There's a reason why electrical sockets won't disappear anytime soon. The reason: there are many devices that need more than 5v DC. Examples include: space heaters, hairdryers, refrigerators, televisions, fairy lights, and many more.

Fairy lights and televisions I can see, but it probably won't happen. Also, if you have a home EV charger, it will take you several days to charge from 5v DC. Quick edit: I wanted to go into more detail about heaters. They won't get any more efficient than they already are. Electric resistive heaters (the glowing ceramic heaters) convert all of the energy they get into heat through the elements themselves and through the fan, which will release all of its energy as heat. You can not go above 100% efficiency so heaters will not get any smaller or ever be able to run from 5v DC.

Not only are the USB oulets small, convenient and universal; they are also completely unyielding. There is a reason we use adaptors, it can scale down the socket voltage into giving 67 watts (or whatever your phone needs). But, if you do that to the socket itself, everything else that needs a higher power level to work, will stop working. Think about running a refrigerator on a 67 watts power supply; that's one sure way to set your house on fire.

Old-style circuses are now very rare but new ones like these with incredible acrobatics and other astounding, new technology will become more prevalent and will start to travel the world. Not only are the USB oulets small, convenient and universal; they are also completely unyielding.
There is a reason we use adaptors, it can scale down the socket voltage into giving 67 watts (or whatever your phone needs). But, if you do that to the socket itself, everything else that needs a higher power level to work, will stop working. Think about running a refrigerator on a 67 watts power supply; that's one sure way to set your house on fire.

I definitely believe the leds taking over. The outlets? No. Headphones jacks are only disappearing on casual devices. They will still exist with professional audio and video equipment.
