Rare Burl Turned into One Of A Kind Table

  • I turn this beautiful Elm burl and sculpt some figured oak to marry the burl and oak together into a desk/table top, and then throw in some epoxy resin.
You’ll learn from my mistakes, and boy did I make a load! I normally only use resin for filling knots in my furniture.

I'm wondering if it is possible to saw a burl in half horizontally, bookmatch the pieces together, then glue the whole to a piece of plywood for strength? It seems a shame to lock up so much beauty in a thick slab. Does anyone shave these burls for veneers?

You actually should be congratulated with the highest praise for finishing the desk in spite of the setbacks. It is a stunning piece of art and deserved all the sweat and tears that went into it. Hi Zach, this was one build that was the straw that broke the camels back, everything that could of gone wrong went wrong, theres about 4+ hours of film on the editing floor that you didn't see, the final edit would of been really long and depressing. I also suffer from depression and man did this build make me low. Reliving it all editing was also tough, was difficult for me to be chipper doing the VO ...c'est la vie.
