Since were on the subject. Does timing belt rattle if tensioner is going bad ? I've got a rattle from engine bay at 2500rpm no matter what gear or speed it may be.. I've tried and tried to figure it out. But I can't find anything
@@jbrayda9 Check all the small stuff first. Halfshaft bolts, Mounts, Exhaust bracket on the header, Belts, Timing belt cover (could be rubbing), Radiator, But mainly make sure your halfshaft is bolted to the block and the bracket isn't moving at all. I've seen that alot with b series swaps 👍 If that's not the case replace the tensioner, The bearing definitely could be wearing
Brent is a wizard... I noticed today that you guys have taught me so much about tuning. I was able to trace a vacuum leak to the map sensor on my brothers b20z2 swapped EF hatch just because of what you guys have shown over time. It was pushing to much vacuum so it surged like crazy we did bleed the coolant and all the usual then i setup a datalog as he messed with vacuum and boom i seen the data change.
I'm not an Import guy, never owned one but I respect them. I'm only here for Brent. Never have I've seen Brent in a bad mood, always pumping up people and fly's down to Florida to help Cleetus all the time. Oh and his boy is always with him. I can relate, my 19 year old son and I are rebuilding a Mustang together. Plus he can make power, started at low 200's and finishes over double.

When I was a kid a mix of maths and science was never sold to me on the basis that I could potentially do this and get genuinely excited whilst working. Each car is just an equation to be solved via the data it spits out. Watching these is oddly relaxing just wish i understood what you were doing to flatten that curve! That said even I can see this you (all) are very talented. Being humble and genuine are both a very welcome added bonus. Great content. (As a recent sub, do people always bring broken cars for you to fix before you can actually do anything? I'd bet 20 of your dollars, here, you'd get charged for the dyno time and your slot relinquished to the next person in the queue!)
PLEASE listen!! You guys need to do something about the air in the shop, I love the videos, fabrication, dynos and all you guys do, BUT you are playing with fire if you do not fix the exhausts and fumes during the pulls! Yeah, older guy whining about dorky things, I know, but just think about it, hours and hours upon of breathing that shit is going to shorten your life, I have been welding, inhaled break dust, solvents and on that been smoking 1-2 packs a day for a long time, and some exhaust fumes on top of that... then I was stupid and young.... Now at 56 I'm not, my body is breaking up, joints is crap, my lungs is not working all that great(asthma), have had one heart attack so far, my hands is developing tremors and my blood tests is no good, and there is nothing I can do about it! So just out of care I erg you, PLEASE get ventilation sorted, it's your property now and with that comes responsibility :) Keep up the fun and games and runt'em hard but don't forget tomorrow guys!

Brent, youre tuning my twin turbo v6 build when i get (if i ever get) that started and finished. Im actually basically doing the same as sho'nuff, twin turbo j35a4 engine. Built and everything.
Hey Brent, I follow several pages and maybe an idea for you. Matt (sloppy mechanics) does hp recipes on ls swaps. If anyone would know what it takes with x motor to make x power it would be you. 300-800hp reciepes using parts that you are familiar with and have had great luck. I did Honda swaps for most of my adulthood and was always disappointed when I would buy an expensive part that didnt result in power gains. I know you're super busy but I think alot of young non subscribers would tune in for some reciepe videos and there is alot of content there.
You guys should get the Gates Carbon Drive phone app and use that to check the tension of the timing belts. You just hold your phone next to the belt, pluck the longest leg of the timing belt like a bow and see what the frequency reading is. I use the app to verify the correct tension on my supercharger belt. The app insures I'm not tearing up idler pulleys or worse my $2500 Rotrex supercharger. Takes a little know-how to determine the correct frequency reading, but it's a lot faster than trying to use a belt tension gauge.
Love the channel Brent and love watching all the K series stuff but what's the story on the bug behind you? I daily a '67 Beetle and it caught my eye. I told my 7yo daughter we would put a K in the rear of my '71 Super Beetle roller and get you guys to tune it. She wants to go fast lol

I had a 97 prelude and after I changed the timing belt it made that same whining noise...and now 10 years later I finally know what it was 😀

Hey Brent, I follow several pages and maybe an idea for you. Matt (sloppy mechanics) does hp recipes on ls swaps. If anyone would know what it takes with x motor to make x power it would be you. 300-800hp reciepes using parts that you are familiar with and have had great luck. I did Honda swaps for most of my adulthood and was always disappointed when I would buy an expensive part that didnt result in power gains. I know you're super busy but I think alot of young non subscribers would tune in for some reciepe videos and there is alot of content there.
I can't wait to see the garage iduots bug I have a 72super I'd like to turbo. Seeing Brent in that thing is gonna be a sight to see !
You guys should get the Gates Carbon Drive phone app and use that to check the tension of the timing belts. You just hold your phone next to the belt, pluck the longest leg of the timing belt like a bow and see what the frequency reading is. I use the app to verify the correct tension on my supercharger belt. The app insures I'm not tearing up idler pulleys or worse my $2500 Rotrex supercharger. Takes a little know-how to determine the correct frequency reading, but it's a lot faster than trying to use a belt tension gauge.

Love the channel Brent and love watching all the K series stuff but what's the story on the bug behind you? I daily a '67 Beetle and it caught my eye. I told my 7yo daughter we would put a K in the rear of my '71 Super Beetle roller and get you guys to tune it. She wants to go fast lol

Huge fan of the channel. You guys need to get an exhaust vacuum/extractor to use during the winter. I get nervous every time I watch the exhaust coming back into the shop.
We have a full evac and camera makes it look so bad lol. But we do cycle it and open doors
