This song was was written by two veterans and was a big hit in 1973, a time when the Vietnam War was coming to an end and our soldiers were returning home.
"Dawn" became "Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando" and finally "Tony Orlando and Dawn", the name the group is best known by - at least partly because they hosted a TV variety show for a couple of seasons in the '70s. "Knock Three Times" was one of their hits in a similar vein/theme.
A magnificent iconic international charttopper from 1973 that timelessly represents every long hoped for reunion 👩🌾 Enjoyed the song and your great reaction ENOMA - have a wonderful week 👷✨
This takes me back! It was very popular when I was little. It's a feel good song & the 100 yellow ribbons always makes me smile, no matter how many times I hear this.
He is a solider coming back from Vietnam. In America when our young men came home this was how we Americans showed a loving homecoming to our brave young men...so many yellow ribbons tied on the trees. What a sight it was to see in my hometown.
Actually, the idea for the song was the true story of a Civil War soldier who had been released from a Confederate prison, and was returning home (by stagecoach). The writer changed the stagecoach to a bus in order to reflect the 60's or 70's time period.
Coming home from war It's thrilling to see your love

This is an oldie. One of the first singles I remember playing on the family record player we had in a little case. 'Knock 3 Times', is the other song they're famous for. I can't help but think of a similar themed song when I hear this. That being, 'Welcome Home', by Peters & Lee. It's got that same vibe.
We had a neighbor worked at local prison. He was one of several hostages taken in a prison break by a really bad guy. Whole neighborhood tied yellow ribbons waiting for his release. He was blessed and made it home.
This was a popular song from back in the day . The story seems to be about a man getting out of prison and wondering if his woman would still be there for him .
Happy, popping song... unrequited love...almost. Speaking of love, I searched your site for Rush - The Spirit of Radio... and did you react to it? I would love to see what you think of it. It's Rush's comment on their love for independent stations playing indie Rock and their criticism of corporate music and how superficial it can be as they chase profits.

I really like this golden oldie and I felt happy watching you listening to it : you brightened up part of my day ( I got a bit of a feel good buzz ) !
Popular when I was but a young lad. I always associated it with the return of the Vietnam veterans.
You brought back good memories. I will also tie thousands of yellow ribbons of love to both of you for such lovely reactions. Cheers!
It’s not about a soldier who’s been away on duty. It’s about a man released from prison. “My heart is still in prison, and my love she holds the key.”
