Anacrusis was so far ahead of their time.
30 years later, Manic & Whispers are still 2 of my favorites. Absolutely brilliant.
🤘❤️
Believe it or not... I've been searching for almost 15 years to find the name of this band. At that time, the music channel (TV) miswrote the name of the band during the clip and I couldn't find the right name for years. So glad I finally found that song !!!!!!!!!!!
I love this album! A shame they never made any more.
so We've had albums from Heathen, Helstar, Forbidden, and now have the reformation of Coroner and Anacrusis. Where the hell is Forced Entry?
Just waiting for Toxik and Powermad to complete the circle. Most of these guys were awesome bands that were struggling in the late 80's early 90's but churning out great damn music. So happy so many are back.
One of the most progressive metal bands ever to grace the music world....sad demise their existence...!!
I saw these guys way back in 1993 in Philadelphia. If I remember correctly the line up was Mercyful Fate, Cathedral, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Anacrusis. Anacrusis totally won me over that night. What a unique sound!
Just the best songwriting in metal to come out of the early 90's. So incredible.
Awesome song. Anacrusis were one of the metal bands ever. Hope for a reunion.
Agreed. I picked this up when it first came out and loved the shit out of it. Unfortunately I haven't listened in years. But, now I want to hear it again...all the way through....
What a great track! so glad I found this band today! :) the whole album is a masterpiece!!
They were fantastic. I was fortunate to see them open for Overkill and the Galactic Cowboys in 1991 and bought all their albums immediately afterwards.
I even called Kevin up when I drove through St. Louis in 1995 and he bought me lunch! Super cool guys!
\,,/ shit yeah! i may be showing my age here but i had the pleasure of seeing these guys open for megadeth back on the "rust in peace" tour. anacrusis was supporting their "manic impressions" album then. what a great way to get introduced to this awesome group! been one of my favorite since.
the first 'metal' band I knew. I bought their cassette "screams and whisper" somewhere in 1995 that led me to other metal bands.
Since 1995, I love metal music until now, thanks to Anacrusis.
so glad i got to see these guys before they broke up. years ago ago ken nardi [vocals/guitar] and i were corresponding and he emailed me greatly detailed accounts of why the band broke up and what he and everyone else had been doing since, and sent a 3 hour video tape of rare anacrusis footage. fuckin' cool dude. don't know how to find him today..
I GOT THIS TAPE ON A MONTHLY BMG TAPE, IT ROCKED, I was sitting here and i just remembered them and i was like wow! THIS IS SICK AS FUCK!
great song off of a great CD these guys should have been given more recognition!!!
REEAALLL TTHHRRAAASSHH MMMEETTAALL!!! I used to have all their stuff on cassette. Awesome!!!!
Got their first two albums... They were ten years ahead of their time!
One of the ultimate repeat tracks on my 90's boombox spaceship lazer solo beams sci-fi dramatic melodies and scarecrow soul terror lyrics of anisocialism with hope in hate for love 💘in life kickass metal riffing brought my weed filled room of headbangin friends to reup on a slow day much-needed kickass flow
i'm very impressed! real innovators for their time!
One of my fav. songs!!! GREAT, GREAT SONG!!!
One more thing: John and Kevin of Anacrusis have formed this rock cover band - Johnny Rock-itt and the double Wide Symphony. Search google for more details.
I just got introduced to this band, such a shame that I wasn't aware of them any earlier but am glad to now be in the "know".
I can't believe it's been 17 years since this came out!!! Still kicks as much ass today as it did then. \m/
HELL YEAH!!!! Anacrusis is rejoining to play a few concerts next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check out their web page for more info!!!
The dream will become true!
I came across this by accident, I'm glad I did.
I think they are the best example of the right band in the wrong time. The 90's where strange years for good heavy metal... That's my explanation for why such a good band never had their deserved success and remained so incredibly obscured. I like all their albums, but Screams And Whispers is simply a masterpiece. One of those albums that you can't listen just to one song, because all songs are so good and stuck in your head forever. So unfair. So unfair...
@hopploponeus I'm with ya on this....I'm from ST.L and seen these guys a few times....Loved 'em the first time I heard 'em.
This is obviously a great track, no real need to point that out. Just had to say, holy shit that vocalist headbangs like he’s fucking possessed by the demons of metal, fucking superb! Makes a great track even greater, that energy and aggression....I think I’m going on a UA-cam search of the best headbangers, though this will be tough to beat!
last time we corresponded was 1998 but at that time ken had been re-married and became a born again christian after being atheist his whole life, and was demoing new music that he said was in the "screams and whispers" style. kevin h. had opened a sports bar. john emery was working at a van rental place.. i don't think he knew what paul miles was doing..
Nai re!!!
THEY ARE GREAT BAND. and they are underestimated! I love them and i am happy that i learnt them alone and that not many people know them ,because i am an egoist
Awesome !!!
Masterpiece!
Where does music like this come from?! Absolutely crazy!
One of my favourite songs of my favourite album of my favourite band!
If my local underground radio station back in the days hadnt played each song of the "Manic Impressions" album for weeks I certainly would have missed on this one. its passionate music, but it takes some time to get into it.
Great to see the are some hardcorefans left who feel similar. cheers to all of you :)
Love the intro
"most under-rated metal band ever"
absolutely true
I think in Europe it was never played this video in TV. NobodyMy Hungarian metal-fan friends
Amazing band
I forgot about these guys! We had a gig together at the blue note or mississppi nights ?!! Sometimes short term turns into long term memory loss ?!!!
Hey, at least they left a short legacy and their material for free download on their website. :P
Bought 'Screams and Whispers' a couple years back but the music never really caught my interest until I started recently diving into Progressive Metal. This track hit me like a ton of fucking bricks; the haunting vocals and inhuman shrieks, the simple yet pounding drumwork, and those damn riffs.
SO AWESOME.
Anacrusis showed what REAL METAL should be all about. Hail forever! They should re-form....
fuck this is cool. cant believe i havent heard more of these guys.
I grew up in bridgeton mo in the same neighborhood these practiced
In Metal Archives you can find a link to download Cruel April's album, including the artwork, at Kenn Nardi's official site (wich is actually Anacrusis official site - nicely documented, with all their albums to download, plus demos and live recordings). Thanks for the tip longbowgold67!
Awesome that they´ll play KIT.
See you there! :)
Sounds like a cross between Voivod and Killing Joke, great stuff
One of my all time favourite tracks! Can't wait for the new album!
P.S. Those disturbances from 3:12 - classic! VHS FTW!
I LOOOOVE their first album, Reason just was a little too odd for me, but on this one they successfully merged the prog with the thrash. Great album, very ahead of its time.
Chad Smith was the name of the drummer on their 3rd album, Manic Impressions, and he wrote much of the drum parts for S&W too. Not sure if it is the same Chad Smith.
The only metal band from St. Louis to get signed to a major label.
Man, these guys were the most under-rated metal band ever. With all the bullshit re-unions taking place, I'd LOVE to see these guys get back together. I still remember the first time I heard 'Terrified'; Kenn's scream sent chills through my spine...Flat-out fucking amazing! Hey Kenn, is your Cruel April cd for sale? I dug what I heard...:)
How the FUCK did i not know about these guys until now!!!!!
🤘🏻
BTW, Kevin was the other gutarist. It's Kenn (or Ken) Nardi. :-) and Thanks!
rulesssssssss !!!!!!!!!!

OWNS. I just heard them on Snake Metal Radio net
GOOD!!!
I saw that video on VHS in the 90s struck me!
omg that was fucking awesome
Fuckin awesome
no it is a different Chad Smith. The original drummer when this band first started was Mike Owen. Another great drummer. Not sure where he is these days.
oh.. and he said the only member actively playing music today was their original drummer mike owen
Nagy power fan voltam abban az időben, de ezt a zenekart nem ismertem. Kár érte. Nagyon jók.
Fucking Hell ! this is great !
Am I the only one who thinks this song wouldn't have been out of place on rock radio around the time it came out...much less even now, something melodic and accessible yet forward thinking like this would be refreshing with all the fucking Nickelback clones dominating everything these days.
I remember that i bought the Manic I cd saying:whats this?to myself, then i try to know more about this great band and then sure i bought all the cds, only i cant get dvd or vhs live concert or some like that.
ANACRUSIS IS A MIGHTY TRASH METAL BAND...COULD BE..."SOMETHING REAL"the reunion?...i hope yes

It's alright.
Too bad they split, i think Screams and Whispers was truely unique in that it was really pushing the boundries of Thrash Metal without giving up on being heavy as so many were during this time
Sadly all tickets to Keep it True Festival are sold out... :-((((
gotta wonder if the guys in Dream Theater were paying attention to this as their career was starting to blossom around this time.
I always wondered what this song is about
Was not expecting to like this because I hate thrash metal as a general rule, and I heard they were Progressive/Thrash but it's actually pretty great, nice surprise.
wtf awesome. i will travel anywhere to see them ... wow fuck :)
it's like the thrash version of acid bath
@sassassin they had one on 2010 :O
Joo das bin ich wohl ;)
God only knows how underrated this band is.
And when I know how many bands that are trying do something similar with this are being labelled innovative it makes me sick...
lol obviously they are going to be amazing songwriters... Their name is directly from a music theory term.. So cool..
@achromat666 I'd be a really happy camper if Atrophy would put out something new.
woooow. im in love with anacrusis atm. kennt hier jemand ne deutsche fansite`?
@achromat666 Toxik! fuck yeah! /,,/
This is thrash more like progressive thrash to be exact.
Hi. Gibt leider (noch) keine deutsche fansite. Aber noch einen Haufen Fans von damals :)
@bigjeepj20 Well I tried it out didn't I? I agree that this is very good, in fact I bought it about 2 months ago. I find genres to very helpful there is a lot of music someone or another finds to be "good" searching "good music" on the internet would be a colossal waste of time so it's nice to have label so that you can search with a higher probability you will like something. I don't have time to listen to everything, get what I'm saying?
Midwest metal
too good of a band to become succesful
Ken Nardi is on you tube, I think he goes under chef boy or something
@hopploponeus
well i think i'm the only "metalhead" (well i'm just metalfan , do you call them metalheads too?) within my friends at all ... they think I'm weird.
@itstimetospill Selling out is a bad thing so it would be better for them:P
great fucking band, have al their albums
viejo y la tecnica??
You phrased 'criminally underrated' wrong.
not likely
und du bist einer davon? oh mann ich will auch zu KiT :_(
metal at it's best! Should have been the biggest metal band of all time!
@sm0kenmirrhurz92
you know, i think this don't really fit in rock radio. it's too thrashy for that.
also, it might cause heads to explode with an overload of awesome, and that might not be good for ratings...
this is progressive thrash rite?
My dad was the drummer on this album.
