I saw this in the theater with my sister when it first came out. We had a deal. For every RomCom she dragged me to, I could bring her to a sci fi movie. Event Horizon marketed itself as a space adventure. Dragging my sister to see it was my revenge for her dragging me to see The Truth About Cats and Dogs. Neither of us had any idea what we were getting into (i was 16 at the time and she was 21), and hoo boy. I was mildly traumatized and she declared that she could now drag me to see RomComs any time after what I'd subjected her to. Not sure if it was revenge or not, but she forced me to see *SO MANY* RomComs in the next few years...
I also thought this was an adventure type movie. As it got more gruesome I got more and more nauseated! Eventually I covered my head with a pillow and felt sick for the whole rest of the evening/night!! Horrible!! And not in a good way.
@@Klm49 For me, the problem was always that the violence and gore didn't really add meaningfully to the plot, it felt like it was just there for the shock-value and because some people mistake gorn for sophistication. I love the CONCEPT of hyperspace being this scary, incomprehensible place that can break the human mind into pieces, but Event Horizon just seemed to be way too into its own uglier elements. Like, when Stephen King once wrote a story covering the exact same concept and I say that HE was the subtler of the two, that probably says something lol.
This movie had many creepy and disturbing scenes that all were cut. All because the studio wanted to give it a PG-13 rating... PG-13... to a horror movie. I think that's the main reason this movie failed at the box office. Too bad they never released an extended Director's cut version. Could've been amazing.
"Where we're going, we won't need eyes!" - Not Doc Brown Also, I haven't seen this movie in a while, but seeing those subliminal images of Tommy Wiseau brings it all back with renewed terror...
Apparently test audiences found The Event Horizon ‘too horrifying’ for a horror film and it ended up with more cuts/studio interference than Dr.Weir’s face and the first crew’s scrambled message combined... I love this film to bits (flawed though it is) and loved your review - especially the: “This is what happens when you rub your cat’s belly without permission” comment! (09:50)
I would love to see the original cut of this one , it's so close to being a very good sci-fi horror . I still do enjoy it and Imo is Anderson's best, or at least my favorite from him. Damn cave storage !
I’d love to see the original cut too, which is really something since I’m usually a huge wuss when it comes to horror movies (particularly live-action horror movies).
🤣🤣🤣I love your commentary and editing, i always come out laughing like a fool after your reviews. I highly doubt you will but, i have a request for Flight of The Navigator. I loved it as a child but it hasn't aged well and could do with your type of review, love from the UK 😝
Damn all the edits and jokes were on point this video! Totally worth the wait and perfect for October! Haha the ‘Boom! BOOM’ ‘who’s there?’ Was super funny to me for some reason. And the friends intro was top class! Sad the extra footage were badly stored and lost :(
Love me some spooky ghost ships. Double love space ghost ships, honestly watching this as a kid made me obsessed with space horror video games like doom and dead space. Still wish we could see that deleted footage!
Repo! aww man who knew Anthony Head could sing? I love his character in that movie."...I'm the monster.. I'm the villain..." the rest of the movie well if you are watching it maybe we will get to see your take on it! - Thanks for another great upload. .. my advice is to sleep with the lights on after viewing.
Fun fact; theres a musical episode for buffy the vampire slayer, where anthoy head plays giles the librarian, and there a video of him singing sweet transvestite from the Rocky Horror Show. Also, the guy’s acting carrer is very interesting to say the least lol
i absolutely love your channel, i laugh every time! Your editing skills are popping as well! You need to have waaaay more exposure! I loved this movie and you criticisms are spot on!! We can all enjoy something but know there's a few things wrong with it...like that friend that is just a wee bit "off" ..."Ahhhh, thats Mike being Mike, har-har!"
I love the movie but I live for the end credits the use of the Prodgys the funky shit is Everything and why I might invest in a surround sound system ! A Eargasm at the end of z crazy movie.
The sad thing is that the setup for Event Horizon, a cheesy horror film, is nearly identical to the setup for Ad Astra, a critically acclaimed character study.
@Delta Lima Bravo Ad Astra was pretty good in my opinion, worth the price of admission, but if you remember the exposition dump for Event Horizon, you'll notice some similarities
The scariest part of the movie for me is the very beginning where Sam Neil's character is having his first hallucination. If you look at the monitor as he approaches it, there are 2 eyes on the screen. Not cut out eyes, and not reflections, but almost like...markers, or something. It terrifies me every time I see them.
I recently subscribed to your channel and have enjoin so much that tonight I did a little marathon of your videos and have to say you are among the few channels that I can just set back and watch a random selection of your reviews and thoroughly entertained even by movies I’m already familiar with. You just know how to put a unique and compelling spin. Thanks for being you and keep up the great work.
finally you reviewed event horizon you've been talking about this for like two years since you did the ghost ship review I'm so glad you reviewed both of them I loved them both
Love your review of this movie! It has to be one of my all time favorite sci-fi horror movies and I'm glad you gave it the respect it deserves! 4.5 stars is spot on. I also have another favorite movie with Sam Neill in the genre of fantasy horror called "In the Mouth of Madness". I would love to hear your review of it! Keep up the great work. I've seen a lot of movie reviewers in UA-cam, and you are, by far, my favorite UA-cam movie reviewer yet!
It's worth noting that this movie shares key crewmembers with the 'Alien' franchise (DP Adrian Biddle, costume designer John Mollo etc.. They even hired Ridley-Scott-fanboy Paul W S Anderson to direct). I think they were trying to repeat that film's success.
one of my favorite movies, and oh did I want some miraculously saved source material to let their be a proper director's cut, heck maybe some cgi remastering to make this truly a frightful flight.
I have been binging your videos. You are absolutely fucking hilarious. I thought I was pretty used to your humor - but I choked on my water at the delivery of "Even the doors are toothy." Subscribed, liked, please keep making videos forever I do not feel like cultivating another hobby.
Whoa, great review of this awesome movie. I heard someone laugh when a body dropped on the floor and shattered, I couldn't tell if the laugh was in the movie or outside the movie, the laugh was morbid nonetheless. Great video Bee Man.
This movie always gets me. Sort of like Disney's "The Black Hole" meets "The Shining." A spaceship capable of making its own black hole goes to Hell. What could possibly go wrong?
I saw this in the cinema when i was 13 and expected a sci-fi movie a la star trek. Let's just say that i watched (or not) most of the movie through my fingers. But as an adult i still love this movie. Especially because it's an unofficial warhammer 40k movie. I LOVE 40k and i enjoy to see the movie through that lens.
Thanks for a great review of a "guilty pleasure" movie ! Only one criticism ,the audio kept fluctuating causing my husband to ask " what ARE you wstching!?"

Well if aliens are real and ghosts are real then there must be ghost aliens out there 🤔
Well shit, its even worse than ghosts of chameleons.
Oooo!!!! You nailed it, John Carpenters Ghosts of Mars.
Face hugger ghosts must exist then... *shudders*

Betty White *looks at colleges*

To be honest if a studio turns a horror movie into a PG-13 movie it's going to fail regardless of what they do
Damn you, Paramount! You robbed us of a really good R-rated horror movie!

@@Nesty9 Nope

“Too horrifying”? It’s an R-rated horror movie about Hell! What were they expecting?

Sam Neill is so good in this.I love him portraying someone who goes mental.Like that other movie " In The Mouth Of Madness"
Loved him in the Omen.
He's also pretty slimy in Memoirs Of An Invisible Man
Love your homage to the ‘Friends’ intro 😂 your snarky reviews give me joy
Great review, many people trash this film I think it's an underappreciated classic
I cracked up laughing when you said the part about this is what happens when you rubs a cats belly without permission
Event horizon was a really good movie

I love when we compare thing's to hell like we've been there.
Even if it did exist...'Nobody Is Returning'
The scenes from hell really freaked me out as a kid, if you slow it down there’s some messed up s**t in there
I enjoyed this movie and still Paul Anderson's best movie to date.
*only good movie

A New Bee review!!!! Im in Heaven
All of this could have been avoided if they just remembered to turn on the Gellar Field.
Lovely voice, and silly jokes that make me laugh more than I would like to admit. Nice review.
Love this film. Great review for a great film. The FRIENDS gag is extra funny cause of what happens to everyone!

Great review.. Great channel.
Yo. Once again, Great job NewBee. That Harlem Shake bit was funny a.s.! Keep on creating man, thx.
I love Event Horizon! Along with Dracula Untold!
I really liked the concept behind this movie. A ship that comes back from another dimension and brings hell with it...
