Your attention to detail is so valuable to the consumer. Everything you went over was so interesting. I know that part of it is the way you go about it. The KC lights had me cracking up. I was sad the video was over. We will see you in the next one.
I ran LEDs to the factory KC lights that came on the truck and they actually look pretty convincing and backlight well . I used a flexible gorilla glue to hold them in place . I'll probably change them out one day but for now I'll keep them .
@@AMPROEngineering tbh...I don't get it. They started it all with the 3-speeds, that's almost 40 years ago. And somehow I'm the only one with a modified bruiser at the scale course 🤔 But if their only new ideas are buggy chassis at which you have to disassemble half the car in order to change the battery, then maybe its okay the way it is 🤷🏻♂️
I to uncontrollably ordered it, had to. Didn't receive a rear bumper (rear bumper issues ring any bells lol) support took care of me though. Check up close on the hinges for the kc lights, one of mine was put together backwards...if your making your own, put them on the shop and ill snag'em. even a clear lense to go under the yellow cap would be acceptable. ah, I look forward to the mods and vids on this sweet sweet truck. part of me wants to leave it on a shelf.
Its possible they are on wrong but i hate the lights so much I dont even care. Ill have everything on shapeways, I promise! Body mount set is done and now I need to make tail lamps and all the KC lights.
I bought one of these trucks used and mine front bull bar is different. It mounts to the frame and not the body. Also my engine bay is attached to the chassis and not the body like yours.
I fell victim to the same build. Had to check out what you’re doing as I’ll be doing the exact same things. So many things that need attention to make it even more scale. Will be following very closely as I’m anxious to see how you lower yours. I didn’t want to do the axle over leaf with this. Great job as always!
Man the lowering was a problem. I have two other TF2's that I lowered by flipping the axles on top of the leafs but the new front axle has different knuckles that cant be reversed. I think there is a way around it but what I did is swap axles from one of my non-lowered TF2's which worked great since the new axle is stronger. This was just lucky that I happened to have the right part. Ill cover everything though! Wheels are already on it with smaller tires and I love it. New tail lights are coming in and the dash cluster is in development.
Nice video and thanks for the time. Why do you not like the wheels and tires on it? I love the retro look with the Goodyear Tires and wheels. Although I put on some 1.55 slot mags with 4.4 Super Swamper Irok’s on mine. I had to add a 4” lift block up front for tires to clear bumper .
Yes, I used RC4WD Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 1.55 Scale Tires from RC4WD and I made my own wheels. They are here: www.shapeways.com/shops/ampro?section=RC4WD+85+4Runner+and+87+Xtracab&s=0
These are great trucks I’ve noticed with mine some thing are so cheaply made so I replace them parts with the aluminum up grades , can you send me a link on Jenny’ s channel I can’t seem to find her thanks
yah tires have an inward facing bead. Small wheels were a big thing when trucks were really used off road to prevent rock damage to the wheels and to conform to surfaces better under lower pressure too.

1 of the better reviews I seen about this truck as you were the most thorough. I'm torn between this and the new TF3,lol. Incase you decide to get the cchand metal front inner fenders for the 4runner (should work on the xtracab seeing how it's the same front end) don't waste the money. I bought them for my wife's tf2 4runner LE and they don't fit with the scale motor cover and rc4wd doesn't mention this on their website. I hear the saw someone install lexan fenders but they had to cut them to fit the scale motor also. So just a heads up on this if you decide to get them, lol.
Wow thank you for the info! I was planning on getting those! Man you just saved me. So the TF3 seems weird. I do not like what they did with the rear suspension (How the springs are in board) and really dont see many improvements on the trusty TF2. I think i would stay with the TF2 given the wealth of aftermarket parts and known reliability.
@@AMPROEngineering sure thing as I was disappointed in the inner fenders as well but it's all good as I have an extra set of inner fenders incase I do decide to get a TF2 with the xtra cab body. I was thinking the same about the rear suspension on the TF3 but from the 2 or 3 videos made by rc everyday on UA-cam,he seems to like it. He also did a simple suspension mod video and it actually performs pretty well after that.
Hey great vid, just can't stop myself getting hold of one already because of being a true BTTF fan ( have the 1/8 scale DeLorean which is great too). By the way any plans for 3D printing the side mirrors and replace them to a more screen accurate versions from AMPRO which would be great. Very much looking forward for changing the KC lightings esp. the front to square ones and replace those from AMPRO. Please update when it's ready, can't wait for the end result.
Yeah I hear you, I am a huge fan too! I think I will do mirrors if I can get a material strong enough (or flexible) to make it work. I have wheels and body mounts done and tail lights are next.
If I put body post! Use magnets please!! Do NOT put holes in that body. And I agree about the sidewalls of them tires. But I would keep the rims unless u have some just like them but will fit tries a little better. But anyways. Cool video! Cool rig! Can't wait to see the finished product.
Great review. Love this truck because of the bttf nostalgia, like most people. But is it just the camera or are the axles too close to the center of the truck? Like the wheelbase isn’t quite large enough for the body?
The wheelbase is fine but what make it look like that is that there is too much overhang from the bed and the truck is so high with those little tires that it skews everything
The problem with the wheels and tires has to do with Sorca class 1 rules. 1.5” wheels. But they had to put taller 1.9” diameter tires so it looked more accurate. The tires definitely don’t look right. The esc? It’s an unbranded Hobbywing 1060.
You know this is the only one I have not done that to. It is also my only RTR and I dont know if I will. This wont be used like my other TF2's so we shall see!
if it was made to the standard you expect it would cost significantly more.. the point of the crappy tires and skid bars is to get you to spend more money to upgrade it...
I've been looking up some videos for the truck's front marker and turn signal lights, and the correct way should be: lower, smaller, rectangular bumper ones for turn signals only (rest of the time, they're off), and the corner ones next to the headlights as markers (permanent on -although not too bright- with any lights on, otherwise, also off, even when using turn signals). See them here: ua-cam.com/video/-V9lLASMNxI/v-deo.html and listen to the first 30 seconds of the video here for reference: ua-cam.com/video/IxxQh4Pxjkc/v-deo.html Also, please note the silver shroud on the 85s around the headlights on the first vid, not present in this model.
LOL that second video link was the exact one I looked at to see if the corner markers flashed! haha! Great minds. Yeah there is a lot that needs to be done to sort this but little by little.
I dont think these are 1.5" wheels. I run 1.5" wheels on everything that they fit scale wise. This truck now has 1.5" wheels that I printed. Looks perfect.
I would say that the car is for a different application than what many are into. It is extremely scale and as such, isn't nearly as capable as many newer trucks. It is also all metal so it is not as durable since it won't rebound from impacts. Still, for a scale truck, it is the best on the market.
So I love these RC4WD Trail finders but they are not very good crawlers. These are trail trucks and very, very scale. This means they should not be compared to anything 4 linked or something that is mostly plastic. It is mostly metal and very, very heavy so think of this as having scale performance. I hope that helps!
I own several trx4 rigs and 4 RC4wd tf2 rigs including this Marty McFly Toyota and of course the trx4 rigs are easier to crawl with and I really like them but if I had to choose between them I'd keeps my RC4wd tf2s over the Traxxas trucks . Btw they probably don't buy them because they are expensive and take more time to break in ...
Love how you said , if your like me . Yes I had to buy it as well ! It’s a sweet truck , I love it . And will like it even more when my mods are done.
It really is a solid base. I love the TF2 and of course I needed to make some mods.

Chin spoiler. More accurately referred to as a splitter. As it splits the air up over and under the vehicle. Great review as usual. Thanks!
Usually I say splitter when it’s actually going to do splitting, lol! Dunno how useful it’s gonna be on a 4x4. Weird Toyota added it tbh

That’s how those tires really look on a full size vehicle i work on cars most of my life and every set of BFG I mount are like that on real trucks
