      This used to be more of a norm. Idk if it's just America or the age of the internet, but people have been seeking out the opinions of experts for people who'll just back up what they already think despite the people affirming those beliefs having no better education or expertise than them.
      Perfect example... Mudfossil University. Not political, basically crackpot theory that is down right cartoonishness (worse than flat earth, we're talking dragon skeletons the size of northern Africa crazy). Besides the obvious lulcow factor, the true believers _know_ that they're correct. They have no need to seek further information. Any idea is it's own mini religion, anymore.

    One of the best ways to actually prevent grooming is to educate kids about sex. If they know that something happening to them is not okay and why, they're more likely to tell someone about it.
    If conservatives actually gave the slightest fuck about actually protecting children, they would want kids to be educated about sex.
    All of this "but they're too young to learn about that" just enables actual grooming and molestation.

      I grew up in a mostly sex positive household and found myself identifying many creepy men and the occasional woman as a girl and into my womanhood. I had the tools to know when adults were treating me in ways that were not okay or were edging in that direction. As a girl it mostly came out in my talking with my friends about which teachers were creepy af and avoiding them. Looking back, they were EXTREMELY creepy. I didn't start experimenting with my own sexuality until my late teens. It gave me the knowledge to protect myself, did not push me into having sex. I am eternally greatful

      Sex Ed needs to be done through schools because parents can’t be trusted to do it, properly or at all. Good sex education is an absolute blessing and we should want everyone to get the best.

    • @cctomcat321
      @cctomcat321 Рік тому +39

      They don't know how to communicate issues without drawing boundries... It's _really_ starting to be irritating that this notion of education is bad. We have 6th graders out here getting down like they're Jrs. They need to be equipped with the information whether parents like it, or not. _Especially,_ the concept of consent and not to be pressured into or do something you don't want to do for approval. Because it's also true that those 2 years of necessary lockdown mixed with other environmental conditions have led kids to becoming depressed younger and seeking validation where they can get it.

  • @aurizzistic
    @aurizzistic Рік тому +862

    I think the fact that basic sex ed stops and helps catch pedos is enough for me to let a little unrefined education go by. In second grade we had a basic sex ed. And about a week later, my friends dad was arrested. I didnt know for awhile later that his dad was molesting his sister, and there was ANOTHER kid who was being molested by a priest. They both kind of knew it was wrong but it was the first time they had an adult explain it to them. It is CRUCIAL.

    • @idontcare9041
      @idontcare9041 Рік тому +32

      Yeah. My first sexed class was in grade 2/3 too. I didn't know any victims at the time but later in life I hung out a lot with people struggling and there were a lot of people that had that happen to them... not understanding what's happening to them is extremely common. Sure it hurts, they don't want it but as a child you trust adults and the abusers are obviously extremely manipulative about it. If that shit is happening regularly especially you feel like it's normal and every other child experiences that too. It's incredibly fucked up
      On top of that I just wanna say... this topic is obviously heavy and I feel like people just hate to talk about it (understandably so) but as adults it's our responsibility to talk and prevent this. The amount of times I try to educate people on this and they're like "oh yes okay but let's not talk about this" is concerning to me. This is what... maybe not enables but certainly doesn't improve the situation

    Listen, when I was in elementary school and middle school - basically my whole life - I had to hear endlessly about my teachers’ relationships. They’d refer to their husband or wife, they’d have pictures of their spouse on their desk, and they’d talk about their kids and family. I was also CONSTANTLY told that I was going to be a “ladykiller” when I grew up, and told that I should want to grow up to have a wife and kids.
    Thing is, I’m hella gay and always was. Even then, as a kid, I felt uncomfortable when some old lady would pinch my cheeks and say I was going to make some woman very happy one day because I’m just so adorable or whatever. If these things are permitted, then gay teachers should also be allowed to talk about THEIR partners/spouses, and say that it’s perfectly fine to have two mommies and two daddies, etc.
    When I was in middle school and the other boys were starting to get crushes on the girls, my eye was drifting towards the boys. As time went on, I was teased and tormented relentlessly, being called gay, a f*ggot, a “fudge packer,” a girl, etc. on a daily basis. If only my teachers and the adults in my community had educated kids and taught them that gay people exist, and they’re valid, and they’re deserving of the same level of respect as anyone else, maybe things would have been different and I wouldn’t have had such a miserable, horrific childhood.
    This “groomer” and “indoctrination” narrative is just completely bogus. The people screeching about it are just upset that they may no longer be able to indoctrinate kids into THEIR lifestyles, and instead the kids - gasp - might be able to CHOOSE for themselves.
    Also, as a bit of a side note/rant - Hasan is totally correct about circumcision. That’s literally the only “genital mutilation” that’s happening on a major scale in this country and it’s done to literal newborn babies who aren’t even sentient yet. It was done to me and I’m still pissed about it to this day, at the age of 34, because like, dude, besides the little bit of extra girth that was chopped off before I even had the ability to form a single thought, practically all the nerve endings in a man’s penis are in the foreskin, so when you circumcise a baby, you’re literally removing the highest concentration of nerves in that particular body part and therefore permanently and drastically reducing their sensitivity for their entire life. Again, I’ll never stop being pissed about it. It’s fucked up. If conservatives are so worried about the “mutilation” of trans children (which isn’t even happening, mind you), then this is the cause they should take up. But they won’t, obviously.

    As a parent of a younger kid, it's REALLY not that hard to talk to kids. We are very body positive and use age appropriate education. She knows what 'parts' are called and that we have to keep our bodies to ourselves and specifically giving and needing privacy. There's a show she watches where one character goes by they/them and she had no questions about it because it took like one second to explain. Same show has two dads for another character and I love that it opens her up to the world in a totally wholesome way. There are VERY few things I am not able to age appropriately explain. The reason it's so hard for some people is because you have to not demonize gay/trans people and teach that it just exists. She hasn't encountered trans yet to question it beyond the one instance with pronouns in a kid's show but if she had, again, super easy. Some people are boys and some are girls and some people don't really match with either one or may be born as one and realize/decide later on they are another. They say 'okay' abd move on. They don't ask about genitals or sex, that's honestly just adults sexualizing children and it's disgusting.

    I’ve been an elementary school teacher for 20 years. Students at my school have “the talk” at school in 5th grade. Based on my experience, that is the appropriate age for those conversations to begin…some kids need it even earlier based on their own lived experiences. About 10 years ago, we caught two 5th-graders engaging in sex in the bathroom. Maybe 15 years a ago, two 4th-graders were having oral sex in the same location. I had one class of 3rd graders who were WAY too knowledgeable and interested in having sex with each other. It really just depends on the kids.

      I knew a similar story where they caught two grade-school kids engaging in sex in the school bathroom. Things like this reminds me of Carrie when the mom didn't tell her what a period was because she thought it was a sign that someone was a sin (as if women don't menstruate naturally). It's like who are you protecting lol?
      Someone also mentioned it can help against child predators because kids sometimes don't know what's happening or if something is inappropriate until later in life where they have to deal with all that hidden trauma they were probably unaware of.

    I think a large part of the confusion boils down to the fact that "sexuality" is just kind of a bad word for describing what's actually going on. Sexuality encompasses way more than just sex, and I think that confuses a lot of people. Hearing that "sexuality is being taught to kids" is concerning to people because it puts "sex" in the forefront, even though there's no actual sex involved.

    Imagine if it was an autonomic response to immediately contact someone with actual intelligence to approach a subject with research, critical thinking, history, facts and context whenever you get a righteous polarity extremist thought in your head... Super brave of xQc to actually do this for himself rather than getting on Twitter to demonstrate that he hasn't.

      I'm going to be a bit rough and confrontational but bear with me:
      "What is a good person?" I want you to answer this
      Is a good person when Felix goes on rant in front of 100k people?
      Is a good person when Trans viewers of Felix can't show their faces around their community getting threaths and insults daily, which you got the exemple right here in this comment section?
      Is a good person when you parrot the most horrible interptation of something?
      Is it a good person when that is call out to you multiple times yet you have done nothing in years (even if not directly, you can hire a team to deal with moderation) to try and approach it?
      Is a good person when you attempt to understand, yet when you are back alone with your audience you immediately backtrack and show compent and even malice against the person who tried to educate you (which didn't happen in this instance but it did happen in others, most recently the kick thing and before that the slots thing)?
      Is a good person because you've attempted to understand?
      Is a good person because you've inquired about the right to exist of other people?
      Why am I being this rough with you and anyone who might be reading? Maybe "A good person" is not a good way to describe anything or anyone and rather point out qualities, while doubting anyone who says "I'm a good person".

    X and Adin are such an interesting contrast. Both are terminally online and get all their info from Twitter. The difference is Adin was a child when he got famous and X was an adult. You can truly see it in how receptive he is to even the lightest level of critical thinking. Just more evidence that we shouldn’t give fame and widespread attention to children. Adin is clearly still a child, looking for validation and attention like a child.
