I was in the same class as Nick at school, and I appear in the book "High Fidelity". Unfortunately they decided to base the film in the US instead of England and so the scene I would have appeared in wasn't in the film.
@@AndreAmeli - I'm not a character in the book as such. There is a bit in the book where Nick says how innocent he was (which was the truth), and he tells a story about sitting in a Wimpy Bar drinking a coke one school lunchtime. When the coke was empty I looked at the froth at the bottom and said to him that it looked like spunk (i.e. semen). He laughed but he didn't actually know what I was talking about, which he admitted in an email when I got in touch with him after he became famous.
@@LuvGarbo23 - actually I have to laugh because I managed to contact Nick to congratulate him when he joined the ranks of the rich and famous and he described the scene which he described in the book as "rather disgusting". Young schoolboys, eh? 😀
if you think Conan was obnoxious here, don't blame him, blame American audiences. Carefully watching, you'll see that he's trying to "translate" Hornby to make him come across. A lot of that is amplification and exaggeration. Conan is a _very_ smart and sensitive person, and he wasn't even merely self-interested by acting this way (i.e. for ratings). Imagine you were Hornby: to be handled this way by Conan might be a little awkward and dispiriting, but to have all your humour and intelligence meet with a deafening silence of bored non-appreciation would be worse.
this isn’t his best moment for sure, but over the past 10 or so years he become one of our top late night hosts. i think late night here is the cheesiest it’s ever been with him and david letterman retired
Great book. One of my favorites.

@@probablygraham such a cool story to read 😊
Apparently his Arsenal match day seat is very nice.
Not so easy to interview. Conan is very interested in shining. It's the guest who should shine. Study Johnny Carson.
I almost studied the moments that Sarah Silverman was on camera. While knowing nothing about her, I have a hunch she was pretty high.

My god American tv presenters are annoying
