      This aircraft was over 20 years old. The wheel was most likely not from the factory, and was replaced BY UNITED. If your wheel falls off of your car after you go to the shop, are you gonna blame Ford?

    Similar thing happened to my sister-in-law; wheel flew right off her Nissan. She too made an emergency landing, so to speak.

      Interesting analogy, poor or inadequate maintenance caused both incidents.

    The biggest danger in this incident was really the wheel falling on to the ground. There was no real danger to the passengers on the plane.
    I feel like maintenance is the real problem here. The 777-200 involved, registered N226UA, is a 22 year old aircraft, so I doubt we can blame it on quality control like we can for a newer plane. Then there are freak incidents like the engine that ingested bubble wrap and blew flames. Really no-one’s fault if I say so myself.

    A plane had to divert between Houston and Dallas... Extreme weather... They all thought they were going to die... !!! Airplane falling 20 - 30 ft. 45 minutes circling.... And having to go to another airport.... They were trying to keep everyone on board and waiting and people were freaking out wanting off they did not want to go back up in a aircraft ever again... !!!

      This is most likely a united issue (it's a 22 year old plane from what other comments have mentioned), but this happening on a boeing plane is probably getting more attention/news then it would have if not for the horrible door issue, which is Boeing and greed/mismanagement fault.
      The wing issue is less sure tmk, that's wear and tear but it may be that part of plane needs to be tested for cracks and replaced more often, which Boeing is one in charge of saying how long parts of it's plane are. But if it was from water getting in from delamination as people are suspecting, then could have been from prior damage, perhaps while doing maintenance, so also may be more of a united issue also. Both the tire and thus wing issue weren't very dangerous situation for passengers in the plane, but they did land under abundance of caution. The wing issue likely wouldn't have made the news at all if not for the door issue.
      I'd trust older planes like this from an airliner with good safety record then the newest planes from Boeing ATM.

    I don't see why it did not continue to Japan. Landing somewhere else or landing where it was meant to land, what is the difference? It still lands with a missing tire either way.

    • @GH-oi2jf
      @GH-oi2jf 6 місяців тому +1

      The difference is that United has a repair facility at LAX. Both United and Boeing want to get a look at this right away. Perhaps the NTSB as well. Going to Osaka would be a big inconvenience for all (except the passengers, of course).
