Thank you for identifying the opal that I traded turquoise for, it is Honduran opal!👍 I always bevel the bottom edge of most all the cabs I make regardless of the material used. Bumblebee jasper which gets its color from sulpher and arsenic smells like rotten eggs when cutting and cabbing, so use plenty of water in your machines when working with it. It takes a fantastic polish and is quite stable.👍(which reminds me to make some more cabs from the slab I have.)

Gem quality ammolite and ammonites comes from southern Alberta, Canada. The Korite mines have stunning pieces of ammolite made into jewellery and send large colored ammonites to museums, including your natural history museum in New York, which I had the pleasure of seeing. l have been an opal collector for many years and have ventured into ammolite and ammonite specimens, worth having in a collection. I buy from individual miner/collectors which saves money.

Im still trying to learn more, and you show me and give me more knowledge in the craft with every video you make. I'm doing all my polishing by hand. I don't have a wheel or any machines. I recently purchased my first large parcel of rough mintabie. And it feels like i got robbed a little bit. Im also trying to find better sources for opal. I have zero currently. Sellers just seem a bit shady. Again, i truly appreciate your work and thank you for your time in helping all of us in the opal world.

I’m from New Orleans. There is nothing resembling rock there - except for gravel. My new video (hopefully out Thursday) has a section on Louisiana opal. I got a better piece of it and made an interesting cabochon. My old chunk is pretty boring, but this new stuff is good enough for jewelry. No, it’s not AU opal, but it is distinctive. Question 1
    All of those places
Oh, wait you’re answering FOR us 😂
I’ve got a buddy who works with jewels as well, she’s got this jelly opal that I’ve loved since I was little, we are curious as to what you know about jelly opal.
I could google it but I prefer learning from those who are in the world of wonders.
I’m wondering if it’s Ethiopian opal with ZERO crystals?
It’s clear and somehow vibrant 🤔
    Side note: 100%
Also those are semi-educated lucky guesses :)
    Edit
I used to assist glassblowers as I was learning the trade and my first job near the scene was throwing water on the silica dust, lost a few local artists to silicosis, very real and very scary.
The area I’m from is home to the wonderful studio glass artist Dominic Labino and his protege Baker O’Brian taught me a lot. I still like rocks more, Baker is a jeweler as well oddly enough!

I knew almost all of these. Thanks for making me feel smart! I think you accidentally put the wrong answer for #9- contra luz does have some color play = precious opal. I only know because I have some, it’s very pretty.

Yeah I don’t know about that either, I’m a long ways away from attempting to cut it! I don’t think it would work too well I guess. Is it technically precious opal? I have some really interesting stuff in my collection, some I don’t even know where it came from. One day I’ll make some videos of them, maybe you’d recognize this one in particular.. it’s beautiful, but strange

I wish you were my neighbor and I could be your apprentice/sidekick I could sure use a career worthy skill and you're one of the funniest people on the interwebs. oh well, I would probably make a move on Sheila eventually and it would end in ugly heartbreak and pain so I guess I'll just watch on UA-cam instead
