Oh my parents found out that I'm deaf after 2 yrs old that I don't speak at all except screaming all the time. So Dr offered resources for me go attend Atlanta speech school at 3 half yrs old still attending there for 4 yrs til 7 yrs old left there Bec I'm tired be separated from my family while attending school. I went in mainstream public school for 12 yrs seems not satisfied myself so I asked for deaf school with best education. I went Model secondary school for the deaf in Galladuet campus for 3 yrs graduated 1985 at 20 yrs old successful gotten diploma & peace ✌️ out myself. AMEN!!!

If Katie chooses not to wear her hearing aids do you use sign language? Her being deaf, if she doesn't learn sign language now as a child she will be playing catch up for the rest of her adult life. Not everyone who is deaf wants to be treated as a deaf person with hearing aids, some will choose not to wear hearing aids. As parents I hope that you try to learn sign language and get Katie learning it as well. Because being deaf is a culture all its own and she will miss out on a lot comradery if she doesn't learn. They must of told you when she received her hearing aids that increasing sound doesn't help in distinguishing speech. Take it from someone who knows.

If she's profoundly deaf they should be teacher her sign language as well! You're doing your daughter a disservice by not at least supplementing with ASL

How is it your choice to tell them to teach sign ? I grew up without learning it and just wearing aids and I'm just fine. It's nice to suggest but don't bluntly say they NEED to teach sign .... it's just rude.

Have you looked at teaching your child sign language? It has been proven that signing can improve speech of a child who is either deaf or hearing when it comes to learning a spoken language. That when teaching your child to sign they will have a form of language accusation. In which will give your child a foundation to learn more languages that are either spoken or signed.

@@punkgirlphoto Yes, plus that way there will always be one language she can easily learn other things in and communicate with you in. You can also keep working on speech therapy or better hearing aids at the same time, and she can end up bilingual.
