My ex and her mom would send money back home to DR, the money was supposed to go towards fixing up this huge family home they have over there. But it turns out the family members in DR would waste the money. It wasn’t until my ex and her mom did a surprise visit home that they learn all the money had been wasted. Then there’s stories of my ex’s mom paying to get family members on the island established in the USA. Well once those people got to America they realized that they actually had to work to afford a life. 2 or 3 people actually went back to DR because they preferred to be poor and not work(but be near a beach, drink and have fun all day) to living in America. But There’s also my ex’s cousin who managed to get to America and now he’s a doctor.

If you ever been down there, you know they run the full range of the colour spectrum. But, lighter skinned Dominicans tend to be wealthier. Darker skinned Dominicans tend to be poorer. There's exceptions of course, but when I'm on the rich side of town, I hardly see anyone my shade that isn't working a service job.
