explosive match I've ever seen. Much love to the Japan players and Japan.

Kusoru got thru Champ, Combofiend, Mihe, Flocker, Yipes and PR Rog in this tournament. Impressive and fun to watch.

Its been a decade. I don't even play marvel. But this match is so good, I came back to watch it.
@daihaksu that's why you're playing a keep away game. use mag to blow up racoon full screen. dorms large hitbox makes people trigger happy, hell probably more trigger happy once you have log assist. use that to bait log and counter call mag assist and you can stuff log before it comes out. and dorm just blows up joe if all joe is doing is super and double/triple jumps while fishing. just throw out a run ball and do pillar/black holes with doom miss and chip away.
That anti-Phoenix maneuver with Frank West was sooooooooo sick.
He can cover wars AND the face of limitless power!

@hogtownbro he immediately x-factored then did a roll. The roll has invincibility meaning you can't get hit when Phoenix transforms. He then immediately did the super offering no way out for Phoenix. If he had done anything differently (meaning not x-factor, not roll, not super), it wouldn't have worked and Joe would've lost. It was just a genius strategic play that no one saw coming.
First marvel match i've watched in a while,glad i did.
The imagination in that combo to kill Dark Phoenix was amazing. That's on the fly intuitiveness. Amazing stuff Ageojoe

多分全員弱い扱いを受けてた
キャラランクとは違うけど、クソル側使用キャラの雑感はこんな感じ。
1人目：ビューティフルジョー
小さい癖に標準的な体力を持ちつつ、持ち前の身軽さを活かした面倒な動きと高いシューティング能力がウリ。
ただその小ささ故にリーチが短いわ火力が伸びないわと魅せる事は出来ても倒すのは苦手だったり…
なら機動力高くてシューティング能力も備えたマグニート使えばよくね？
2人目：フランク・ウェスト
素の状態では特徴の無いただの弱キャラだが、Lvを上げていくとかなり強くなる。
逆に言えばLvが上がらないと貧弱そのもの、Lv1でそのまま退場なんて日常茶飯事。
だったらゲージさえ残していれば確実に変身してフランクより強くなるフェニックスでよくね？
3人目：ロケットラクーン
ペンデュラムこと"丸太"を筆頭に技は強くアシストとしては優秀ではあるが、
体力は最低クラス、リーチ短い、ゲージ依存率高めとかなり使いにくい。
正直これ使うならアシストも強いDrドゥーム練習すればよくね？
因みに言うまでもない事かもしれんけど、Filipino Champの使用キャラは
マグニート・フェニックス・Drドゥームの三人
中間ところがマークされていないマイナーキャラばっか、特にロケットは当時でもよっぽどのマーベルオタクでもなければアメリカでもなにこいつ?の扱い

So he inched forward onto the trap as Champ was flying away. The teleport behind put him too close to even crouching light, gets caught unaware he was so close, and dies for it. Very very very smart play.

Even if it was best 2/3, still one of my favourite marvel matches ever played. Maybe just fighting game match in general.
Depends what you mean by that, ive played fighters since i was a small kid. However i didnt start paying attention to people who went to tourneys until just this summer.

@hogtownbro He used Frank West Super which has a bit of invincibility to avoid Phoenix's explosion effect during her transformation which canceled it and allowed him to capture her for the win. Something never seen round these parts.
@Nekros4442 From the sound of it, I'm guessing he was using HRAP VA 3 since the start button can be pressed accidentally during a match especially when you mash in this game.

@skiie It wasn't necessarily drama, it was more of the fact that he was a little thrown off that people were not congratulating him and, instead, being asked for money matches. He said that people had a lot of pride in this game and it threw him off guard. He never said he didn't want to come back to America either, that's probably an exaggeration. He can't because he doesn't have the funds to make constant trips.
