Yes! Modern poetry for poetry thursday!
The idea of Steve reading obtuse 20th Century poems! This is gonna be be comedic gold. I can’t wait to see your face reacting to the lines of a John Ashbery poem 🤣
You are making me jealous Steve. I never see any of those older John Jakes books. I have all of the newer ones from the Kent Family Chronicles to the present but none of the older ones. I wish we had a Brattle here in Iowa. Thanks for sharing your pile of books. Have a great week.
Tell me, does the magnetic virtue of the needle of the compass of the Brattle Bookshop attract Sir Steve of house Donoghue thither?
Father Steve, can we get a Psalm Sunday on Easter, please?
I will get a copy of that Simak “A choice of gods”! Sounds fantastic.
We're in Chicago and found a used bookstore right around the corner where all the books are free! I picked up a mint condition Library of America book of poetry
The Dark Dominion anthology was one of the handful of odd books that were published as companions to the long series of Dark Shadows tie in novels, which were written by Dan Ross, using his wife's name, Marilyn Ross as a pseudonym. The gold background with a picture in an oval livery gives this away. It would be reasonable to suspect that he had a hand in the story selection. I wonder if anyone knows for sure?
That G. E. mitton is available on project Gutenberg with the same illustrations
I only have one ace double that doesn’t fall apart…such a shame. They were great.
The original smaller ones, I have never seen one in a decent condition, if you look at the paper wrong it will crumble…
Hi Steve & Little Miss Frieda, how do you know when a book is a mass market paperback or a trade paperback? Also, why doesn't the Brattle sell romance books?
Darryl K. Sweet, like Robert Jordan, died before he could work on the final Wheel of Time cover. Michael Whelan replaced him.
What a paradox! The paperbacks with monetary value are the ones not read! Personally I thin out my shelves on the basis of I never needed to re-read this, I'll put it in the book recycling bin (there is such a thing where I live). Which leaves the old falling-apart ones
Good for you being honest about your booktube based mood purchasing 😬
The title of this video has me worrying for you, Steve. Surely, the very existence of the Brattle itself is reason enough. Are you feeling quite well?
Ace doubles! I'm always delighted to have one on my shelf! I really need to find more of those in the future!
