I will admit that I was a bit dismissive at first with this album, but after about a week and watching the music videos for fun, I really enjoy this album. I think that the thing that a lot of people are 'turned off' about this album is the instrumentation. Its more EDM/House in comparison to previous albums, but take that element away and the lyrics are still as honest as any other that Lights has produced, where as it reflects where she is at in her life... and it is raw, but utterly amazing. Although I feel like similar to how Siberia was released, recent/newer viewers are thrown off at first glance by the genre shift between albums, whether it is because it is not as 'pop sounding' as The Listening was with Siberias transition was, this is no different after the momentum of Skin and Earth. Lights has always expanded her sound with her music between albums, changing genres and striving towards the next new exciting area of music, which makes her a true artist/musician. She wants to cross-genres and expand not only herself but the way music is limited from a consumers point of view. The way she tackles this feat is honestly a huge reason why I love and respect her as a true artist. While some may be thrown off with this album on initial listen, it is perfectly tuned to who Lights is and has always said she wanted to do in with her career. I love it.
But taking a moment to look at this album along you can easy see that Lights is hurt... She is mad, she has been hurt by someone she deeply cares about and while she wants to make it work with them, they are not allowing a equal playing field for the relationship and it is becoming toxic for her to endure... This song, Outdoor Sports encapsulates the entirety of this album and by god the choice of sound/instrumental for the album is so fitting for the themes and emotion that Lights is going through altogether.feelingpersevering
musicalShe is such an under appreciated artist I feel like, but the amount of detail that she crafts and tunes to her passion in music and her career is utterly
Also this is the best song on the album hands down. The lyrics and repetition is clean and great for commercial and personal replay value in my opinion.
I started listening to her two months ago and I'm so hooked on her songs (that is, I knew her from before by DEADMAU5 and bring me the horizon but it never interested me until I heard the previous collaboration she did with i_o I liked it a lot) although at first It seemed very strange to me that each album sounded very different and I didn't quite like capturing my taste at all, but later if I was completely attracted by their songs, each album is very good, although for me the best are siberia and little machines
I was worried she was going through some relationship/mental health stuff this year. I know it's not my business or anything but I just felt sad for her. But I've also heard her say in interviews that she has wanted to make music about breakups and such but didn't want people to assume that she was actually dealing with those things. I am loving her new music and her expertimenting with sounds and styles though it's so good! I just want her to be ok though too ya know?
@@sebgamr-9376 It is very different for an artist to have such different sounding albums I will agree. I think that it works in her favor greatly. She has a distinct sound to her voice, and her lyrics make listeners actually think about what she's conveying and because each genre of music is always looking for new and emerging artists, her style of marketing works very well for her to reach new ears with each new album and sound.
Siberia and Little Machines were great moments for me! But no matter the album, her acoustic albums always stand out to me as her vocals really shine!
@@MintSeraph I wouldn't be surprised if anyone wasn't going through the ringer with emotions with how chaotic the year has been. I know she talked a bit in interviews during Skin & Earth that her lyrics were mores about the perspective of her comic character and her journey within the story. But this album def makes me question her right now as well. If she is going through the ebbs and flows of some hardship I hope she is doing well too. This year has been hard enough for everyone and in the hypothetical 'ifs' of her relationship I think she knows she has support from people that are here for her, whether fans or her close ones and that its always darkest before the dawn. But her name isn't Lights for a reason and I have faith she will know what to do if times are really tough... Even if it is a really difficult decision.

Getting a new song was really nice. Want her to do what she wants but tbh I miss her old lyrical swag and I hope this isn’t her next move in her ever-changing sound. Just being honest. Ultimately it’s about the lyrics for me. Too repetitive. Not enough soul. But maybe that’s the point. This year was rough and maybe she just wanted to put out a feel-good album to dance our worries away while still not being tone deaf to what’s been going on.
I totally agree with you, the truth is I liked the three songs that I put out but I hope that his next album has at least some of his past albums

I'm always fine with experimenting and all, but in this case I think she's no longer the artist I liked, at all... I could listen to this, but never love it.
(Yeah, as some have said on the other videos, maybe the next album of hers will go back to the roots -some elements of them anyway- so we'll just wait and see, it's not like we can do anything else, lol.)

@@codyz93 tbh I've always only loved her more personal songs, and liked some others depending on the record (iirc little machines had less or no personal songs, but I still liked that album). The new style is too different :/ and not in a good/unique way, to me this kind of stuff sounds quite... generic (lyrically as well, tbh, compared with her older stuff), if that makes sense. Either way, I'll keep giving her chances, she deserves them :) at least for now...
(I realize she can't just pursue/go back to writing about depression, loneliness, etc, I'm not really asking for that nowadays, although I would definitely relate to "darker" lyrics; well, dark isn't the best word to describe her older lyrics, she's about staying positive and that's what I really liked about her, I just mean that the topic was darker, obviously. But the music alone should be enough to make me like an album, if it was the kind of pop she used to "rock", in a sense :p the more innocent, girly stuff. I'm a guy but hey. And I know, the older stuff are there and I can listen to them forever, but fresh stuff of that kind would be much appreciated.)
