=============== == IMPORTANT == =============== It would appear there was a big miscommunication between Zhiyun and I as to whether the FR100C was going to be renamed to, or replaced by, the F100. The F100 is a successor the the FR100C, and the F100 is what is shown in this video. The significant difference between the two is that the F100 is twice as bright in HSI mode, and includes the case and accessories I show here. I'm sorry for any confusion! Please forgive me 😢
Had these some form of remote or app control I'd have 3+ F100s at least. No workarounds I guess? Damn… Awesome review as usual, you're probably the go-to channel for serious non infomercial reviews.
Thanks for the support! I personally don't use app control that much, but it's totally understandable. I guess we'll have to wait for the F100 II for that :'(
It's very hard to find a 60-100W tube-style light. These would be your best bet if you wanted something that bright. I personally really like the Amaran PT1/2/4c lights: ua-cam.com/video/aBd6C0F8UHg/v-deo.html Zhiyun makes a 60W bi-color version as well, no RGB or app control though: ua-cam.com/video/sNkC8yPoZSQ/v-deo.html
Bought these based on this video. Can’t go wrong with anything recommended by you, my good sir! Can you recommend a good cheap tripod base for the FR100?
Thanks! Hope you like them :) I have some metal mini tripods from Ulanzi that I love, but unfortunately they no longer sell them. These are some really inexpensive ones that work OK: geni.us/ulanzimt05 If you want something sturdier with more tilting/etc. options, I highly suggest anything from iFootage, like these: geni.us/ifootagetabletoptripod
Thanks for sticking around! I have a few other videos ready to record, and a LOT more on the "want to do" list, so hopefully the break between videos won't be 5 months this time 😅
These are the FR100C. The F100 isn't really a light, but the product group name as far as I know. So they may, for example, come out with a FR100Bi that is only bi-color or something. So both the FR100Bi and FR100C would be "F100" lights. I hope that makes sense.
I updated the description and pinned comment. Even through multiple clarifying emails, there was a big miscommunication as to the how the naming for these lights worked. So you are correct, the F100 has succeeded the FR100C, and includes the accessories I show here. I did everything I could to clarify during production of this video... so that's quite a disappointing mistake.
It's from Ulanzi. I wish I could link it, but they no longer sell it :'( They have another one I'd recommend for 1-2' tube lights though: geni.us/ulanzimt05 If you want something heavier duty with more articulation, I really like this one: geni.us/ifootagetabletoptripod
Very happy about your video. Thank you! Most of the questions I had after watching other videos were answered. The only thing I am wondering about is whether the 120W adapter bypasses the battery when used to power the light. That would be ideal for battery life. I'll ask Zhiyun in their Facebook group. They are pretty responsive. I am so happy about the additional accessories which will allow me to use it as a rim light in my home studio. Perhaps also as a fill light, but I dislike having another light visible in my pupils so I use a diffuser to bounce some of the key light back to the shadow side of my face. I am also tempted by the pocket light, but I don't really have a use for it that goes beyond what I already have.
That's a good question, and one I'd like to know the answer to also, so come back and let us all know! And it's understandable that a pocket light this bright may not have a use for you if you use them mostly for accents/etc. where 40 watts may not be necessary.
@@NewLayer I could have used it as a hair light indoors, but since I have more use cases for the F100, I'll just use that instead. BTW I also bought the tiny Ulanzi tube lights after watching your comparison video and they have been a lot of fun. I was able to use them for outdoor product scenes in the dark and they were perfect for that.
@@MiroAcronymity That's great to hear, I have 4 of the mini Ulanzi "tube" lights magnetized to my desk drawer right now for whenever I need to grab something small and quick :)
@@NewLayer I attached one on a steel pillar and put the other one on the ground and that gave me pretty good lighting for the product scene. Nothing fancy, but it helped me a lot. Otherwise, I would have had to film during the day with much more foot traffic around me. I have not used the RGB feature yet, but I look forward to trying that out, as well.
@@NewLayer they answered pretty quickly. My question was whether or not the adapter would bypass the battery when the light is powered on after the battery is fully charged. This was their answer: "Hi Miro, it will bypass the battery and power the light directly." Very happy about that.
Yes carry on, traveling with batteries sucks in general. If that's a deal breaker you'll have to go with the Amaran T2c/T4c or another light with removeable battery, which greatly limits your choices, but there are still some options.
@@NewLayer Thanks JT. I love the stick lights so I got one, and I'd love to bring it on a job in the Caribbean, to match up to that bright sun, but it's longer than my carryon bags, so I'm back to that little super bright Lupo panel light that runs off an NPF. Nice to see you back.
@@bobkrist1 It looks like I was confused about airline battery limitations. Even if they are bigger lithium ion batteries, they are allowed in checked bags up to 100Wh if they are installed in a device and not loose spares. That's FAA guidelines, and airline guidelines may be different, so you may want to check beforehand.
Yes, I made sure to ask my contact at Zhiyun multiple times and they confirmed it. I agree they should definitely be showing the accessories much more in their marketing photos!
@@NewLayer Okay, I think the confusion is that there's a F100 and FR100C. I believe the F100 has the extra accessories and the BOGO offer, and the FR100C is the older model. I'm not sure which one you reviewed now.
@@MrNoipe My understanding is that F100 is a "family" name, and the FR100C product is inside that family. So they may come out with an FR100Bi for example, and both the Bi and C would be in the F100 "family". I've asked for clarification, but I can't find any strictly F100 version for sale at all anywhere. Seems like it's either what I just mentioned, or F100 was the original name and it's been updated to FR100C.

I was only thinking to myself last week "that sexy man on UA-cam hasn't posted any videos recently". And now, here you are :)
I was thinking the same thing, so I had to create a new one 😂😂
He’s alive!
Only partially... we're moving again in a few more weeks, but the plan is to get things back up and running ASAP 😅

Cool video ! Could you suggest a very strong RGB 60-100W one that is compact size lightweight and app controlled ?
