Probably the best series of the UA-cam fencing coaching videos. The others feature cuts and parries with no movement, as if in isolation, and are therefore hard to replicate on the piste where both parties are shifting back and forth at high speeds. These Durham demonstrations are perfect.
I am very impressed by the coach and the pupil! Amazing lessons! Very helpful! I've started fencing again after a two-year break and, honestly, I would love to be able to have a lesson or two with this coach. I have a great coach myself but it helps a lot to learn from other coaches as well because each of them has got their own way of teaching.
Feint offering the blade for the beat, withdraw and counterattack in the space after the beat. Or angulated dig counter attack under the hand. Or keep the angle of your blade in parallel with your opponents but with the point close to their guard. There is also a level of relaxation in the hand that can somewhat absorb a beat and allows you to counterattack. Also if you notice Matt is beginning with his body moving forwards so there is an opportunity to counterattack before the beat.
