I used to volunteer at a home for troubled youth and from my experience there I can say that I am very respectful of these boys (SB19). Like many of my former wards, three members of SB19 grew up without one or both parents by their side and thus experienced poverty, neglect, abuse, physical and mental illness--however, none of them at any point turned to vices, gangs or criminality. Instead they sought out good company, education and self-development. Their success motivates the rest of us to pursue big dreams in a positive, life-affirming way. Make up is just part of the Aesthetics for this MV. According to them, they are all straight. Make up in men may be something new or even off for some, but generally accepted or should I say expected by pop fans. Great RV! I usually skip if the reactor talks too much 😄 but your insights are too good, I watched the whole thing. This recent EP of SB19 is like a whole song cut into 6 tracks. I love that you’ve got the main meaning of this song! Pablo (the leader, the one with the long hair) who wrote the song, he said that this song is about the differences of each members and also in general. They wear make up to prove that make up is not only for women and doesn’t mean they’re less men.

First off, thank you for reacting to SB19's songs even when you're not into boybands. Kudos for being open minded and for having an understanding that there are different styles of music out there. Thank you for walking the talk, so to speak. It may not be your cup of tea when it comes to your music preference, but simply making the time and effort to listen to them and share your opinion about their songs are enough. And as an SB19 fan I appreciate that. What? is a song about raising your personal flag, whatever it may be, no matter what obstacles get in your way whether they are within yourself (inner demons, insecurities etc) or outside (people, situations etc that will put you down). The beauty of the song's lyrics is that you can interpret it according to what you want it to be - it can be a personal anthem, it can be a patriotic song about loving one's country or heritage, it can be about one's faith. And yes, the Father the song is referring to is God. This group doesn't shy away from giving thanks to the good Lord for the blessings, opportunities and support they receive. That gratitude will always be a part of their music. Because the belief in the Almighty is one of the pillars of our Filipino culture. As for the heavy makeup that looks girlish, it's just part of this pop generation's imaging and styling. I mean, think of K.I.S.S. members who had very heavy makeup back in their day. Granted they looked more ghoulish than girlish LOL but it was part of their look and styling. It's no different from the heavy eyeliners and red lipsticks of say The Cure or Boy George in the 80s isn't it? My point is, makeup has been used for generations by music artists, performers, actors, newscasters of both genders that it has become a normal thing in any entertainment industry. You'd be surprised that there are makeup artists out there who are so good at what they do that they are able to create a makeup look that makes people look like they don't have any makeup on at all. SB19 been through a lot, when I say a lot, I mean it. And What? isn't really about haters, it's about raising your own flag and be proud of your own self, and that they will always look back to their roots or where they're from.

This song is all about being your self and proud of yourself, being confident, the make up thing I don't think they put it like what you've said but it's more of the production and the lightings and everything hahahaha and because also of the sand and actually that sand is not just a normal sand and its actually ash from a volcano here in the Philippines also the creative director of this music video is one of their member the youngest one also SB19, they write all of their song mainly their leader Pablo, co produce it choreograph it and yeah they really put a lot of effort and their heart to it also that's what we all need :) thanks for the reaction :)
It's okay that you noticed they had heavy makeup on. Because they actually do. That's just how pop boybands are usually showcased these days specially here in Asia, it's part of the marketing strategy to catch more attention, specially the younger generation. 😉
It was also explained in one of the behind-the-scenes video (forgot which one exactly, perhaps the prod crew's?) that the lights used for the MV was so strong and hot, thus the need for heavy makeup because the heat from the lights could quickly melt all the makeup off.
The composer Pablo is their main rapper and vocals is so brilliant as all his songs have positive msg. They make their own songs choreo and almost everything that envelops their persolity.

SB19's songs are full of positive messages. They actually have a song dedicated to parents. You should check out their lyric video of MAPA. I recommend that you also watch their Go Up dance practice video. There's a lot of positive messages in that song and you will be able to see how talented they are at dancing. They actually do their own choreographies and their leader (Pablo) writes and co-produces their songs.
SB19 is very diverse group, they can give you hiphop-ish and ballad songs and all of their songs have meaningful meaning.
What? is written by Pablo, it is about individuality just be you and keep on going on with your dreams..well they were lukewarmly accepted but they keep on going Up as their Dance practice of Go Up 2nd single made a breakthrough to PPop music industry internationally
They didn't like wearing makeup when they were beginning, but they noticed they looked gray/ didn't look natural during performances, so they got used to wearing them. They have also had Korean idol training (including grooming and styling), so they don't mind doing the masculine and soft girly looks.

SB19, Always breaking the norms. When you get to watch their vlogs, you'll see how apart they're from other boy bands. Yes they're PPOP but they are not afraid to try different genres. Their songs always mean something positive, you might find some of their song meanings about basher/detractors but it's just because they want everyone to know especially those people who are in the depression and thought about giving up, is there is always a light after darkness and you are unique in every ways and it's okay. It's because other Filipinos thinking that they're a copycut of KPop, in addition they came from a Korean Company that has a branch here in PH so yeah. I’m new to hearing this group. And have been watching reaction vids of other ppl on them. The makeup ain’t new though. I could think of some rockstars who wore them in their mtvs and performances back in the day when MTV was a music video channel only. David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath. I Read down the comments someone mentioned KISS. That’s spot on. Come to think of it, I didn’t realize they wore makeup then when I was watching them decades ago. Nice reaction btw.

I randomly saw your channel while searching for SB19 videos and I'm not gonna lie, I love how you breakdown each lyrics in the song and you are definitely on point. Boy groups are not that widely accepted here in PH and they are the ones who broke those boundaries when it comes to P-Pop music.
I also want to add to your comment regarding the heavy makeup and yes, I would agree to that. They are trying to break the "stereotypes" when it comes to art and fashion.
Wow, your one of the few reactors that dissected and really understood the meaning of the song, SB19 is great because all their songs have good meaning not trashy, the boys are all straight, the make up is necessary specially for this MV, in other performances they wear make up too but not as heavy as this, make up is common in any pop boy band as it's the trend, but they have their own yt channel and have vlogs so you'll see them there without make up, they're actually more good looking without make up, SB19 is rising and have big Fandom now called A'tin (International and Philippines)they just released their new EP and will have a concert on Aug 1st
