    I've really been on the Louis Rossmann board repair video grind. I've been watching a lot of your videos, and I really do appreciate your educational content. Even though I am a new viewer, I find this stuff interesting, and I love your commentary, and especially the way you explained what was going on with this board in this video. I thought you did really good explaining, and I am glad that you do make videos like this. Even though I don't do my own board repair and I am a new active viewer, I've quickly come to appreciate your content.
    Also, I love how you end most of your videos with, "I hope you learned something today".

    Regarding notifications, I don't ring the bell for anyone. I subscribe to channels that are interesting, and then use the subscriptions feed to see new videos. I'm exposed to new content only when I choose to look at the recommendations or get bored and check the homepage.
    Regarding the voltage divider description, I'm sure someone already pointed out that it would only provide ~4V if the resistor values were the same. Since the larger one is on top, the voltage is even lower than stated.
    Do keep making all kinds of videos!

    I just came across your videos, and really appreciate them. I think, what might make them a little better, would be if you added more information to the comments about what you've fixed, rather than what you used to fix it. It's nice to know that you used a certain soldering iron and flux, with the links, but if I'm searching on youtube for how to fix a specific part your titles and descriptions will not easily reveal which video I have to watch to see you fix the part that I've diagnosed as broken.

    5:12. It's considered bad electrical engineering practice to have a capacitor between the Source and the gate. The FET can oscillate as a result. they should have one more resistor.

    • @stanimir4197
      @stanimir4197 4 роки тому +2

      Weird choice to place a "filtering" cap between the source and gate, so the rise time is significantly slower.

    • @LaserFur
      @LaserFur 4 роки тому

      @@stanimir4197 The filtering cap is there to slow down the rate the supply voltage rises. Too fast of a rise time will cause the source voltage to sag. I've used this kind of circuit myself on a project, but I added a second resistor between the cap and the gate. The alternative is to find a high ESR capacitor, but that is hard in that 0.1uf value.

    What is NYC Stage 4? Here in Melbourne, Oztralia, we are stuck in Stage 4 *AND* an 8pm to 5am curfew. Those caught breaking the curfew will be shot on sight with an effing hefty fine. 😡
    Circa 14:40 It's all very well making the "perfect" video but the real educational part IMO is including the far cups that are/can be made. It shows what results if you do something wrong during the repair. That is where your videos shine Louis. I used to review tutorials for a quite well know company and they deliberately left the mistakes in because they could be made by anyone so you saw what happened, how to recognise what was done and how to resolve it. Yours have done the same. I think the problem at this point in time is that COVID exhaustion has set in and we are all getting fatigued by it.
    Of course I could be just full of shit. 🤷‍♂️

    TL;DR Your primary content is vlogging now. The primary viewer base growth is therfore heavily based on those viewers' interest in that primary content. General consumption content draws general consumption sized crowds. Board repair is still extremely niche compared to vlogs. The algorithm will always promote the content with the broadest viewer appeal; that is the basic core principle of any ad revenue business model. Your board repair viewer base has grown substantially too, but of course not near as much as the vlog base. Probably lost some viewers too, among those super into board repair but not interested in vlogs.
    The last couple of years, the bulk of your content has transitioned from board-repair and equipment / technique content, to vlogging. The last year or so, board repair has become more like _the rare exception,_ rather, than the norm. A tonne of your UA-cam channel growth the last few years stems from new viewers who's only interested in that; the vlogs. In that context - With that being the majority of your content now for a _really_ long time and during much of that growth - comparing views count today between board repair videos and your vlogging, really isn't fair. Board repair, big picture, _is still and always will be,_ niche as hell. Vlogs are far more "general consumption".
    However - to those who actually *_do_*_ watch these board repair vids of yours,_ they mean the world. Over the years, through and with the help of these videos, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people have been able to fix electronics by themselves, that were otherwise destined for the scrap heap. For even more people, it has pulled back the curtain of mysticism and "danger" of electronics repair, enlightening them on what is possible to repair vs manufacturer BS rhetoric. And for tens of thousands of people, this content have been a big part of making them able to make a partial or full living doing this themselves. Quite a few of them have even gone on to start their own buisinesses, creating jobs and livelyhoods for thousands of others.
    Your board repair videos might not have enormous view counts compared to vlog banter, reflection and rant videos. But they are far more consequential and valuable to those viewers behind the count, and beyond.

    0.55 Is that amazing software Paul Daniels' own excellent FlexBV that he created? And you too can have a copy to speed up your MacBook and iPhone repairs. I guess it must be available here then, pldaniels.com/flexbv/ . Make sure you do *not* choose the Southern Hemisphere version or like Louis you will find the boardviews (not included) will be orientated wrong as in upside down. 🤦‍♂️

      Yeah, it would definitely be tempting if I lived in NYC. But I don't. For me it's 556 miles/over 8 hours. That's just not workable as a commute.

    I love seeing Samsung chips on Apple boards. The irony.
    Younger generations rather watch people talking nonesense rather than be educated.

      Plenty of older people waste their time watching nonsense, it’s not a generational problem.

    Ya I'll agree, you are getting worse at teaching as time goes on. But hey man, you got alot going on, and its all happening at once. So we get it. Still come back for the entertainment rather than the knowledge.
